1. awesome job! it looks nice...coal is one cutie pie! :D
2. Gosh, if my parents every took my computer away from me- I don't know what I would do! I always spend so much time on it late at night, I would go crazy without it. I can't wait until I am 18 (one more year) and able to move out and go to college...ahhh, more freedom. :D
3.
Labs are part goldfish - they will eat till they burst!! LOL
ah ha! that is the truth. And so are rotties. and guess what? my boy is a rottweiler/lab mix...boy can he EAT! holy cow. and labs are smart...tooo :D
4. ahhh! beautiful babies, you have there! :D
5. cool! great job, everyone. Photoshop is so fun to fool around with, so many neat things :D
6. ohhhhh my gosh! what a face!!! ahhh, a beauty indeed!!! :D
7. Quietness means nothing but trouble!!!! I know Landon by heart...if he is quiet, there is definitely something wrong.
8. Absolutely not! Some men murder, that does not make them all murderers. It just happens that the media likes to ruin the reputation of the Pitt Bull and the rottweiler, and they do a good job. The impression people give you when you mention that your dog is a rottweiler or rottie mix...my oh my, like "why would you ever own such an aggressive dog." No. Rotties remind me of labs in rottie clothing, they are big babies and wonderful creatures! The thing is, they are not dogs for everyone. Not every home is right for a rottweiler, especially those who are uneducated about the breed and do not know how to trian their dog. I have a rottie/lab mix who is the sweetest thing on earth, he is a big bundle of joy full of happiness and love...and he has never ever tried to snap at anyone. But, he has tried to kiss some people to death...I must say he is innocent of that 8) The rottweiler is an amazing breed, that takes special training, care, love, time, and patience. The manner in which the dog is raised, the environment in which it is raised, and the reason for why it was trained all effect the dog's temperment, even so the lines that they came from and the temperment of their parents. Many people take Pitts and Rotties and us them as "guard", or shall we say "attack", dogs...they try to make themselves look big and mighty by walking around with, what most people think of, as a 'scary' looking dog. They ruin the image of the breed, because most of them are young teenagers or in their early 20's who do not know how to care for such a breed, who do not know the training that is necessary, and who raise the dog to be nothing but harmful. I would never ever describe a rottweiler as dangerous or aggressive, they are anything but that! It is people who take breeds and give them such a "bad" image, owners are the most dangerous things to dogs. And just as any dog can be trained to be as loving as possible and as well behaved as possible, humans can take a dog and make it the opposite.
9. :D :D :D A nice happy beginning to a journey ahead with a splendid dog!! I have thought about it for a long time, heard several reasons, and have come to the conclusion that there is absolutely no excuse to drop your dog or any other animal off at a shelter- when it comes down to it, it is usually because of the faults of the human. such as, not knowing what they are getting into- thinking a dog is as easy to care for as a fish- not knowing anything about the breed they are getting or the temperment of a dog, or that the dog needs training, time, love, and care- and yadda yadda yadda. uneducated people. ugh.
10. well thanks everyone!!! Debbie- cool, I would love to see a picture of Gretchen!! Landon's my hunk, my precious baby boy! I can't believe how fast he is growing though- holy crap. He has muscles too, ha...I remember the first time he dragged me through the yard...I was just walking him around, doing a little training...and what do you know, he spots a ground hog and decides he wants to play with it- without even asking me! ahhhhhh that was one heck of a walk. *sitting* *staying* ick...I don't like chicken flavored bones. can I have another treat? dove dark chocolate...mmmm! thanks for all the nice comments about my babies! I won't tell Landon that you all think he is cute, don't want his head getting too big;)
11. Oh wow! that is scary. I hate when incidents like this happen, because I know they can be prevented...and that there is some underlying problem that caused the dog to do such a thing- I don't think it is a dog's natural instinct if it has been raised and trained properly. It is sad for the victims of such incidents, how horrible. But, one thing I really hate is how incidents such as this give dogs like Rottweilers and Pit Bulls really bad names- and when people think of those two breeds they get the idea of aggressive dogs. I know many rottweilers and many pitts who are nothing but big babies, and they are so innocent! I could never imagine them biting anyone, they are just too sweet and so well behaved- but a lot of love, time, and patience was put into it to make them behave that way. Those two breeds are not for everyone, and some people do not understand that. I have a rottie/lab mix, and he is just the sweetest dog. I can only hope that all the love, time, patience, and care that I put into him will pay off. As far as the girl who was bit- I hope she will be okay, and be able to overcome that fear.
12. Hey all you dog fanatics! I don't know if you remember me, I haven't been around in a while- but just got some time too and decided I would stop by to see how everyone is. Boy, this place is busy! I have a couple of other boards that I keep up with, and usually I only get done getting caught up at one, and then I don't have much time left. Since I am a junior in highschool, things are pretty busy- and now that it is getting nearer to the end of school- I am able to get more time to do things (finally!) My Landon is almost one now, he will turn one on June 11th, and on June 14th Lilly will turn two. Three days apart, my two beautiful babies!!! here's Lilly (yellow lab mix) and Landon (black lab/rottie mix)
13. dogpaddle- someone actually did try to sell their dog on e-bay, when you go to their site it says that no animals will be sold their- they eventually took it off, after many complaints...sad to know people would do such a thing! this wasn't too long ago either- one month maybe????
14. Okay guys- I am just going to jump in here...lol First of all, I disagree with mixing breeds- no matter how responsible you are, no matter how long you have been doing it- there is no need to do it!!! Just like the Labradoodle (or something like that- ha!)- they say they are making it for a breed that does not shed, and that people won't have allergies- well heck, just go get a dang standard poodle- don't be ruining the wonderful breeds that we have- and instead of making "new" breeds to please people, why don't you start saving the dogs that are in the shelters, day after day, more and more are put to sleep- they need a forever home, someone to love them If your going to breed- than breed to better a breed all around...don't go making up a new breed just so it will become "popular". Its not needed- let me tell you, we are already overpopulated with dogs- mixes inparticular... obviously the lab mixes in the shelters don't seem to be popular, seeing that there are so many being put down... Whats going to be next? a chihauahound??? geeshus!!!! Instead- give out pamphlets telling people to go to their local shelters, theres so many suffering dogs there- waiting to go into a home where they will be loved. But no, us humans are stubborn- and we decide to bring more "unneeded" (not necessarily unwanted) dogs into this world.. well I am sick of crap happening and dogs taking the blame for it- oh well the dog didn't work out- so the dog gets sent to the shelter, sooner or later it will be put down- only because the humans didn't know what they were doing when they added a pup in their home. or just as simple as not getting your dog spayed or neutered...and oops, all the sudden your exepecting pups- well what happens when the complications come along? what happens when these pups come out unhealthy- are they going to have to live like that the rest of their lives? and most of these pups end up in homes that I would never want to see a pup end up in... I have rescued two dogs, I am 16 myself- and let me say this- there are so many more out there that need homes....we don't need to be creating new breeds! What for? the money?? why can't people be happy with just a pug??? geesh! what are we doing to breeds? what is happening? where are our minds??? I am sorry if this offends you, but I won't sit back- and I will feel free to shout out my opinion anytime. I hope you know what you are doing each time you bring an unneeded litter of pups into this world... The dogs in the shelters are just as important as your pug thingamagies- and they deserve the same amount of love, and the same chance to be placed in a wonderful home! leave the breeding up to those who are experienced, up to those who know what they are doing- and who are in it to better a particular breed all around!!! I am off my rant now..

18. Today, most people consider their dogs as part of the "family" Technology has improved, and dogs aren't needer or used as much for the things that they use to be used for. Some people still hunt dogs, some people do SAR with their dogs, some people show dogs, some people do agility, others use their dogs for herding... and then there are those that have their dogs as a companion... I really do not think that it makes a dog more important if it does some sort of work, or if it is just a "family dog". I own two family dogs- I don't show them, they don't hunt, they don't do agility- they are part of my family- and to tell you the truth- they love it that way. As time changes- so does life. Dogs used to be used primarily for some sort of work-depending on the breed, now- people are bonding with their dogs, forming inseperable relationships...and treating them more like family members. My dogs still go out- get exercise, romp through the field, retrieve, and do fun stuff- and after all the fun and play is over, they love to cuddle... Look how much humans have changed since back then- we have become lazier (sp?), our technology has improved- making it more simple to do some things...we don't have to work as hard as people had to way back then... Along with dogs being more prone to unhealthiness, we have grown more prone to unhealthiness also...you hear about so many diseases, cancer, AIDS, you name it... And since people have gained such an inseperable relationship with their dogs, they have more feelings with their dogs, and care more about them...so they take them to the vet on a regular basis, and try to do whatever is possible to keep them healthy... My dogs aren't "lazy" they do things- I make sure they get a certain amount of exercise each day, and I don't think anyone should let their dogs just "sit around and be lazy"- its not good or healthy for them...but also, its not good to "overwork" your dog either..... I guess you could say, over the years- things have changed...maybe things that we don't agree with...but its up to us to make a change in that....
19. Its a very touching story...the lady who took that dog in had a lot of courage, and love- she did the right thing, bless her heart! I think the story had a happiness in it also- Rose found her forever home, and although it took her time to get use to it, she had found a forever home- in the heart of a lady who had so much compassion... The last sentence just made me break down- it was so sweet, if only Rose could have felt that lover her whole life...
20. Name: Landon Sex: male Breed: Black lab/rotti mix Age: 6 months Favorite things: family, his sister (lily), playing fetch, romping through the field, cuddling, and eating... Greatest wish: To be able to have all the treats and food in the world, and to always have snow on the ground...and play play play fetch forever!!! Name: Lilly Sex: Female Breed: Yellow Labrador Retriever mix Age: 1 Favorite things: Going for a walk, romping through the field, eating, cuddling by the fireplace, and going for car rides Greatest wish: Shes a pretty happy dog- and if she could have anything in the world- I think it would be land that never ends, so she could run free forever and ever!!!
21. ugh, I couldn't read that- stuff like that just makes me so upset that I begin to cry- even though its not happening anymore, the fact that it did go on...and helpless dogs were tied up and tortured like that...I just can't believe it, boy- after reading K's post (I found your dog today) and this...I better go re-do my makeup! lol... Some people, they have no hearts whatsoever! If they can stand there and torture a dog like that, they must have no compassion whatsoever...its just so horrid...
22. *sniffle* Wow! I should take the warnings when I see them, a box of tissues probably would come in handy at this time...oh goodness, see- you all are real dog people, your compassionate dog people, and I am thankful that there are people lik you out there. It blessed me to know that there are more people out there that will read stories like this, and their heart will break, and tears will fall...because they have a certain feeling for animals, they have a love...and they care!!!
23. I am going to sign it right now, and pass it on to another board that I visit- this is horrible! how could anyone?? What an inhumane act!!!!!!
24. Ah, you can't say the name "pit bull" without somebody making a big fuss. I love the breed, my friend owns one...and it loves little kids to death, it has never once barked viciously or tried to attack anyone...I think its the OWNER...NOT the DOG! Any dog can attack, let me repeat- ANY DOG CAN ATTACK! Its those irresponsible humans that are a danger to our society, the irresponsible dog trainers...you can't blame a dog for how it was trained, or because it was abused or neglected, or because it wasn't properly cared for, or maybe because it wasn't trained and raised in a bad environment...no, when you take a dog in your hands...you are taking a precious life..and it is YOUR responsibility to train it up properly. You mess up, the dog does wrong- and WHY IS IT THAT THE DOG GETS BLAMED? If you know your dog is aggressive- DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. don't let it run around- make sure you KNOW your dog, don't just say "well I don't think it would ever bite anyone" BE POSITIVE! never take chances. I have met many pits and rotties who are just labs in disguise...most loveable dogs you will ever meet!! I own a rotti mix, and he is a big teddy bear. NO ONE CAN FORCE ME TO MUZZLE HIM! I know my dog...I can truly say that I know him...we have put trust in eachother, and formed a love bond...I have tested how he acts in different environments, around differet people- but I still must be careful. I may not know him as well as I think I do, but let me say this- he would lick someone to death before he ever, let me stress this, ever bit them to death. why are dogs being judged by what dogs of the same breed have done? Do they know the history of the dog that attacked, is there a reason- they can say that it doesn't matter all they want- but it does!!! I disagree- I don't think that dogs are born as biters, there is something that triggers them...and banning the breed won't do anything, so I am glad that they took another step- but if they want to stop dogs from attacking- they are going to have to go beyond the Pits. Any dog can learn to be fierce- and any dog can learn to love. YOU have to be responsible and train that dog,be consistent and firm. Whats next? If they ever did ban pits, we would have another breed that will all the sudden begin attacking. Where is it going to end? Let me tell you- its going to end when they begin to ban irresponsible breeders, irresponsible owners, and irresponsible trainers- they are the ones that can cause harm to a dog- any dog! So let me say this- don't try to stop the problem by muzzling a dog...thats not going to do anything, how many people do you think will obey that law? Maybe if we didn't have people who abused, neglected, fight, and train their dogs to attack...or those who don't train their dogs at all...then maybe we would have better tempered dogs. Maybe if those dogs knew what love was...they wouldn't have to use the only protective tool they have (biting)...maybe we wouldn't have so many bad tempered dogs being bred with bad tempered dogs, producing bad tempered pups...which, even if trained well, that bad temperment can still come out in the pups. Maybe if we didn't have people who taught their dog so much hate, we wouldn't have dogs running around lose showing others what they have felt... When will people smarten up?
25. Good thread...and good posts, everyone! I am 16, own two dogs of my own (a yellow lab mix, and a rotti/lab mix) and I take full responsibility of them. I really have learned so much from my dogs, something that a human probably could not have taught me. Dogs are now considered part of the family, which they should- because they are such special animals. But- some act as if there dogs are human. They eat human food, they are spoiled rotten, get what they want, treated like a human (which can and cannot be a good thing) and they get away with lots more than dogs should...you will definitely run into problems if you spoil your dog so much. A dog is a dog, it wasn't born as a human- and cannot turn into a human. Just like us humans have our own traits and characteristics, so do dogs. They have minds of their own- they don't have human minds...you can't train your kid like you train your dog. Do not train a dog to be human- train a dog to be and act like a dog. You must show your dog who is the head of the house, the alpha...and they must know that they are under your authority, and that you have the last word. Don't let the cute looks manipulate you...be firm, strong, and use discipline...and when good, use praise. The other day I drove by somebodys house with my friend. It was snowing out, and the dog was outside playing...my friend turns to me and says "that is so mean"...what? what is so mean about a dog having fun and enjoying the snow? Just because you would not be having fun, does not mean the dog isn't having fun- you are two totally different species. DOGS LOVE SNOW!!! now, it would be different if the dog was sitting there shaking in front of the door- waiting to go in. But this dog was jumping around, butt-tucking in the snow...and it was fine. Actually, sometimes I think it is an insult to label a dog as a human...dogs are so much more loving, no matter how many times they see you- if you walk away, and come back again...they will greet you like they haven't seen you in a year, they love to be loved and to cuddle- no matter with who, they love ALL people, I don't really think they have "enemies", they never talk back, and I haven't seen a dog that has hated someone, yet. Humans cause the most destruction to dogs, if you really think about it. Or should I say, humans can cause destruction to dogs. we are given the lives of these precious animals to take care of, and to train properly. Some people take that for advantage- and improperly train their dogs...some train their dogs to fight, some just spoil their dog to pieces in which they hardly learn anything, some train their dogs to attack, etc. Love your dog like you would your family, but train and treat it like its a dog...
