Peeing Puppy

I have a 14 week old that pees in her crate and sleeps on it. She was from a breeder and none of the other pups have this problem. She also shows submissive peeing. This is a slow breed to house train so I accept that, but all of her brothers and sisters are fine in their crates. Any Suggestions?

Maybe the crate is too big for her? Sometimes if the crate is any bigger than for her to comfortable stand and turn around they will go to the bathroom in them.

Take your puppy to the vets incase she as an infection, if everything is ok it could be that she is being lazy. Try letting her out everytime she wakes up, as her drink and food, and when she as finished playing, take her to her favourite spot in the garden, this might take a while but when she is done, praise her and say (GOOD GIRL)...be patient with her. It might take time but it will be worth it. What breed is she ?

Puppies retain very little information until they reach AT LEAST 5 months old.
We have a 6 year old bitch (bought her at 4 1/2) that still pees AND poops in her crate. Laziness and too much room are very good suggestions.
You should always let a dog out to mess every time before putting her in the crate and after taking her out. Also, if she is in the house most of the time, only give her water when she eats. Then let her out right after her meal.
A lot of pups pee when they get excited or uncomfortable. She will get used to her surroundings and that will stop. If she gets excited when people come around let her out before you let them in.
Good luck!

How much time is she spending in her crate? If she has to stay too long at a stretch she is probably unable to "hold it". I know this is unavoidable sometimes (most of us DO have to hold jobs!).

Do you/have you punished her for it? DON'T.
Trust me on this one, it will only increase her anxiety & increase problem behaviours. Don't react to it at all, just clean it up & move on. DO reward (pet or give treat) each time she "goes" where she is supposed to. Try to do this WHILE she is "going".

The submissive urination is a major clue that your pup may have problems with anxiety. Lots of positive reinforcement (look for opportunities to reward her for "good" behaviours) and gentle handling (no yelling or physical force) will help immensely.

Is she attending puppy classes? If not I can tell you they are well worth the small cost, for the socialization as well as for the tips & support you will get from a good trainer. Avoid trainers who use force especially with an already fearful dog.

The key really is to reward good behaviour & in most cases do not acknowledge "bad" ones. If she does not receive ANY attention (positive or negative) for a given behaviour she will give them up in favor of behaviours that are rewarded. Maybe not in the next 30 seconds lol but with time.

Ideally if she is spending a lot of time in her cage, then she needs someone to be there with her to let her out. Clean fresh water should be provided at all times even when she is in the cage, and untill she is mature enough, she should not be left in there longer than 1 hour....and then at around One year old she should be able to be left a little longer like 3 or 4 hours at the most but if your able to get a friend, neighbour to let her out, this would help her a lot with her house training. If you have a chosen area for your pup to use, (instead of a spot that you dont want her to use) then this should be told to whoever is there with her so that she knows were to toilet.

Good Luck!
