American bulldogs and Boxers

I just recently received a new brindle American bulldog. He is a year and half old. I've been looking at the pictures on this forum and I can't tell the difference between these two breeds. I got him from the dog shelter. I'm thinking more and more he is a boxer instead off a American bulldog. Could some one please help me? His tall is docked but his hears don't stick up. Any features I need to be looking for to tell the difference of these two breeds would really appreciate it. Thanks again. Rox

you'd wanna look at the full grown weight differences, boxers dont achieve the weight an AMbulldog can, they're leaner, ribs should be visable, cheeks sag while in Ambulls its the lips, boxers generally have a longer tongue...could the dog be a mixture between the two? i would love to see a picture so i could determine myself

K, do you mean a "valley bulldog"?
they are mixed with an english bulldog and a boxer. "victorian bulldogs" are mixed with amstaff bullmastiff and english bulldog i believe

ok good, i didnt want you to get the wrong idea about the discussion, haha
but i know what ur saying now, and its true you really do have to watch those backyard breeders. Ask them for reffrences from previous buyers, registry documents, proof of pedigree perhaps, you can never really tell what you're buying these days by word of mouth.

And K, im not really having any problems on the boards. Im a member of http://www.Doggroups.com and their board runs the same way pretty much, you should check it out there alot of good discussions, picture contests and great friendly people. My name is also Taureau on that site 8) . The only problem i HAVE been having is that I submited a picture of my AMbull a couple weeks ago to the Breeds: Gallery and still havent gotten a reply it must have been at least 2 weeks ago i submitted...I was just wondering if you had any idea how often it gets updated? other than that there's some great info on the site that keeps me comin back :bday:

hope to talk to you soon K

Wow i didnt know they were also getting it by the AKC?...they are usually the harder ones to get things by seeing as they have more paperwork to get ur dog registered than other organizations :-?
