Guest Anonymous
I have a puppy who's about nine months (she was rescued and no one knows her real age) and we've had her for about six months. I'm going to begin to take her to obeidiance training, but unfortunately won't beable to take her to obeidiance classes untill late june early july. I feel bad about this and was wondering if it could affect her chance of being trained if she was to wait a few more months. thanks for reading this and thanks for your help! Shannon_C
Hi there. The earlier the better really, waiting a few more months won't do any harm though as long as she is well socialised around dogs and people, build her confidence. She should still be socialised at home, and given lots of love and attention, she will be a great dog to have around' with plenty of training. GOOD LUCK. Guest Anonymous
As beneficial & enjoyable as early training is there is almost never such a thing as "too late". As long as your dog is fairly well socialized (& sometimes even if they aren't-I've had some luck with "difficult" dogs) an older dog is often more able to focus on & retain what they are taught. You can start some basic "etiquette" lessons on your own and/or basic commands like "come", "sit", etc. Those are very simple to teach & very handy to use in many situations. Don't feel guilty, you are obviously doing the best you can for your dog and that is the most important thing.
