1. Ok now you all got me started....I had to out put my old "Cream of Clapton" CD and listen to Layla!!! I hope you're all happy now!! LOL STILL my favorite song!!! :D I play the piano, and worked hard to learn this bit!! If you can, listen to the original version. The piano solo is phenomenal, and EC is playing the guitar alongside, and it's really good. At the end, he does the bird call, with the guitar only, no synethisers or special effects, only real talent.
2. For those umfamiliar with it - Layla is on an album by a short-lived group called Derek and the Domino's (led by Eric Clapton) called "Layla and other Love Songs. " There was a re-release of it by EC as "unplugged" (acoustic only) but the original song is steel Fender guitar, rock at it's finest, and followed by a piano solo as long as the orignal steel guitar song. THAT is the version I consider my favorite song. It's worth hearing, if only for the piano solo.... :D EC is known as one of the first to make a guitar "talk" - the bird call you hear at the end of the original was done by his expertise at playing, with no synthesizers involved....
3. Good Lord!!! WHERE HAVE I BEEN????? I always just assumed that heartworm was a world-wide thing. I never realized it was only in the states.....
4. Or did you mean you dont have Revolution Heartworm medicine there? sorry...
5. You dont have heartworm in the UK? Why? No mosquito's or none carrying the heartworm disease? Sorry, I've never been there.....
6. I will take that as a good sign - "Layla" is my favorite song in the whole world! Eric Clapton Rocks!! LOL
7. well, Alex came with his name ( he has gone to the Bridge now) Freebee was advertised as a "purebred German Shepherd" (she's a lab/ GSP mix for cryin'out loud!!) and when she was picked up the lady wanted $20.00 for her (she was actually an accident, the whole litter was) When it got pointed out to her that GSD's dont have floppy ears she gave us the dog for free. The first name that came to mind was "Freebie", but we changed it to "Freebee" cuz I like that better. My cat is now called PushyCat, because he IS!!! (irritable, ill-tempered demanding thing that he is, but I really love him to pieces) but his original name was "Saavik" (from Star Trek). However he wouldnt answer to it (because he is a MALE and Saavik is a female name, and the lady that gave him to us as a kitten insisted he was a female) so we changed his name to PushyCat and he is very content with that. We just call him Pushy, or Push.... I read somewhere that cats respond better to names that end with the "EE" sound, soumething to do with their hearing....
8. I had never heard of BC's being aggressive, but the female in the yard next door is. I originally thought it was the APBT that was making all the noise (shame on me, I know...) but it wasnt - it was the BC that Freebee was reacting badly to. She is not aggressive to people though. Sometimes it is just the perosnality of the dog I think....like people. They dont all fit breed standards, which is why I normally dont suggest looking to breed standards to pick out a dog. You need to meet the dog, watch it's reactions, and make sure it is neither the "runt of the litter" (the one that cow-tows to everyone else) or the "top dog" unless you are prepared to do some serious dominance training. Somewhere middle of the road is best.... Good Luck
9. No, I use Heartguard - have not heard of Revolution, but THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH FOR POSTING THAT!! With all the stress involved losing Alex, I am 3 days behind on Freebee's heartworm pill! Thank you!!
10. :o I am VERY VERY sorry Hazel, for you and your pup. I am not mad at you, I just wish it could have turned out better for everyone. I adopted a shelter dog that was aggessive, with all the good intentions in the world, but he couldnt be trained or loved out of it. It was a neurological thing, they thought. So I know how you feel and I am very sorry this happened. Sometimes there is nothing you can do with a problem dog (or child, for that matter). You did your best, you invested the time and training, and it didnt work out. Maybe next time, it will. A lab is a good idea. They are not NORMALLY aggressive (you know how that goes, we've talked about it), so that may be a good choice for right now. Best of luck to you and let me know how you get on! Katy
11. I did the bleach soak in the areas he dug...and I sent AN EMAIL TO THE FUNGISIDE CO. Havent heard back yet. things are weird here. She is showing dog aggression to the neighbors BC, the neighbor wont let them out together. I dont understand it, she was never dog aggressive before... I am thinking sadly that if this keeps up, she may need to be an "only child", which is sad....she got along so well with Alex... :(

Funny commercial

I am just cracking up...I just saw a commercial (for a car) where there is a rottie chasing a smaller dog and barking, continusly. They go around corners, down alleys, around bends, and there is this guy in a car following them and trying to cut them off...Eventually the guy in the car finds a place where he can cut them off, he puts the passenger window down, and the little dog jumps in the car thru the window...and the guy says "I TOLD you she had a boyfriend!!!! " I cant stop laughing.... :D :D
13. Here is a site that lists holistic vets by state. You might get lucky and find one near you. http://www.alternativesforanimals.com/viewvets.html good luck!! :D
14. Take him to see a holistic vet. There are natural herbal remedies you can get for seperation anxiety, not exactly doggie-downers, but have a calming affect on them. As far as stealing food, go with the fact that if they can get it they will. You could try the mousetrap under a bunch of newspapers - the scare usually stops them. you might even find one of those vets on a website. Good luck!
15. sorry - I went totally "work technical".... to explain it to the non-tech people, it's the 10 lbs of potato's in the 5 lb bag... There is more usage on the line than the line can handle. These are multi-user "lines", but they are limited as to how many people can use them at the same time. It's called "bandwidth" and it decides how much traffic can pass at any one time. Think of it like the expressway into the city when a major popular band is appearing - more cars than usual, everything slows down...if you look at it in the respect that there is SOOOO much traffic that NO ONE is moving, it makes more sense. That's exactly what this virus does - It pollutes the entire "bandwidth" with false "cars" and makes the server thinks that it is overloaded with traffic. When it gets to the point where it can no longer "direct traffic" ( a servers main job) it shuts down. Kinda like an accident on the way to see the band. Everything kinda grinds to a halt.... ok I'm a techno-geek....so sue me!! I still love dogs!!! :D
16. No one ever does, because we think water that we can drink is safe for dogs, too. But it's not safe, at high lead and hard water levels, for US either. We tend to absorb things slower than dogs do. So long after the dog has died we may exhibit the first symptoms... Let us know how she does on the filtered and bottled water, if it makes an improvement. I decided to do it because I spoil my dogs, so if I was drinking filtered water than they would too. It made a remarkable difference in stool quality. :D p.s. I am not suggesting giving her bottled water every day, unless you're rich - lol - but you can put a faucet filter on the sink that will take care of the majority of "bad stuff" in the water.
17. DEFINITELY visit the shelter. Beagles are small, cute and have short hair, but they bay constantly and in a city environment they will annoy your neighbors. They also need LOTS of excercise, and they dig.... how small is small? like poundage? lab mixes will often have the short hair (they still shed though) but they can run 70 lbs or more...maybe a Jack Russell Terrier mix would work, but they tend to be diggers too.... Go see the dogs (and the people) at the shelter. They should be able to match you up with the right dog, and you will be saving a life that desperatley needs saving! Good luck to you! :D
18. Neither of my dogs could eat either Iams or Eukanuba....There may be something in the food that is disagreeing with her, but it could also be the water. Is your water in your area "hard"? (full of minerals and calcium and stuff?) I found a remarkable change in my dogs when I had a water filter installed. I would try a different food first, and then I would look into the water. There are kits you can get for testing for water quality, and they're not real expensive.
19. yea, it is circle of life, but you might want to evict the rabbits (sometimes animal control will come get them) It is true that once they taste blood, they will continue to "hunt"....natural instincts are coming to the fore, but as was mentioned they dont have all the natural defenses that wild animals have against virus', worms, etc.... Alex's favorite target was squirrels....
20. Good Lord! I'll have to watch my step - I give friendly "woofs" to dogs that are waiting in cars for their owners to come out of the store..... Cops and Ego; bad combination....besides, they're not supposed to let their dogs threaten and bark at people, even inside the car. A wll trained police dog will lay down and shut up when sitting in the car. :drinking: .
21. That could be the virus K - it gets into the IP network and "expands" to the point that it starts sucking up bandwidth. Once all the bandwidth is used up the server crashes. It's taking ordinary usage and doubling it and tripling it, so the server thinks there are 40 users when there are really only 4. Someone stupid moron with nothing better to do decided to create a self-replicating virus, let it loose in email, and is probably now laughing at all the companies (like mine) that crashed because of it. Tell the big mod that it's called "SQL SLammer" and to try to have the IT people block it out of the firewall.
22. ****DANGER WILL ROBINSON**** There is a nasty virus going around that took our entire computer room at work down today and crashed all the servers. Dont open ANY email from anyone you dont personally know. Delete it and delete it out of your deleted immediately. Dogo may have been hit with some of it's weirdness yesterday. (The quote is from "Lost In Space", and old Sci-Fi show, old enough to be in black and white, for those not familiar with Will Robinson)
23. I'm everybody's mom..... I have Freebee, Pushycat, (dog and cat), Kyle (sometimes human) and of course, Alex, who is now gone. Kyle's friends call me mom, and I always referred to the dogs and cat as my "kids" (which annoys Kyle to no end - lol ) when/if I ever get my new dog, I'll be his/her mom too, no matter what Kyle says!!! :D
24. You did the right thing. You may be saving the dog's life
25. I have an account there (I'm the worst of bookworms too) and if you want I can order it and have it shipped to you. You can PM me your address if you want to do that. :D
