Hi I'm a dog walker and all of the dogs I take out have at least a 30 min walk morning and evening plus an hour with me in the middle of the day. All dogs should get this amount of excersise unless they suffer from any health problems and also puppies up until about a year old don't need as much as a fully grown dog, that allows thier muscles, joints and lungs to develope properly. If you do take your dog running do it gradually because if he's only been getting 10 to 15 minutes a day it could be too much for him. All dogs should get at least an hour a day. What sort of dog is he and how old? hope I've been some help. :)

Our old dog used to do this when she was exited like when we came home after work, the more fuss we made of her the more she would do it! But I should get it checked out anyway just to be on the safe side. We did get Lucy checked and the vet said she was fine.

You can't starve a puppy of that age for a few days :roll: What awful advice that vet gave you especially if it has blood in it's stool. It should be on medication and a special diet. I would take the puppy to another vet PRONTO

Our youngest lab got into the pond and ate a goldfish, we know because she threw it up the next day :haha:

Our two babies are getting spayed too on Tuesday, one is 9 months & the other 14 months, it's always worrying when they have thier first anesthetic, keep your fingers crossed for them please :smilecolros:

My husband and I stopped at a pub while on holiday last year and there were two border terriers in the bar. We were admiring them and making a fuss of them while we ate our food, the owner came over and said not to feed them anything which we wouldn't anyway, he then went on to say they only got fed 3 times a week because they were working dogs (used to catch rats) and that they wouldn't work unless they were hungry. I told him I didn't think that was right and considered it cruel, but he said most working dogs were treated like that, I've never heard of that before, has anyone else? :roll:

I was replying to Hobbit who said that arsenic is poisoness, of cause it is if given in doses big enough where the body cannot tolerate it. homeopathic medicine is very complicated, I just couldn't find time to explain it on here but there are books and sites on it which explain it all. I use homeopathic medicine a lot on my dogs it is completely safe and nearly always works. I would like to hear what others think :P

Arsenic Alb is a homeopathic treatment for upset tummies in dogs and humans, I have used it on my dogs recently. It's not toxic, completely safe in fact, look it up in a homeopathic book or alternative medicine site. You have to understand about how it works before you comment on it. I hope you haven't scared people off of using it. The homeopathic vet in our town prescribes it all the time. I'm sure he wouldn't want to kill off all our dogs! I'd like to hear your comments on thi :roll:

The best thing to do is to get her to go for an allergy test. Westies are very prone to skin problems. Allthe baths and antibiotics in the world wont cure the problem,they will ease it for a while maybe but you need to know what's causing it. My little Daisy (a Westie) had very bad skin problems and was put on antibiotics etc for a long time until we got a second opinion from another vet and had allergy tests done on her ,it turned out it was something inher food she was allergic to so a change of diet and no more excema. It's a bit expensive (the test) but saves a lot of money in the long run. Skin problems can be very painful and can cause a lot of stress for the dog. Keep us informed. good luck :P

daisymom, I asked the dog owner about the homeopathic treatment that was given to her dog with the bowel problems, she said the dog was put on arsenic alb until the trouble had cleared up and then put on a special diet with no red meat for about 2 months and then gradually back to her normal diet and she's okay now. Apparently it was colitis. Her own vet just kept on giving her anti inflamitory injections with no proper examination, the homeopathic vet was more thorough going into her general health and diet etc. She now goes to the homeopathic vet every time the dog needs any treatment for any ailment and is very pleased with the way he cures her dogs. Also with homeopathic medicine there are no side effects and it is completely safe. Anyway enough of me droning on :roll: I'm really pleased Daisy is on the mend :beerchug: Hopefully it won't return :D

Good luck to you and daisy. Going to see a holistic vet sounds good. I know a couple of dog owners who swear by them. In fact one dog the vet gave up on (it had bowel problems) a holistic vet cured it completely so go for it :D This dog had the problem for 4 years) :x

You've got to get her to a vet, I'm sure if you told the vet your financal situation he would let you pay by installments. Problems like this can lead to the dog dying if not treated, Daisy is also probably in a lot of pain too but she can't tell you. If your husband was ill would you say"He's only a human" so it does't matter! I don't think so! Get her to the vet quickly before she suffers any more or worse, she dies. :(

I'm a dog walker and all this peeing ritual makes me laugh :lol: I sometimes take 4 dogs out together, when the first dog has a pee the other 3 dogs wait and one by one they they take it in turn to pee over the first dogs pee then the first dog goes and pees over the lot! by the way the first dog is a male and the other 3 are females, when they do this ritual the females cock thier legs as well :P the rest of the walk they just pee as normal with the females squatting not cocking their legs.I think it's all to do with marking their territory. What do others think? :roll:

I don't know if this helps but every time our dogs have had a marrow bone they tend to get constipated :oops: I normally take the bone from them after about 20 mins so they dont get any splinters. :roll:

I always take a carrier bag with me too :lol:
