How old is Luka ? Sassy loves the hairdryer , even when it's not being used on her !! When I dry my hair , she runs in to be blow dried, she just likes the warm air. :D I started them out as puppies being blow dried, so I think it's just something they get used to. Sitting on the floor,have dog inbetween legs, with face pointing out away from you ,Start out on low setting and point it at the back and feet, I think they tend to freak out faster if it's pointed at their face or front. Give treats and praise while doing it, it'll soon be associated with good stuff !!! :wink: Debbie 8)

Sassy is the Queen Bee in the house, she was here first and she just acts like ,I was the first you all can be replaced but not me! She is my loyal and gentle companion.Gretchen(Lab/Rott) is very gentle , loving,doesn't care if the jacks are picking on her, is just happy to be with people,happy go lucky, having a ball to play with or a stick and she's in 7th heaven ! Maisy is the youngest, and she is the little tyrant. She has slowly taken the Alpha position away from Sassy, and she delights in picking on both of them. But yet she'll be the one who grooms the cat and plays nicely with him. She's very excitable when ever any one comes, first one to bark at a noise 10 miles away. Barks at other dogs , but when confronted, will bark while in retreat !! :lol: All in all , the 3 of them just love being wherever I am. I usually have a jack on either side and Gretchie laying on my feet. When I get up I have an entourage following me !! :D My hubby is quite often jealous of the "girls" and calls me the "Dog Lady" :lol: I love my girls to pieces ! :angel: Debbie 8)

Sassy (jrt) would love to kill the vacuum, :evil: but only when the power head is on , when the hose part is on , she stays away. Maisy(jrt) and Gretchen(Lab/Rott) just stay at a distance watching, not really afraid, just wary of the darn thing ! :o With Sass , I just say no when she starts attacking it and she usually stops :wink: Debbie 8)

Luckychaos, Thankyou for sharing that sad story. :cry: I too am crying my eyes out right now. It was a beautifully written piece,and unfortunately a realism that happens everyday ! :( Another good reason for people to stop the random breeding that goes on and SPAY AND NEUTER their pets. Gretchen, our 80lb. Lab/Rott will come up and give me a monster paw and her other technique is to lay her head in my lap and look up out of the top of her big brown eyes..... works for her everytime !!! :angel: Sassafrass , my JRT will just jump up and nestle beside me and lay her head on my leg. Maisy (JRT) is a little more forthright, she just springs into my lap and starts licking the bejesus out of my face, once she settles down she'll lay in my arms with her head looking up at my face !! She's so adoring ! :angel: And mine are like Mouses when I come home all 3 are vying for attention, and Maisy can get a little nasty to Sass , if she see's Sass getting Lovies ! :cry: This situation makes me sick, I have read every post on this news item. The police in that area obviously have nothing BETTER to do , like cleaning up drugs or other serious problems. NO they have to pick on unsuspecting motorists with full family's in their cars. It should have been enough to just make a stop and run their licenses. But NOOOOO we have to get all " America's Most Wanted" on them and in the process shoot a family pet in front of the whole family including kids. This world is going to hell in a handbasket !!! As my Grandma would say !! I hope that family gets a HUGE settlement, it won't bring Patton back but it sure will be sending a HUGE message to that police department. :evil: Nothing shocks me anymore, Debbie :cry:

Dogs or Cats the age long debate :agrue: Personally I am a dog person but I love animals of all kinds. Currently I own 3 dogs and 1 cat. I have 2 JRT's and a Lab/Rott mix, the cat is a Ginger Tom who came to us at 6 wk. , so he thinks he's a dog and he also wrestles with one of my Jacks. He and that particular Jack clean each others ears and the cat will also clean my Lab mixs ears too!! I must agree though , I think he does shed more , but I think that's because he doesn't like me brushing him !! :x Debbie :o

I have a beautiful Jack Russell female who is breed standard perfect. She's pure white with one tan ear. I have people saying "are you going to let her have babies ?" or "Can I breed my male with her?" I say "Sorry she's SPAYED !!" That takes care of that !! LOL Debbie :wink:

So sorry that McKay passed. :cry: I will not buy from Pet stores. I know pets can still get sick but if you know where they come from (breeder,parents,) and you can visually see where they are born and the circumstances that is a start. Someone in my neighborhood had that same problem and they returned the puppy to the Pet store and got a refund. Because the Vet didn't know if the puppy would pull through even with treatment. Well the puppy did pull through, the pet store had him treated and when the people saw that she was for sale again , they wanted to re-purchase her for the same amount they had paid before and the pet store turned them down because they wanted $200 more dollars for her. So the people had to decline. Pet stores are definitely in it for the profit not the love of the animals. I get very depressed when I go in for supply's and see the puppies on those hard wire bottom cages with no pad for comfort. It's soo sad :( So sorry for your loss and the pain that McKay had to endure, Debbie

Some people may be afraid because of situations they may have encountered in the past with a specific breed. I really think experiences with a breed have a great effect. I had an Akita/Rott mix F and everyone was afraid of her , she just looked like she meant business, but she was very sweet. Now I have 2 Jack Russell Terriers and a LAB/Rott mix and if I were people I'd be more afraid of the Terriers :lol: I myself had a couple of bad experiences with a couple breeds but I don't hold it against the breed. I had a loose Mastiff try and fight my Akita mix when we were walking and just this past summer I had a HUGE Rottweiler (loose) come charging out at me walking my Jacks. Now that is scary when YOUR dogs are only 20lb put together . So you can see how it might color someones opinion on a certain breed. I don't blame the breed or the dog , I blame the irresponsible owner!! Debbie

I just read the story and I am crying :cry: Some humans are evil :evil: and should be dealt with accordingly. The problem is , is that there are not tough enough laws on animal cruelty,I think everyone should go to their local gov't officials and DEMAND harsher penalty's and definite jail time for these individuals that are Void of any compassion. They should be monitored and treated just like sex offenders, they should never be allowed to be near or own another animal ever!! And they should have some kind of list , so that if they did try , there would be a list that potential (Good) breeders could look at . My brothers cat passed away today,Furry Murray wasn't just any old cat. He was like a little man. He was part Maine Coon and ??. He was 3yr old and weighed 45 lb. . He was as solid as a bull dog. He was a real mans man of a cat. We will all miss Murray so much. My brother is beside himself with grief. He is getting Murray cremated and will always be with my brother. He was a cat that brought a smile to everyone who saw him. He was an indoor cat and lived like a King. There will never be another like him. Rest in Peace,Murray Debbie and the whole family :cry:

:roll: I would like to know if anybody knows why dogs get impacted anal glands ?? :oops: I have Jack Russell Terriers and quite often they have a very stinky odor from impacted anal glands. They have had to have them expressed at the Vets, but still get the condition from time to time . Is there anything I can add to their diet to prevent this ? Would really appreciate any advice or info. Thanx, Debbie :o

I have a Jack Russell named Maisy and a Lab/Rott mix named Gretchen and they both have black nails and are very skitzy when I get near them with clippers. So I take mine to our Groomer and she dremels them and only charges $5 per dog. $5 is worth it to me. The first time she used the dremel on them they were scared but now they are fine with it. 8) I have a white Jack Russell and her right eye gets the bad tear stains. I have tried something called Diamond Eye and it really doesn't work that great, and it smells real mentholey.. :x I wonder if that Dr. Foster and Smith stuff really works ?? :-? If anybody out there has any good remedy's let us know. Everybody always says " What's wrong with her eye ??" :evil: Debbie

I think that all dogs should be spayed or neutered unless they are going to be used for breeding purposes. Spaying prevents reproductive diseases in females , I don't know if there is any for the males. I have only had females. For males I think it alleviates roaming , and aggressiveness, at least this is what I'm told. Debbie 8)
