Hey Marble - I think we made a little bit of progress

Since we had a break in the rain, I just took Indy out for a quick walk.

We went past a house that has a golden retriever in their fenced in front yard - however it's not a solid fence so the dogs can see each other.

When we were about 30 metres away the golden started barking and running up to the fence. Indy started to strain on the leash but obviously didn't think we were close enough to warrant his normal lunging and crazy behaviour just yet. So at this stage I told him to sit and didn't move again till he was sitting calmly looking at me. We then took about another 2 steps before he started to pull again so again we stopped and I told him to sit. It took us about 5 minutes to cover 10 meters as I made him stop and sit as soon as he started to strain towards the other dog. By the time we were directly in front of the yard with the dog he was very good (I had made him stop and sit about 15 times by this stage) and he just walked past with me. He had his head turned towards the other dog the whole time and was whimpering a little but in all I was VERY pleased with him.

I know we still have a long way to go and I’m sure he will play up the very next time we see another dog but if I keep working with him hopefully he will calm down around other dogs. I am also hoping that as he gets a bit older he wont be so excitable.

It sounds like you're on the right track and using a very good technique. Let me know if you have success with it at the end, and I'll start using it with Lady. She goes bezerk when she sees other dogs at the park. I wish she would just sit and look at them, and not try to run to them.

yeah, thanks very much for the great idea, i think that might work with dresden too. So glad to hear about your sucess!!! it's always so encouraging to make progress like that.
