Guest Anonymous Posted September 21, 2003 Posted September 21, 2003 I need some help here. Rosie is a female spayed yellow lab. She's just over a year old. For the last few months, she keeps itching her lips and eyes, rubbing her head on the floor and furniture, etc. She just digs and digs at her mouth. There is no redness or rash. She just can't stop itching. I have taken her to the vet several times and tried steriods and benedryl in case there are allergies. No luck. Tried switching dog food and that didn't work either. Teeth are fine. Just last night, while snuggling in bed with her, I noticed a pronounced smell coming from her female area. Kind of fishy... She seems to lick that area pretty frequently. This may be totally off base, but I was wondering if female dogs can get yeast infections, and if so, if they lick that area, is it possible that their mouth would also itch? How about eyes? She licks down there, then rubs her mouth against her paws and then paws to her eyes... My husband says that she's just a dumb dog and can't figure out how to use her back leg to scratch her face. I disagree. HELP?? SUGGESTIONS??? IDEAS??? Quote
imported_Cassie Posted September 22, 2003 Posted September 22, 2003 Hey K & Rosie's Mom I have linked an older article for Rosies Mom which K had posted a while back about yeast over growths... http://forum.dogomania.com/viewtopic.php?t=6674 Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted September 22, 2003 Posted September 22, 2003 Just wanted to say thanks for the replies! It sure sounds like a yeast infection could be the problem. I will try the suggestions on the food and the enzymes. And Rosie thanks you too! Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted September 22, 2003 Posted September 22, 2003 You guys are way too nice!!! :D Question on the food... Any particular brand that you recommend? I looked up a couple and one was 33#s for $34.00, another was 18#s for $34.00. They were both the "natural" food. The more expensive one recommended a cleansing diet for about 10-14 days first consisting of raw meat, yogurt, and veggies. (They said to skip the oatmeal/rice because of the allergies and just up the veggies.) I'm one of those souls that just goes and buys the Purina Dog Food bag at the grocery store and being a junk food junkie at heart, this is a mind-bender! Suggestions? Which way should I proceed? And THANKS! again. Quote
