Dogpaddle - That is the plan. Since I dont know how it will effect her I am just trying to take it cautiously. Plus she went to daycare today and I didn't want to get a call to come get her cuz she had the runs. Daisy - Interesting. She did seem a little constipated this morning. I have been told it has the opposite effect. See all dogs are different. She hasn't gotten any splinters off, with the raw bone I am not to worried about that. Now, I have been told that you can wash it and fill it, and freeze it. Anybody got any good recipes?

If you go to dirtdog.com it should have all that info. I am sure there are some. Also, you can join the jrtca and compete in their trials. You can go to www.terrier.com to get info on your local chapter. Good luck and have fun. My girl wont go in the hole, big chicken

Halo products makes an herbal ear wash that is really nice. It is all natural and should clean them right up. Safe and effective!

She's doing fine, thank goodness. The bone was about 5" long and probably had about 5 tblp of marrow in it. Jacks tend to have sensitive stomachs (she throws up bully sticks!). No diarrhea this morning, she actually seemed a little stopped up. So I guess all is well.

:o :o :o I actually found some raw marrow bones after weeks of searching. I gave one to Mary tonight. She loves it but I am still a little nervous. She had the outside clean in 15 minutes. After eating about a tbls of marrow (she is 16 lbs), I got nervous too much would give her the runs, so I poked out most of the rest of the marrow. Like I said this is a first for me and I am still really nervous. The bone is thick and not splintering so I am not worried about that. I just hope she doesn't get sick. Such a worrier!

:hand: Just wanted to say Hey!! I have noticed we have had a few new members join with jacks or mixes. My name is Erin and I have two jacks. Female, Mary, 1yo; Male, Stewie, 4 weeks old (still at the breeders). Here a few breed specific sites if you are interested. www.jackrussells.com www.jrtzone.com (just got started and are looking for new members) Hope to see you around more often!

I am new to this real bone thing and I am having trouble finding raw bones. None of the stores around here cut their own meat, and I can't find a traditional butcher. But at the pet store they had smoked marrow bones. I bought one just to see what would happen. Of course she loves it, but she was able to break pieces off. So now I am in the splinter limbo, and I took it away until I get further input. I dont know if the smoking is enough cooking to make the bone splinter bad. It sounded like she was able to chew up the pieces she broke off. So does anyone know, should she be able to eat the smoked bone just like a raw bone, or does smoked bones fall into the cooked and dangerous category??

Congrats!!! :klacz: You must be so excited. Good luck with everything. How long is the trip to KC? I could have my new baby shipped but the drive to PA is only 8 hours. So we are driving. I just cant let a baby fly alone! Well have a great time and take lots of pics to show us!!

Oops that was me, sorry.

Well I am the evil one. I do NOT like cats at all. I am allergic to begin with so I have never gotten to know any cats. Second, my MIL has tons of cats (they live in the country), the cats are filthy and gross. About 6 live in a small mobile home and it reaks of cat piss not to mention the 10-20 outside (it varies due to removal by hawks and new litters). That is the nastiest smell I have ever known. Now I have to deal with loose cats all the time. We live in an apartment and everyone seems to think the dogs have to be on leash but the cats can run around willy nilly. So if my dog gets out the door, off she goes after one of the many cats. Leash laws should apply to all animals!!! So in my life cats have really been nothing but a HUGE nuisance. But some people dont like dogs. That's why there are so many different wonderful creatures on the earth.

crested - to learn about kongs go to www.kongcompany.com They explain all of their different products and provide recipes for their products. They work great. I also use what is called a Buster Cube.

Thanks for the comments. I was really just curious. I bring home my pup in 6 weeks. The main deciding factor for me was the temperament of the parents. They are both great dogs, the pups are being raised in the home with children so getting lots of human interaction, the mother so far has done a wonderful job taking care of them, there is another adult dog in the household, and he has 4 siblings. We will leave him with his mother till he is 10 weeks old. So I think this pup should be having a great start in the world and I just wanted to know if it all really mattered? I hope it helps him be the best dog he can be.

How old will he be when you get him? How much longer do you have to wait? Why did you decide to crop them? Sorry just nosey. I dont have an opinion, I just dont know much about the breed. :D

Ingredients look fairly decent but it seems to have a high fat content (16%); not for the over weight or under active.

I feed Wellness kibble with a little wet for gravy and .5 tsp of Wellness Supplement every other day. They are all made to work together and balance completely so no worries of over or under supplementing. I do hear that the Solid Gold Seameal is good as well, and Dr. Krugers.

Those of you with breeding experience (or not), have you noticed or do you know of any literature that supports temperament as either genetic or at least inherited in some way? Do you believe that the temperaments of the parents will be passed onto the resulting litter?
-
Just to play devils advocate (dont shoot me). I have read that even though dogs do eat raw meat in the wild, most wild dogs live lives much shorter than domesticated dogs and often die from complications of eating raw meat, ie infections, diseases, problems caused by eating bones. I dont how much value it holds but it is something to think about. Wild dogs dont necessarily live the best lives, at least not as good as domestic dogs.

How old was she when you got her? Did she have the appropriate amount of puppy socialization? Most people dont realize that a puppy learns how to behave with other dogs between 8 weeks and 4 months. If they are not sufficiently exposed to other dogs in that time frame, they will not learn canine ettiquette. This is why many breeders prefer to keep pups until 4 months of age. It sounds to me like your girl just doesn't know how to act in the "canine world". Unfortunately, it is not something that can really be fixed. You can work at minimizing the damage but you can never get that critical learning stage back.

It's okay Courtnek. My hubby is one too. He is a graphic artist who has been swept up into the web side unwillingly. You wouldn't believe the crap I have to listen too and have no clue what he is talking about. I just nod my head and look interested!

Courtnek!!!!!!! I can't believe it worked. Thanks so much for the tip. I got in from home! Thanks again.

K - I have been unable to get to ANY dogo site from home for months now. I try every weekend with no luck. This weekend when I typed in only "dogomania.com" it filled in the rest as Courtnek said. Even if I searched google and hit the dogomania link there, it filled in the rest just as Courtnek said. I can say with 100% there is something wrong with the site, not my machine, or operator error.

It is usually not recommended to mix kibble and raw. It is too difficult to know exactly how much of the nutrients they are getting. Unless you just feed mainly kibble and then use veggies for treats or give a raw bone once a week or so. I have not heard good things about Diamond. Except for the one that is tauted as Natural. It is a personal decision though. You really need to educate yourself about ingredients, and read labels and make your own decision. www.greatdanelady.com is a great site with good info. Even though the lady breeds danes she has done a lot of research on food that extrapolates to most breeds.

I got the same page. I can get here just fine from my machine at work but at home all I get is the site admin page. Guess they haven't really fixed anything have they?

Do you ever spend any one on one time with your dogs. IE only take one outside to play at a time? Maybe Alex needs a little quality time with Daddy. My girl doesn't like to play fetch either, but I got her a GIANT tennis ball that she can push with her nose. She pushes it around in circles, I did have to kinda show her and the more we play the better she gets. It's kinda like soccer, pretty fun. Just some ideas I thought I'd share. :D
