1. JaquelineC..here is why she said the dogs all together.
I had all the dogs in the house because I was working on the stay command.
xavierandrea... Please see if there isn't any way to board Patti at your vets. 10 days is a long time to keep them separated without any accidents happening.
2. It's most likely a Rabies quarantine K. I'm very sorry for what you're going through xavierandrea :( Will the vet board her for the quarantine?
3.
Oh I remember how upset I was over that dog LisaH!! I'm so happy to hear he's doing well!
I know. I'm so glad things turned out well for him. He was such a good boy here. He must have felt like crap, but in true Pit Bull style, he grinned and buttwiggled the whole time he was here :D I can't remember whether I ever posted this one over at Graces. Amy sent me this one of him in his new home.
4. That's what I've heard. That merle Pit Bulls have something else in there-most likely Catahoula. Here's a merle that I pulled from a shelter last year. Don't be upset at the way he looks folks. These were taken the day I pulled him. He went on to a PBRC volunteer who fixed him up and he's doing great and in a wonderful home now. 5. Ahh..the dreaded poop strings. One of my Pit Bulls loses it when he gets one. Runs, looks behind him "What's that thing chasing me?? :o " Pretty funny to see a big ole 90lb Pit Bull run from a little poop. And he's learned to run over to me to help get the pesky thing off. If I'm lucky it falls off in transit. Actually, most of the time-it's my fault. I have really long hair and obviously the dogs manage to swallow some of it sometimes.
6. We always had dogs. We lived in a rural area on a dirt road and people constantly dumped dogs out at our house. So as a kid we had all kinds from Poodles to Labs. One day someone dumped a purebred Collie at our house and I fell in love with the breed. My ideal dog was big. I always wanted a Mastiff or Newf and I always wanted a Borzoi too. But about 9 years ago I got a call asking if I could take in a female Pit Bull whose owner had been arrested. I had been around Pit Bulls before and knew the hype was bullcrap. One of my boyfriends in Florida had a roommate that had a Pit Bull. And on and off through the years, I had been around others. So I wasn't really nervous about the breed. But-I was hesitant because I knew the breed had a tendency to be dog aggressive and I had my own dogs here as well as a couple of other rescues. But I set up a kennel and told them to bring her on. Before Peaches got here, I was imagining a huge, bulky, big headed thang. She was actually tiny! Little bitty thing with funky ears and big brown eyes. She was dog aggressive as well as cat aggressive, but I wasn't unprepared for that. It was her temperament towards people that won me over. Loved everybody. But-I still wasn't sold completely on the breed. Then after a couple of days, I noticed she was getting a little thick around the middle. I couldn't feel any puppies and neither could the vet-but I wasn't surprised when I went to the kennel one morning and there were 6 puppies in there. I was not happy. I knew screening Pit Bull adopters could be difficult and I knew all the wrong people would want one. I had no intentions of keeping any of them. And did actually interview people for all of them. But I noticed that I was paying a lot of attention to two of them. A big brown one and a little stubby rednose. And Peach and the brown one and the stubby rednose are still here 9 years later  Peach: Danny: Tank:
7. Happy Birthday Elmo!! :BIG: :new-bday: :smilecolros:
8. Many shelters down south are so inadequate they are barely able to keep the animals in-much less idiots out. I spoke to an animal control officer in South Carolina once whose shelter had been broken into numerous times. They kept coming in in the morning to find Pit Bulls moved around in the kennels and usually one or two missing. They finally realized that what the thieves were doing was putting different Pit Bulls together in kennels first to see which ones would fight and then stealing only those.
9. Ain't that the truth? Tank is dangerous when he gets the zoomies. Once in full view of the neighbors, he did his combination butt tuck and body slam on me. He hit me in the side of my knee and I swear it felt like I turned a complete flip in the air before landing. I saw stars. And of course, he started tromping all over me to add insult to injury.
10. Here's a "Mini Sheltie" I held over the winter for Sheltie rescue. And she was TINY. I had a Sheltie and this little girl was half his size. Teeny tiny little legs.
11. Ummm...Cygnet. Have you ever posted here as Primrose by any chance?
12. Yes-any dog can bite including Pit Bulls. But a stable Pit Bull should not bite a human. I also want to elaborate on a point another poster made. Many of these dogs are mixes. A Pit Bull mixed with a Rottie or a Neo can inherit the "protection" side of that particular breed. Which does explain why the dog does not have the correct Pit Bull temperament. But to the public and the media that does not matter. It's always a "Pit Bull" or "Pit Bull mix" How many times have you seen a Lab/Pit Bull cross described as a "Lab mix"? They are always "Pit Bull mixes" I saw someone mention defending one's yard as possibly a circumstance. But..Pit Bulls are not guard dogs-they should not have a guard dogs temperament. They should not display territoriality towards humans. Barking is not neccessarily a fault. But that should be it. The minute a person enters the yard or house, they should be open and friendly to that person. A Pit Bull with the correct temperament should greet everyone, even strangers in an open friendly manner. Why do you think they are so often stolen? It's because they will allow a complete stranger to enter their yard or home and pick them right up and carry them off. That is the first thing I look for when I go to evaluate or pick up a Pit Bull. I want the dog to immediately greet me (even though he has never seen me before) with a butt wiggle and a smile. I want him to tell me with his body language "Hey I don't know you, but I love you anyway!!" I want to be able to immediately walk in his yard or house and have him climb on my lap. I do get calls from people all the time that want a Pit Bull for protection. That is absolutely not what this breed was created for and they should not be used for that purpose. But for the sake of argument, let's even remove the point that a Pit Bull who bites is unstable. Let's look at it from this point of view... How many other breeds do you know of that can get banned entirely from a city for just one bite incident? Not many-but it can happen with Pit Bulls. It is not only that Pit Bulls SHOULDN'T bite. It's also that Pit Bulls cannot AFFORD to bite. A Pit Bull that bites someone can cause every Pit Bull owner in that city to lose their right to own the breed. We cannot take that chance. The whole breed is more important than any individual dog. Harsh? Yes. Sad? It's heartbreaking. Unfair? Absolutely. But we don't have the luxury of making excuses for biting Pit Bulls. They are a danger to not only the public, but to the continuation of the breed itself.
13. Nic and Lora are right guys. A Pit Bull that shows serious aggression towards a human for ANY reason has an unstable temperament. I have had a few calls over the years from people asking me to take a Pit Bull that has bitten someone. When I explain to them that this dog is unstable and should not be given away or adopted out, they screech "But he was abused!!" I am cursed at. Told I'm a unfeeling monster. That I don't love the breed, ectera ectera ectera. IT DOES NOT MATTER WHY THE DOG BIT SOMEONE. WHAT MATTERS IS HE DID. Other breeds may have the luxury of being excused for bad temperaments or past abuse. THIS breed does not. It is not correct temperament for the breed and it makes them dangerous. It is a HUGE liability as well as unethical to adopt out or give away a human aggressive Pit Bull. Like Nic said. You can do anything to these dogs and they should still not show human aggression. Pit Bulls have a very forgiving soul. I have seen it time and time again. They should always be willing to give humans a second chance-no matter how rotten the last human they knew was to them. The capacity this breed has to forgive and forget never ceases to amaze me. And that's the way they should be-no matter what has happened to them.
14. This is a pic of Jack-who just happened to find a hot pink magic marker under the couch one day.... Anyone else have any "been bad" pics?
15. I've stopped using the term "altered" when speaking to the gp. I am shocked that so many people don't know what "Is your dog altered" means. And how about when you ask if the dog has been tested for heartworms and they say. "He was wormed when he was a puppy" :-?
16. My nephew Josh torturing Danny...
17. My favorite is when they ask me if they can "reserve" an unaltered Pit Bull. Yes-I actually have people call me knowing I do rescue asking if they can get a Pit Bull that hasn't been neutered or spayed yet. I had a Grandmother call once. Her grandson had just moved up here from Georgia to live with her and had had to leave his breeding pair there. She wanted to get him another breeding pair for his birthday. Those kinds of calls make me want to... :drinking:

21. Aww...cute Pit Bulls! Welcome! :D
22. Oops..forgot to post a disclaimer. Please disregard those little....things. They and Danny parted ways a looong time ago. My Pit Bulls were backyard bred by an idiot so they were altered and were never used for breeding.
23. And now dammit  Here's my cute pic of the day
24. I've only been bitten three times in my life. All three times it was Dachshunds that bit me
