1. :o i don't know whether you should hug it or run from it, i do feel sorry for sam but he doesn't know he looks like that anyway. btw, here's a bigger photo - felicia
2. Thankyou :) i have tried homemade dog food, i used to use mince, vegetables, rice and gravy but she seems to have gone off it a bit.....i don't know why though because it smells great  it could have something to do with me adding some dog biscuits to the mix and hiding them amongst the other stuff thinking she wouldn't notice  felicia
3.
In the court room that little dog heard her masters voice when we brought her in for evidence and she strained hard to go to him. I mean she was really pulling on her lead and yipping and whining to get to him. He betrayed her but yet she still loved him. To me thats so very sad.
That's one thing i will never understand about dogs, they are so loyal that even after being treated so badly they want to be with their owner, it is very sad and i always cry when watching these shows. the aspca have a no kill policy, once a rotti bit a trainer twice and they still trained him up and got him a home :o they are very good and i love watching the bad guys get theirs but it always makes me sad how so many people can be so damn cruel. i wish we had an aspca in Australia.
oy. i can't even watch those shows any more.
i don't know why i watch them sometimes because i'm always crying my eye's out, i guess it's good to see people who abuse animals put away, it makes it easier to watch.
I'm surprised the original owner didn't sue for some of the monies made in commercials.......... Glad the poor little dog got a 2nd lease on life !!
They could have later i suppose when filming stopped but i think the woman got off lightly and wouldn't want to risk bringing attention to herself again. i'm just gald the dog is okay now :) felicia
4. Thanks kat! i'll try that because i don't like hand feeding her and as you said, giving her options won't help her to change, i guess iv'e just been a sucker for those big puppy dog eyes  she already always eats in the kitchen but i will start doing what you said and i'll let you all know what happens.
Just like a little kid who doesn't want to eat their veggies but wants a cookie.
That is so true! well, things are going to start changing round here lol. thanks again felicia
5. That's okay, if you bake any, let me know how they turn out :) felicia
6. Okay, i found a few, don't know how good they will be but maybe worth a try PUPCAKE FROSTING 8 oz. (fat free) cream cheese 1 teaspoon vanilla mix. frost each muffin. you can add carob chips. "buy unsweetened carob chips and melt in a double boiler or the microwave, you can then dip the biscuits straight into the melted carob (its easiest to coat only half the treat)and shake off excess carob (a knife works well to remove drips)and place on wax paper. you can let them sit overnight to harden, or stick them in the fridge (they wont be as glossy though). as far as yogurt coating, you can usually get yogurt drops (like chips, but bigger) at health food stores and sometimes even at petsmart-type stores. you can melt the drops the same way you do with the carob and let them harden" "MELTED CAROB CHIPS 1 pound, 8 ounces -- if using Carob Powder add to the MELTED Crisco, instead CRISCO - vegetable shortening 4 ounces LIGHT CORN SYRUP 2 ounces Melt chocolate and crisco separately, then blend together. Add corn syrup. Strain. Allow to cool to 98 degrees F (body temperature), then glaze. To glaze, place the dog biscuits on a cake rack placed over a parchment or waxed paper lined sheet pan, with rims. Let set." apparently you have to add corn syrup so it is more like a glaze and doesn't come off on your hands....i haven't tried these, i found them on a recipe site. here's a recipe for glazed dog biscuits. Glazed Dog Biscuits 1 envelope dry yeast 1/4 cup warm water 1 pinch sugar 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 2 cups whole wheat flour 2 cups cracked wheat; or 1 cups cornmeal & 1 cup rye flour 1/2 cup nonfat dry milk 4 teaspoons kelp powder 4 cups beef or chicken broth Glaze 1 large egg 2 tablespoon milk Place 2 oven racks in the upper & lower thirds of the oven. Preheat oven to 300. Sprinkle the dry yeast or crumble the compressed yeast over the water (110F if dry, 100F if compressed). Add the pinch of sugar & allow yeast to sit in a draft-free spot for 10-20 min. The mixture should be full of bubbles. If not, the yeast is too old to be useful. Stir well to dissolve the yeast. In a large bowl place all the dry ingredients & stir well to blend them. Add the yeast mixture & 3 c broth. Using your hands, in the bowl, mix to form the dough, adding more broth if needed to make the dough smooth & supple. Half a batch at a time, knead the dough briefly on a lightly floured counter. (Keep the 2nd batch of dough covered with a moist towel while shaping and cutting the first.) Roll out the dough into 18 x 13 x 1/4-inch rectangle. Cut into desired shapes using 3 1/2 inch bone cutter or 2 1/2 inch cookie cutter. Reroll the scraps. Repeat procedure with remaining dough. For an attractive shine - lightly beat together the egg and the milk. Brush the glaze on the cookies. Bake for 45 - 60 minutes or until brown & firm. For even baking, rotate the cookie sheets from top to bottom 3/4 of the way thru the baking period. Use a small, angled metal spatula to transfer the cookies to wire racks to cool completely. Store in an airtight container at room temp. -cracked wheat & kelp are available at most health food stores -Use 2 cups of bran cereal (not flakes) in place of the cracked wheat, if desired. If your dog is large, make larger cookies Allow the cookie sheets to cool completely before using for the next batch. Distribute cookies evenly around sheet. felicia
7. Maybe melt some carob down and add yoghurt to it or you could buy some white dog chocolate and add that melted to the yoghurt....iv'e never tried this btw it just sounded good  here is a link to a site with some good dog treat recipes. 8. Anassa has always been fussy, i know she isn't sick because she has regular checkups and has always been this way, besides, she will happily eat a steak if one is given to her. my problem is she won't eat tin dog food (can't blame her there) so i started making her food myself, mince, rice and veggies, at first she ate it but now i have problems getting her to eat it, the only way i can get her to eat dog biscuits is to put them in my hand, she will eat the wet food like this too but it;s so gross and i really don't like doing it, besides, she needs to eat out of her bowl. does anyone know why she does this and how it can be fixed? thanks frelicia
9. imajine when she see's the dog on television :) i'm just happy it all turned out okay, the dog was so cute. felicia
10. Thanks for making me feel better :) she has over 80 votes anyway so i don't have much chance  felicia
11. awww thankyou, i just felt aweful after i realised she was trying to get votes for her dog in the same competition. felicia
12.
Coal's the bestest friend I've ever had, I couldn't abandon him like that
ditto for anassa and me, she would stick with me no matter what, i could never leave her to fend for herself, it would break my heart  felicia
13. i just realised that i'm wanting you to vote for anassa in a competition that one of the members here is already getting votes for, i didn't realise sorry. felicia
14. i was watching Miami animal precinct last week and they got a call about a dog being abandoned, when they confronted the women she said yes she did abandon the dog, it had been making a mess of her verandah and she was sick of the thing. she had shoved it in the boot of her car and dumped it but was spotted putting it in her car by a couple of kids who reported her. when the officer told her that in America dogs are treated almost like people she gave him a discusted look and said, 'it's only a dog, it's not like it's my daughter or something' the officer told her it was just like dumping her daughter in the middle of no-where but this women had no love for animals at all, they were nothing to her. The officer asked her to drive to the spot where she dumped the dog so they could follow her and try to find it, that was a drama for her too because she just went for a drive and couldn't be bothered doing it again, luckily they convinced her and they left to find the dog. They came to a deserted factory aria and found the dog wandering on the side of the road with about four meters of rope still around it's neck, it was so badly matted that it had trouble walking and when it saw the woman it tried to run up to her but she pushed it away like it had some sort of disease, i can not believe how cold this woman was :( and the look on the dogs face, all it wanted was to be loved and this is how it was treated   it made me so mad that someone could behave this way, i swear, she wouldn't have wanted me to be there because there would have been hell to pay :evilbat: in the end, they took the dog back to their base and got it neutered, clipped, washed and vaccinated, it did get a home but the couple couldn't keep it because the man was severly allergic, after they brought it back it got another home with a very rich couple, these guys had a yaght, a mansion and you could tell they loved the dog sooo much, the couple that first adopted the dog felt bad and in return for not being able to keep it put it in comercials for pet products so now the dog not only has a great home but is a star too, not a bad ending for a dog treated so badly :) just had to share felicia
15. i was very annoyed but every time i mention something i come off as overprotective or a worrier  even though i think they need to be more careful with max, he is theirs so i keep quiet, i would just like the same courtesy with nassa. it was getting to the stage where i thought i was too over protective and was thinking i should just let her off, it's hard out here because most people just have working dogs who aren't considered anything special so it's hard to find people who understand how i feel. i'm so glad i found this place, you guys are great. felicia
16. Thankyou, iv'e decided i won't be letting her off because of the risk of her running off with Max when he chases a roo, Max has already been hurt by one before yet they still let him off the lead  i just get told allll the time that i need to give nass freedom....my friends boyfriend says they will learn from their mistakes but out here where there is nothing around i'm just not prepared to risk her running away. they go on about it all the time, then they will stop for a while but the subject always comes up again somehow and it just gets annoying, Max returns home when he runs away and he has run away heaps of times but nass has never experienced that, if she loses max while they have run off together i don't know if she would come home or keep going and possibly get lost in the middle of no-where, there is no water out here and it gets very hot, i don't think she'd last very long. anassa is half pointer and half wolfhound, she isn't a mix of heaps of breeds but only two so the pointer instinct to roam is very strong in her, when i take her for a walk her nose is on the ground the whole time and shee is always trying to pull me off after some scent or another. once my friend wasn't very careful and nass got out, she started sniffing straight away and wouldn't come to anyone, we had to chase her down and lure her over with treats. my friend has let nass out a few timews while we are visiting them even though iv'e told them not to do it and every time nass just runs off, it annoys me a lot actually, not just the fact that she doesn't come back but i expect my friends to respect the fact that i don't want nass roaming, once they looked after her for a week and just let her off, they weren't even watching her at the time, luckily she didn't go anywhere. sorry, this has been annoying me for a while now, i thought i was being overprotective though....just needed to vent. felicia
17. when anassa is just with my husband or i she will pretty much always come but as soon as her friend max is around she totally ignors me, she will also go to my friend who owns max and her boyfriend when we are all together but not my husband or i, why does she do this? iv'e tried calling her heaps but she completely ignors me and runs the other way, once when she did this on the beach my friend said 'she won't come to you because you will keep her there' but i don't do this all the time, only when i need to. my friend also lets her dog off the lead all the time, even on walks down the street, he's famous for chasing kangaroos and can be gone for a day at a time when this happens, she wants me to let nass off too but nass doesn't even come when she's called yet and i worry what will happen if max chases a roo, i know nass will follow him. i'm also having trouble getting her to heel and have no idea whatsoever on how to teach her to do this... any help will be greatly appreciated. felicia
18. i really want to take her with me and we are leaving tonight so i don't really have enough time for crate training, there aren't any shops that sell them here either, there's only a local deli and a pub.... we have had a talk about it and might just stay somewhere else yet, it will save a lot of hasstle. thankyou all for your help :) i appreciate it. felicia. PS. unfortionately, the plants are only chilli and basil etc
19. i don't know if i could put nass in a cage, she's never been in one and she's nearly six months old, i don't think that would make a difference with these people anyway but thankyou for the suggestion. i'm sure she will be okay outside, i guess i just get worried she will destroy potplants etc, then she won't be popular at all :( felicia
20. The lump is a big cyst that is slowly going down but i like to keep an eye on her with dogs i don't know just in case. i don't even know what a crate is? also, the SIL has a lot of potplants, something i don't have at my place unless they are out of reach because nassa destroys them, i can watch her during the day but at night i can't , this is another reeason i want her in :( i know the SIL will have a fit if she wakes up to see all her potplants destroyed... felicia
21. tonight we leaving to stay with family who live eight hours away, the first night we are staying with a friend but the night after we are staying with my husbands sister, she has an outdoor only dog and while i don't agree with that i leave it alone so i don't cause rifts in the family. this time we visit i will have anassa who always sleeps in at night yet she won't be allowed to sleep inside at the sisters even for one night because she's 'just a dog' the sisters dog will be outside with her but i know nassa will cry and make a lot of noise, she plays very very rough with her friend max and solar isn't used to that, i just have an aweful feeling she's going to make heaps of noise and then the sister is going to get upset and then i'm going to get upset with her for yelling at nassa. what should i do? am i being unreasonable for wanting her inside at someone elses house? nassa also has a lump on her side at the moment and i like to supervise her with other dogs that i don't know. thanks felicia
22. we usually get our rawhide from a couple who make it themselves for their dogs, they make homemade dog treats like kangaroo, donkey, beef and camel jerkey, they also make awesome dog biscuits and dried liver very cheap, nassa absolutely loves the jerky and dried liver :D i just got a food dehydrator so i'm thinking of making some dried liver and jerky for her myself, should be able to get some roo meat soon, does anyone know the best way to flavour jerky for dogs and has anyone ever done this themselves? i'm going to ask how they treat the rawhide next time i see them. felicia
23.
I would, with a baseball bat and let him try and do something like that with my dog!
i second that  felicia
24. lol that was a silly question, i'll try that and see how it goes :) thanks felicia
25. she's just fed on the ground...what is an elevated feeder? thanks felicia
