Guest Anonymous
Has anyone ever had a dog with cherry eye? There are two options to correct this: remove it or tack it. If you remove it, there is a chance they will develop dry eye which can result in lifelong treatment. If you tack it, there's a chance it will come "undone" and need to be done again. Tacking is more expensive and if you have to redo it the dog has to be put back under anesthesia which is always risky. I don't know what to do! Guest Anonymous
Visit http://www.blinddogs.com/, they also have a mailing list on Yahoo Groups - http://groups.yahoo.com search for 'blinddogs'. The people on this list are wonderful, give great support, advice, etc. And the website compliments it.

Guest Anonymous
I am a vet and I can tell you removing the cherry eye will not give your dog dry eyes at all.. I have done the operation lots and have never had anybody come back and say there dogs eyes are dry,but if you go with the other option you are going to have problams..Good luck in what you decide to do.
I suggest finding another vet with a better track record in successful replacement. Perhaps by a specialist in Veterinary Ophthalmology. You can if this does not work always remove the gland but you cannot put it back and dry eye is hard to deal with. I believe this may be an inherited problem - so do a spay or neuter while the other operation is being done! here's a site you may already have found http://www.flash.net/~anmleyz/cherry_eye.htm
