1. Oh I just HAD to read this thread, didn't I???....now I'm ITCHY! <shudder>.....we lived in Texas for a year when hubby was in the military, and boy do they have some big nasty looking spiders there.......AND scorpions....ewwww (no offense Aroura  ). Here in FL, the bugs are BIG but relatively harmless (except the disease infested mosquitos ).. :o ..oh but speaking of gross, we DO have palmetto bugs (picture very large FLYING cockroach) some of those are big enough to throw a saddle on <itch itch...scratch scratch> (they need to add an "itchy emoticon" lol
2. Hey! welcome to the forum :D I don't have any experience with shar peis (big help I am huh? ) BUT my neighbor has one and it seems like a sweet dog.....tends to be a little dog aggressive though (I don't know if this is typical of the breed??). Maybe it just wasn't socialized properly like Bullboxers' aunt's dog.... So I'm curious....does DSS get his Boxer first ,or do you get your Shar Pei? Or are you getting them at the same time? (picturing a boxer puppy and a shar pei puppy together...AWWWW!) uh oh, I'm feeling a strong urge to go puppy shopping...eeeek!

lol...ok ok...point taken....I'm officially shutting up now
4. Yep...sad isn't it??....buying a dog is becoming a lot like ordering a pizza....you pick the ingredients, they "make" you the "perfect" dog  The saddest thing about it is some of these "breeders" are charging 5 or 6 hundred dollars for these mixes, while there are thousands of these same mixed breeds (puppies AND adults) put to sleep every day in shelters that would cost only a FRACTION of that to take home. :(

Boerboels

Ooooooh! Avalonia those pups ARE gorgeous! I'm like Horsefeathers...I had never heard of the Boerboel before this forum....are there no breeders over here?? If there aren't its probably a GOOD thing, because I'd have to have one.....and that would mean I'd probably have to toss out my sofa to make room...lol....hmmmm, or maybe just toss hubby out instead (ooops ,did I say that out loud???? ) LOL,Horsefeathers...I know ALL about the accent thing....try saying Boerboel with a Canadian/Texas/Floridian accent....eeeek!

Fila Brasiliero

Wow!....is there a full moon this week???,or is there just a surplus of 13 and 14 year olds out there that think having a "really FIERCE attack dog" is the answer to all their problems???(makes ya wonder if this is a learned behavior) :o This thread is giving me a bad case of Deja Vu
7. Thanks newfiemom! I just checked out the link you sent me and there are actually 6 or 7 stores within 10 miles of me that carry OMH products,so I'm in luck :D
8. :o Thanks for the info,Horsefeathers! I will definately look into making the switch....now I just have to find a place that carries Wellness...
9. Aroura, Goldfish huh?....be afraid...be VERY afraid  LOL
10. Loki is on Nutro Natural Choice Lg Breed Adult dry...(although I am considering switching to OMH Wellness). I suppliment him with brown rice, chicken and cottage cheese....oh and treats of course...he LOVES biscuits...and liver brownies :D
11. EXCERPTS FROM A CAT'S DIARY DAY 752 - My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while I am forced to eat dry cereal. The only thing that keeps me going is the hope of escape, and the mild satisfaction I get from ruining the occasional piece of furniture. Tomorrow I may eat another houseplant. DAY 761 - Today my attempt to kill my captors by weaving around their feet while they were walking almost succeeded, must try this at the top of the stairs. In an attempt to disgust and repulse these vile oppressors, I once again induced myself to vomit on their favorite chair... must try this on their bed. DAY 765 - Decapitated a mouse and brought them the headless body, in attempt to make them aware of what I am capable of, and to try to strike fear into their hearts. They only cooed and condescended about what a good little cat I was...Hmmm. Not working according to plan. DAY 768 - I am finally aware of how sadistic they are. For no good reason I was chosen for the water torture. This time however it included a burning foamy chemical called "shampoo." What sick minds could invent such a liquid. My only consolation is the piece of thumb still stuck between my teeth. DAY 771 - There was some sort of gathering of their accomplices. I was placed in solitary throughout the event. However, I could hear the noise and smell the foul odor of the glass tubes they call "beer.." More importantly I overheard that my confinement was due to MY power of "allergies." Must learn what this is and how to use it to my advantage. DAY 774 - I am convinced the other captives are flunkies and maybe snitches. The dog is routinely released and seems more than happy to return. He is obviously a half-wit. The bird on the other hand has got to be an informant, and speaks with them regularly. I am certain he reports my every move. Due to his current placement in the metal room his safety is assured. But I can wait, it is only a matter of time... ___
12. Ignore Pitfighter Giz,he's just trying to get a rise out of everyone and if you give him what he wants he's liable to stick around
13. LOL,deep.....well you DO live on the coast...there MUST be an uninhabited island around there SOMEWHERE that you could claim for your "doggy commune"
14. Boxerrescue.com is actually the website for Northeastern Boxer Rescue ( I think they only adopt dogs out to people in the New England States.) I adopted Loki through Florida Boxer Rescue ( http://www.flbr.org ) If you're interested in a rescue boxer I'm sure there must be a boxer rescue in the Seattle area. Here is a list of Washington contacts you might want to try....I'm not sure how current they are though... -Pacific Northwest Boxer Club 13315 32nd Ave. South Tukwila WA 98168 -Jose & Teri Barreras, [email protected] 206-242-5854 -Spokane Boxer Club 2330 S. 15. My Boxer boy,Loki (pic at left) was a rescue. He has become such a HUGE part of our family that I don't know what we ever did without him. Since we adopted him from a Boxer Rescue Organization (who got him from a kill shelter), I know nothing about his history or what his previous owners were like...apparently they never came looking for him and frankly, their loss was DEFINATELY my gain :D He is SUCH a great dog....typical lovebug Boxer. I would never hesitate to adopt a rescue again!
16. oh I LOVE Goldens!!!...I have an uncle in Canada who breeds and shows them...they are SO smart! When I was a little girl I used to spend as much time as possible at the kennels helping out...in return my uncle used to let me tag along when he was showing his dogs or doing obedience demonstrations. I SO wanted a Golden when I was growing up. THEN I met my sister's Boxers and the rest is history...LOL...My boxer boy is THE best dog you could ask for...but I still would love to have a Golden someday.....and maybe a Dobe...ooooh and a pug....hmmmm...I think I need to move to a farm
17. I didn't get to watch either Giz...I don't get that channel...I checked the MSNBC website and they don't post transcripts either :(
18. bk...I tried the link to your pics but I kept getting an error message :( ....can someone else try?...maybe its just me
19. My Boxer LOVES kids (most boxers do...it's one of the things the breed is famous for). He will do ANYTHING for my 4 year old son.....when we play ball, I have to practically tackle the dog and wrestle the tennis ball from his jaws...all my son has to do is say "Loki drop it!" and Loki sits and drops the ball at his feet.
20. bk...welcome welcome welcome!!! ....your dog sounds so cool :D You'll have to add a pic to your profile or post a pic when you get a chance,so we can see him :D

can boxer's swim?

That makes sense guest.....actually now that I think of it my mom's pekingese used to sink like a rock when he tried to swim.......
22. Oooooh Hazel!...We really need to stop talking about birds now!!! I'm getting all fired up to go buy another one I realllly want a Mollucan ...lol..then maybe the COMBINED racket between the "Too and Macaw would SCARE the kids away  I agree with you 100% about the large parrots not being good first birds....they are a LOT for a beginner bird enthusiast a Tiel would be a GREAT first bird (why didn't I think of that???) Most people are unaware as to just how smart and entertaining they actually ARE.....not to mention cuddly. They act like a large parrot trapped in a small bird's body...lol Hmmmm...from what I've HEARD about Lories, they are somewhat uhhhh "messier" than most other birds their size (due to their almost exclusive liquid diet)....they apparently have the ability to "projectile poop" (ewwww). But they ARE very pretty......

can boxer's swim?
i'm looking into getting a boxer...but...i'm a swimmer & want to know...can boxer's swim?
if they really HAVE to  lol actually it depends on the dog.....like K pointed out, I'm sure all dogs CAN swim, but there are some boxers that absolutely HATE the water (sheesh...MY boxer tries to avoid PUDDLES and dodge rain drops....makes walking in the rain VERY interesting). Boxers seem to be almost cat-like when it comes to water (cringing and shaking their paws when they get wet)....then there are others I've seen that LOVE to play in the water (though I'm still not sure how much they actually like SWIMMING)....maybe if you raised one around water....??
Hey I will be down your way later on today... I am heading down to Palm Harbor tonight after work. And we are going to a barbeque in Tarpon Springs tomorrow.
Ooops, I missed this post......Are you bringing your dogs with you to Tarpon Springs tomorrow??...It seems to me there's a dog beach out that way (honeymoon island) I THINK its still being used as a dog park anyway....check it out if you get a chance....your dogs might enjoy the beach :D
25.
Thank you Smooshie. I will look into the bird fairs. As for the dogs being bird aggressive, Sasha has absolutley NO prey drive. She ignores everything. Except mosquitos. She likes to try and eat them... Too funny to watch. I have seen her walk right by a cat without even noticing it. She won't even look at it... It is strange. Felony is still a puppy. I would always keep them seperated when not under strict supervision. Is it ok to leave them outside, say on a screened porch all day? Even in Florida? Is it too hot for them? And does it get too cold in the winter. Would it be better to keep it inside? It is going to be a while as I need to wait until I buy a house... But I am interested in knowing. Thanks
LOL...Loki strikes fear into the hearts of all geckos  (Of course he NEVER catches them, but I've seen him practically climb a TREE while chasing one...WAY too funny to watch...oh and FROGS...he hops along behind them and tries to grab them......silly dog....other than that, he's pretty easy going too. He used to like to chase wild birds, but ever since he stopped stalking my parrot, he seems to have no interest in the wild birds either (yay!) My Macaw actually prefers to be outside....we keep her on our screened porch. But we also have a cage in the house and a bird stand for times when she's inside. Parrots are very social...in the wild they live in flocks so they see their human family as their "flock" (not unlike the "pack" theory with dogs). They like to be in the middle of all the activity, and don't do well if they're confined to their cages,or left alone all the time. Even when Indie is outside she likes to keep an eye on whats going on IN the house thru the sliding glass door. Birds can be kept outside in FL as long as they are NOT in direct sunlight, or exposed to the elements (rain, wind ,etc)and you need to be sure nothing can get at them (neighborhood cats, etc),and during the hottest part of the day they should be spritzed with water so they can cool off. India actually LOVES to get in the shower with me...lol. The only times I've had to move India inside because of cold is when there's a bad tropical storm or when the temperature drops in December and January....usually as soon as it starts to drop down into the low 50's,I bring her in or at LEAST rig up a heat lamp and put a blanket over her cage....drafts can be very dangerous to birds.
