1. yeah! Taz kind of lets Sasha push him around most of the time, too. Baxter has been in foster care ten months, part of that time kenneled next to another male Pyr (which is usually a horrible combination and only to be attempted by the extremely expyrienced!) but after being next to each other for so long they are fine, and Baxter is not the bossy one. And it's been over three years, Taz kind of knows we aren't going anywhere.
2. oh, yes, everyone is fixed! The whole pack order thing is weird in our house. Me, Dave and the cat are on top, then the dogs are not. There is no hard and fast order between them, although that may change with Baxter in the mix.
3. oh, yeah, totally! they are separated now when they eat and the only toys that are communal are the "yard toys". the pyr rescue chairman has had 20 yrs. experience with the breed and she was like "well, like it or not we are going to be like family"! this is a good thing.
4. they did meet for the first time at a park, and it went well, then we came back to the house where taz started his posturing...nothing mean, and he did bark his little "play with me" puppy bark. I know they will have to work it out, i guess i am just a little nervous...
5. I honestly don't know. Baxter is really mellow, but he's still a Pyr and won't take any crap. On the other hand, Taz is a lover, not a fighter...
6. well i KNOW Sasha is head bitch! (after me of course!) :D isn't that funny? Baxter's got about 40 pounds on Taz and is quite a bit taller as well. I think the males have an easier time than the females living together, yes?
7. If all is well with Sasha and we adopt Baxter, we will have two boys in our pack...Taz is 3.5 and Baxter is about 6. Taz is not super-dominant and neither is Baxter, from what I can tell, but this is "Taz's place", he was here first. Does anyone else have two males, and can you give me some pointers on creating harmony? I know the first few weeks are always tough, but I just want to arm myself with as many ideas as possible. Thanks, as always! :D
8. thanks guys! i will try wiping them off too, i don't have allergies so i have no idea what they are reacting to... :(
9. muffin has hot spots which i am treating with topical cortisone cream and anti itch spray with aloe. the other two are not losing fur but are chewing, corncobbing and licking, mainly paws for Sasha and crotch for Taz. their coats are too thick for me to get through to the skin. Sasha is 100 lbs., Taz is 58 and Muffin is 12. Maybe 2 for Sash, one for Taz and one-half for Muffin?
10. i gave her one last nite but i don't think it was enough, she was ok for a few hours then it started again. how much can you give based on weight? is this something you can do on a regular basis?
11. i would say white GSD. Gorgeous!
12. sorry guys! i was incommunicado yesterday... Anyways! Everyone met and aside from some posturing on Taz's part and attempting to hump him (Baxter has got fifty pounds on him...) it went really really well! Anyone who has multiple males and can give me some advice on that would be greatly appreciated! Baxter is in love with little Muffin and even liked the cat. He and Sasha played like old buddies. Although Baxter has spent the past ten months in the country in rescue and before that was picked up in a rural shelter, so the sounds of Cleveland were new to him! (church bells, sirens, cars...) However we can't make a final decision until Sasha's Saturday vet appointment. Her UTIs are getting worse and the doc wants to ultrasound her bladder. If she needs surgery, it's a no go, as that involves weeks of crate rest, not to mention the expense. I am really worried about her, please keep her in your thoughts. Also, while i have you here, all three dogs are REALLY ITCHY. (no fleas). Does anyone have a good remedy or product? Thanks as always, I will keep you posted...
13.
Thats so cool! Keep us up to date on Baxter :D oh yes i have to say I love the catchy topic name
well, "Pyr" fits in everywhere you look! :D
14. thank you! ;-) Apparently Baxter has a sandwich chew toy that he carries everywhere with him. How cute is this? :D
15. A couple weeks back you remember i posted about us possibly adopting a 2 year old male from Pyr Rescue. After talking with the rescue chairman who has the rescues at her place, she and I decided that the five-year old male (Baxter) would be better suited to us and our pets. So tomorrow she is bringing him up here to meet our crew! Our dogs have the ultimate say, as you know, but my husband and I decided to do this if it works out with them. Baxter is a big mellow guy, all white with a big ol head. He has been in rescue for ten months. (!) We just have to see how our male feels about him and also how he feels about our cat. whew. i am really anxious to see how it turns out! keep paws crossed? thanks guys.
16. (hi r2, have not forgot about u but have been hella busy, sorry... :( ) Hey, schippsmom, the priest who married us has a schipperke! the first time we met i walked into the house and i'm like, "oh, a schipperke" and he just about passed out 'cause i knew what she was! hella cute! too much energy for me, but i can see why people fall in love with them.
17. yeah, there is so much hair now it doesn't even faze me anymore! i am glad to hear that 3 to 4 is not that big of a thing from you guys. Personally, I think the ideal situation would be a 5-7 year old pyr (would have to be male) to kind of bring down the energy level a bit. I will keep you posted of course. It will be kind of a process I am sure. I just want to help them.
18. Thank you, everyone. JackieMaya, I was thinking that too, about them having company. Well it will be a process. I'll keep you updated.
19. that's what we were thinking too. He is such a sweetie, just a big goofy love. i hate to see him there with no home. He had a home at one time, the rescue group got him from a shelter. When the shelter picked him up he had tags on. They called the owners and they didn't want him anymore. "Too big".
20. No ma'am, we do not foster them, all of the rescues, due to the somewhat singular nature of the Pyr, are fostered and evaluated for six months by one woman, who really really knows what she is doing. Because of the two girls not getting along inside, we have had to learn to pay attention to individual time with them, which could be a blessing in disguise. And while I don't want to say that "money is no object", our dogs and their activities and stuff is where our extra income goes, our choice. I am just nervous I guess. My husband is of the same idea you are, Lokipups, adding on after two is not so bad!
