  1. yep, and after looking at that link Im convinced!
  2. Hey thanks.. I looked up the Komondor for more pics and Im pretty sure thats what it is, although this one wasnt groomed as 'pretty', it had more of a rugged manly look. Which makes sense for this neck of the woods...
  3. My B.F. and I went for a ride in the woods the other day and we drove past a cabin that had a dog out front of it. This was the biggest dog Ive ever seen in my life, it looked like it had to have been waaaay over 100 lbs although it was hard to tell with all the hair. It was all white with a massive head and it looked like it had dreadlocks! By far the most unusual looking dog Ive ever seen. Any clue what it might have been?
  4. I cant say if its a food issue or not, but Ive been feeding Chicken Soup to Hunter since hes been about 13 weeks old and he hasnt had any problems with it. Of course the vet raises her eyebrows about it because its not a large breed puppy food, but hes happy and healthy and developing just fine.
  5. If nuts are bad, would that make peanut butter bad too? I thought PB was a yummy treat for dogs.
  6. Hmmm... I noticed the other day that Hunters shampoo cost almost $9.00, I kinda giggled to myself when I thought about how mine costs under $2.00... Its funny how Ill buy him stuff and not bat an eyelash at the cost, but when I shop for me it better be on sale darn it or I dont want it!
  7. Thanks for the link and the info!
  8. I know the basic 'bad stuff' for dogs, like chocolate and milk, but what else is there human food wise that a dog shouldnt eat? I thought I remember hearing that potatoes were bad for dogs....not that I feed my dog people food, Im just curious.
  9. Hmm... I used it to cook ham n bean soup first...is that bad?
  10. Now this is probably a stupid question to all you vetran dog owners out there, but I gave Hunter a ham bone to gnaw on and to my horror he ate it. All of it. Im freaking out cause I thought dogs just chewed on them and maybe buried them. Hunters dad keeps reasurring me that dogs actually eat them and its perfectly fine, but it still doesnt sit well with me. Is this ok and will it pass thru fine or do I need to take him to the vet? Isnt this hard on his digestive system?
  11. yeah, thats another thing I was wondering about, if I could give pedialyte or gatorade or something to that nature like I did for my kids when they were babies and sick. Its funny how with my children I knew exactly what to do for them, but with my four legged one I just feel so clueless sometimes. Thank God for the internet, Ive learned more about raising a puppy than I ever thought I needed to know
  12. I live in a fairly small town, and in our small town we have a 'dog pound' where all the runaway dogs that get caught are sent to until their people come get them. Yesterday when I was in the area I stopped to take a look at a dog that was there cause I could hear him barking his head off. It was a beautiful black lab who had his head stuck thru a hole in the fencing. Now his head wasnt stuck, but the hole wasnt much bigger than his head and there was broken fence wires poking out that he can easily get hurt with, plus he was wearing a collar and Im concerned that the wire is going to get caught on his collar and choke him. Most of the 'kennels' are run down and holey like that. So Im very upset about the condition of this place and worried about the dogs that stay there, so I called the local humane society to inform them about this and the lady I talked to sure didnt seem very concerned about this and suggested I call our animal control/police dept and have them check it out. Well, its the weekend in a small town and guess what.. no ones around. Damn, I feel so powerless to be able to do anything until monday, and even then I have a feeling not much is going to change. If the humane society doesnt care whats going on, why should the police? Is there anyone else I can contact about this?
  13. Yay, Hunters feeling much better now. The only thing I can think of that might have upset his tummy so bad was a new treat we got for him called "Scooby Snacks". My youngest son is a big fan of Scooby Doo and thought they were the coolest thing ever. He only had 2, but after he got sick I read the ingredients (lesson learned!) and theyre made with some really nasty sounding stuff including plasma (is that normal in dog stuff?) and dyes. Yuck, that wouldve made me sick too.

    Food question

TDG~ thanks for alleviating my concerns, I appreciate the time you take to answer my questions on several of my posts!
  15. So I had to bring Hunter to the vets this A.M. because hes been vomiting and diarrhea since last night. She took xrays, no blockages, and the stool sample was normal, so she gave us Metronidazole to give him and said to put him on a bland diet for a few days, rice mixed with baby food for flavor. I had read on another post somewhere that pumpkin was good for diarrhea but he threw that up, and I recall reading something else to give but I cant remember what it is, yogurt seems to ring a bell. Any suggestions?

    Food question

Hunter loooves Chicken Soup for Dogs, however they dont make a large breed puppy food. Hes 4 mos old, Lab/Gsd x. Is it OK that hes eating adult dog food, and are there any nutrients that hes not getting by feeding him this that he needs as a growing puppy that I need to supplement? protein-24% min fat-14% min fiber-3.0% max moisture10% max sodium0.3% max selenium 0.4mg min vit E 300 IU min omega6 2.2% min omega3 0.4%min
  17. :o WOW! And I thought my neck o' the woods was beautiful...that is absolutely gorgeous! Im glad youre having good weather for your trip..have fun, be safe!
  18. Hes German Shepherd/ Yellow Lab, just turned 3 mos old and weighs 32 lbs. I asked the vet about giving him adult dog food and she said not to for a few months yet.
  19. When I first adopted him, he was being fed Iams and I switched him to Science Diet, right now hes on Chicken Soup but I need to find something else because he needs a large breed puppy formula and they dont make that.
  20. My puppy Hunter is 3 months old, and he has THE WORST gas I have ever smelled ( and I have 3 males in the house!) Its very frequent and fills up the entire room. Ive made changes in his dogfood thinking that might solve the problem, but it hasnt. Does anyone have any ideas or remedies for me? Thanks!
  21. LMAO~ pure marketing genious, but definetly would raise a few eyebrows and p**s off the moral majority in this country! Still laughing.... :roflt:
  22. Wow, you guys are an enormous wealth of information for new parents like me! Thank you so much for your advice, I really appreciate it!!
  23. Hi everyone~Im getting my puppy in 3 days. His foster mom feeds him Iams large breed puppy food, but from what Ive read, Iams isnt the best choice for him (or maybe Im wrong about that?) Any suggestions about a good brand to switch him to? (that wont break the bank) And how do I go about making the switch as far as mixing the brands (1/4 to 3/4 etc). Hes a 9 week old german shepherd/ yellow lab mix. Also, how old should he be before I switch to adult food? Thank for the help!
  24. Hi everyone! I'm new to this group although Ive been reading all the posts for a while. What a wealth of information you guys have! I'm about to become mom to a 9 week old German Shepherd/ Yellow Lab Mix boy on Sunday. I'm soooo excited, but very nervous too as this is my first puppy! So, I have a couple of questions for you all...I have 2 cats who have never seen a dog in their lives, whats going to be a good way to introduce our newest family member? Also, were driving about 5 hrs to pick him up, what should I bring with me to make it a good trip back? If anyone has any words of wisdom for me, please pass it along! I promise to post puppy pics once I figure out how. Thanks guys!
