  1. bubblebzzz, it may depend on the breed, but pyrs sleep all day. seriously. which is in their makeup. i leave them a toy and water and the crates are big enough where they can lay on their side or back stretched out if they want. it is better than the alternative, which is 1) a pyr fight or 2) a broken front window or something because they are on guard for a perceived threat. of course, a more active breed i am not sure what the answer would be.
  2. you "don't think you did your research" ???? That is a big dog with a lot of stigma attached to it. I certainly hope you do your research now and raise the dog well to be a good example of a bully breed "type", and also so you have a well-behaved companion that is pleasant to be around. And, well, all puppies can be hyper! :D Stick around and listen to what these folks have to say. Good luck!
  3. i have to finish the roll of film! most likely will have some monday but i am a dork whrn it comes to computer stuff so it will probably take all day...
  4. when i was laid up last year i taught sasha "tv". that way i could watch animal planet without her barking at phantom dogs all day!
  5. Ravyn, my Pyrs are crated all day too. The main reason being they are livestock guardians, which translates into "No one can walk by the house". We live in the city on a main road and if they were not crated I have no doubt one would go through the front window barking at the mailman or some nonsense. :-?
  6. i am not sure and Sharpeigirl can say for sure, but I think Sharpeis do sometimes...and it usually shows up in mixes as well.
  7. i agree, all american pup. i have not been to the boards, but i have met folks like this. the sanctimonious attitude isn't exactly getting more dogs out of the shelters, now, is it?
  8. Also, Courtnek, I was worried about them until I was off work last year for six weeks after surgery. They sleep all day. What a life! 8)
  9. Look up the Elkhound, that might really work for you too! :D
  10. Munchhausen's syndrome. To think I defended this woman about her "pending divorce". Thank you Lorraine. The world needs more like you.
  11. there is a special place in hell for them. i am so angry that is all i can say on this.
  12. JM, to be fair, Pyr Rescue is not like that. Courtnek, your situation sounds a lot like mine, and trust me, everyone always tells me how HAPPY my dogs are! :D
  13. ...is Baxter, our new Pyr! Guys, he is great! He is cool with the crate, in love with our Pomeranian and even made friends with the cat. Sasha and him hang out on the deck together, alternating who is barking at whatever walks by (i am so proud to have two pyrs i could just cry) and him and Taz, although they have some stuff to work out, started to play together yesterday. He is just a big hunk and loves to be petted and walked and fawned over. He greets everyone with a wagging tail. I will have more photos soon but I will have to scan them so bear with me...
  14. Tomorrow is Baxter Day! I won't be here again probably til late next week but I wanted to say thanks for everyone's kind words and support towards our new dog! I am sure I will have lots more stories and questions so I am happy for my Dogo friends! Peace, Miss
  15. HF is right, there are many strains that just can't be stopped. It's weird that a cat got it though! i thought it coulndn't be transmitted inter-species...
  16. jm, i didn't know your sister had a pyr! they are something else. if they hook you, you're done!
  17. right ON you guys! i like the cold stare. it IS rude, too. I don't feel that anyone is in a position to judge me, but i get all sensitive and stuff...
  18. you are right of course...f*** 'em! thanks kat! (i love how you said "brill"!) :D
  19. sigh. thanks r2. i am just sensitive about that crap i guess!
  20. Sash has no stones, masses or other icky stuff in her bladder, so now the vet is doing a sensitivity culture to isolate the cause of her infections so she can be treated with meds. Yay!!! Thanks for all your kind thoughts. And also, this means five days til Baxter day! :D Everyone (non dog-owners) think we are crazy for adopting another one and have even said mean things like "Okay, it's official, you are now The Crazy Dog Lady". I think that is really mean. How should I handle this?
  21. welcome! I have a Pyr among other things-it is nice to see another large-breed owner! :D
  22. You guys are so nice! Thanks! OG, i love what you said about paying the vet bills! Right on! We have to be structured as it is now 'cause muffin and sasha must be supervised together and they all eat separately. I am excited and nervous! I can't wait to get photos, he is a big boy, all white. :D
  23. Thank you everyone. I will keep you posted on Sasha's vet appointment, and then Baxter Day!
