Pups, I have a girl who can be very aggresive. Discussing this with her breeder I found out that the dam had a severe toxic infection just before the litter was born. Contacting some of the other owners of pups from that litter it was discovered that they all had some issues. Discussion with the Vet. lends weight to this being an answer. My girl is not as bad as yours appears to be and as I am on my own, I coped with her and got her socialised to the point where I could show her and control her but she is always put in her crate when anyone comes and I've had to be very careful with her when at shows as she would attempt to lunge at anyone nearby. She is nearly 11 now and still the same. What I'm getting at is that there could be a mental problem there and with your family at risk it may be the best thing to consider PTS for both your sake and hers. My girl appears to be always on the lookout for something to vent her aggression on and while she is content in her own way, it's not the normal doggy happy. I've had dogs for 50 years and never had one like this. I'm certain that the infection of the dam has caused some brain issues. Just another slant on your problem which could be worth thinking about and help with any decision you have to make.

Yeah, tell me about the damage! Collie I had years ago was an angel in the house, lived and slept inside with access to the yard. When I went out he would be closed in the laundry. Anyway, freezing cold day and feeling sorry for him I shut him inside the kitchen where the combustion stove kept it warm. Came home a couple of hours later and he had completely stripped the lino from the whole floor down to the boards! Oh well, had been thinking of getting new floor covering in there - dogs, don't you luv 'em?

Just thought I'd throw this in to perhaps impress on you, Aroura, the seriousness of your dog's actions. There are quite severe penalties for this, including muzzling the dog at all times, having a completely enclosed area, wearing a special collar identify the dog as dangerous and the onus is on the owner to prove the dog is not dangerous. 33E. A dog may be declared to be a dangerous dog (1) A local government, or on behalf of the local government an authorised person or person specifically authorised by the local government for the purposes of this section either generally or in a particular case, may, by a notice in writing given in accordance with section 33F, declare a dog to be a dangerous dog if, in the opinion of the local government or that person (a) the dog has caused injury or damage by an attack on, or chasing, a person, animal or vehicle; This is part of the legislation, you can read the entire thing by doing a search "Dangerous Dog Legislation". There is a disturbing trend in Governments in Australia to implement BSL with quite a number of breeds being targeted in Queensland and this is spreading to other States. Responsible dog ownership is imperative to the future of many breeds.

Wow! Haven't been on here for ages, lots of things been happening but that's another story. So here I go opening my big mouth! Aroura - For heaven's sake keep Diego locked up - you're lucky the sheep owner didn't see him as he'd be a dead dog now, either shot by the farmer, perfectly legal, or collected by the Ranger. Living in sheep country I've seen what dogs do to sheep and they're not playing. Any dog which gets the taste of 'sheep harassing' is never to be trusted again so don't let him out of your sight - being a hound it's even worse. BTW - sheep do feel pain and any farmer who uses a shearer who cuts the sheep needs his head read - no professional shearer who puts 'huge cuts' on the animal would last two minutes. Sorry - JHMO.

I can't see anything 'nice' about the pug-pinscher, bl..dy awful and the feet on the one standing look a worry - one is very splayed - could be just the picture but....? Actually the breeds on there which I have some knowledge of (Aussie standards) look VERY poor quality, so not even breeding good purebreds! Sheesh, why cant people leave the breeds alone? :evil:

Raleigh's Medicated Ointment, well rubbed into the bare spot, seems to grow hair on billiard balls :lol: BUT perhaps you can't get over there, so another supposedly good one is Vitamen E cream rubbed in to the spot. Hi. HF! Will join you in that drink, been lurking but keeping my mouth (fingers!) closed. Just seems to be taking too long to get over losing Ben, the get up and go, seems to have got up and went :-? It's nearly next year, so maybe look out!

Having had a number of different breeds of show dogs I found that different shampoos suited different coat types and textures, some human, others dog shampoo. I had a dog with a skin condition a while ago and was using a medicated shampoo from the Vet. who was treating him. This particular brand went off the market and my Vet. said to use 'Selsun' human shampoo as it had exactly the same ingredients and did the same good job. I feel it depends on the dog, the coat, etc. as long as you know the makeup of the shampoo and get the good ones.

Well, this is a hard one! I have just my two older Miniature Pinschers at the moment and have been considering getting another dog to show BUT trying to decide is causing headaches. Will it be another Min Pin, Border Terrier, Collie, Afghan, Gordon Setter, Cocker Spaniel, all breeds I have owned and have beautiful memories of. Maybe a Shibu, Aussie Silky, Greyhound, Aussie Cattle Dog, Kelpie, German Shepherd, other delightful breeds I have had close contact with? Perhaps another breed which I have met casually but have left a lasting impression? I guess I just love them all and would have to find the pup which 'spoke' to me, regardless of breed. So sorry, no favorites!

They are also a recognised breed in Australia. We have some nice one too.

Six months ago today I had to send Ben to the Bridge. His last moments still haunt me. I miss him so much, he was more than a dog, he was my friend helping me through some rough times then I could do no more for him. Some mornings I wake and am sure for a few minutes he is sleeping on the bed still. Why do we have to go through this, breaking our hearts? Oh, Benny I miss you.

Ickle, I've been involved with the show world for nearly 50 years (ouch, that's a lot of years!) and to me, the saddest thing is to see breeds being ruined by this 'kennel blindness'. Be it dog, horse, chook or whatever showing there will always be those who just cant help being nasty, be it about others animals or exhibitors. Why they cant look beyond their own selfish thoughts and consider the welfare of their particular breed and use someone else's animal to improve their line or buy from a proved line, is beyond me. Two minority breeds I've been closely associated with have suffered the fate of losing their characteristics and lovely temperament through bad breeding by owners who wont go outside their own kennels and have flooded the market with these types. I haven't been in the show ring for about 2 years, have looked around for a pup of either of those breeds and honestly haven't seen one I would take home as a gift let alone pay the prices asked. Kennel blindness and stupidity go together.

While I totally agree with all the above answers, I would also be concerned about the enlarged vulva on this bitch. The Vet. has said that there is no problem but it does suggest some abnormality which may have no visible effect unless the bitch is mated. I would be having internal examinations and possibly xrays done before even thinking about pups. Anything out of the ordinary should always be viewed with suspicion.

Thanks, Mouse and Rowie, I've been trying to keep up with here, but seem to have a never ending stream of visitors staying, more next week then again the following week. How can I keep up with the important stuff (Dogo) when I have all these interruptions? Makes you wonder if there's a hidden agenda - there are so many other issues in the world today, why, suddenly it seems, is the emotional pet thing being pushed, not even the really important issues like cruelty, puppy mills, etc. just stupid things like breed specific legislation and now this. Who pays these people? Where do they get these ideas? What is going on?

A bit of a 'Catch 22' situation here! Compile a list of the breeds which have bitten/attacked and then, rather than lift any bans in place, there will be the inclination to ban any breed mentioned. The logic of banning an entire breed is non-existant and what about the cross-breeds ie: Corgi/Fox terrier say, do both breeds get banned? Who decides what the mix is? Some of the so-called experts cant identify a pure breed! It's a ridiculous situation and I cant see any solution as the education of people doesn't appear to be on the agenda, just let's eliminate the dogs :evil:

Aroura, this BSL is creeping in all over Aussie. Queensland councils have gone crazy with their 'banned', 'prohibited' and 'restricted' breeds. It's happening in other States as well. My Council have named 4 breeds which must be notified to them if you own or have them on your property. There are other Councils in Melbourne area which have banned some breeds already. Have a search around on your computer for" Breed Specific Legislation" and you will find it's going on all over the world. So many breeds being targetted and so much heartache for owners. There are many sites where you can get info. on how to reply/fight this awful vendetta.

Would love to see some. I have had Mins for some 30+years. They have all been show dogs. Have just two now, a red boy and a chocolate girl (that's her in the avatar). He's a sweetie and she's a devil, likes to be boss of everything.
