Guest Anonymous Posted June 17, 2002 Posted June 17, 2002 :D I own a bull boxer and yes this is actually a breed. she is a cross between an APBT and a boxer. both amazing breeds. It is good to see so many people taking up for them www.geocities.com/bull_boxers579 Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted June 18, 2002 Posted June 18, 2002 This is not a breed unless you consider a mutt/mix a 'BREED'. Having a website and pictures does not constitue a breed. I sure they make great pets and what not. But, this Tripp guy doesnt even know what type of BULL breed to use. Ask him what he uses for the breedings? His site says any type of BULL breed mixed with a boxer. Does he know that there more than 2 types of Bull types out there? English Bulldog, French Bulldog, Bull Terrier, American Bulldog, ect. the list goes on. Or has he changed the standard again?. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted June 18, 2002 Posted June 18, 2002 ok, first of all his website and mine both say that it is a cross between and APBT and boxer or an AMSTAFF and boxer. so in that aspect you were wrong. If you don't think my dog is an actual breed then you are wrong, because to me it is a breed and I put this breed above any other breed. I would recommend this breed to anyone and there are a lot of people who agree. I wasn't even trying to start some crap like this I was just saying how great it was that the pit bull was losing that bad rep. You didn't have to be such a jerk about it :x Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted June 18, 2002 Posted June 18, 2002 Sorry but I totally agree with under dog. What you have there is not a 'Breed' but a mongrel or cross breed. To be a Breed your dog would have to be KC reg. Also I don't think mongrels have a breed standard. The Pit bull Terrier & the American staffordshire terrier are totally different breeds anyway. Quote
GizmoRedNosePit Posted June 18, 2002 Posted June 18, 2002 I personally have no problem with your type of breed.....every dog is it's own....just because the UKC and the other rule the world of dogs...doesn't mean that if they dont approve of it then it's not a breed.... I love mixed breeds.....how did they make the american pitbull tell me that!! They bred two dogs to make this breed....so the bull boxers isn't good enoguh for any of you? If I was lucky enoguh to get this breed I would be very, Very, VEry, VERy, VERY happy to have it! :D Quote

A lot of breeds were created by cross breeding. without that we would not have but a handfull of breeds. I love my dog and to me no matter what other people say she is a true breed. I am sure other breeds had the same problems. Before a breed can be registered with the AKC they have to be quite popular and there have to be enough of them. So right now we may not have accomplished our goal, but as long as I am able I will try to get my BREED recognized. I am glad some one else on this board thinks this breed is good enough. Thank you very very much :D Quote

It takes generations of pure breeding to a breed standard with no crossing to other breeds before AKC will even consider a breed as a purebred. That means your first generation cross is not a breed its a mix. That you love your pet is fine. I hope you will train the dog properly and responsibly spay or neuter it. I'm just sorry you probably paid a lot of money for a pup that is so common a mix of dog breeds that you could easily have found a pup to adopt just like it in a shelter in most any part of this country scheduled to die because no one will adopt it. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted June 19, 2002 Posted June 19, 2002 Mixed breeds come in all different shapes & sizes so therefore I can't see how you can have a breed standard for a cross bred dog. You have 1 standard for Boxers, 1 for pit bulls & 1 for am staffs. You cannot take all 3 standards & make up your own. & yes I agree I would not put any of my pedigree Staffords to anything but a pedigree Stafford. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted June 19, 2002 Posted June 19, 2002 I know a lady who bought what she thought was a pure bred stafford for Quote

Well you *can* but its a question whether you should or whether you should bilk people out of money claiming the dogs are purebred before you've done 6 or more generations of purely breeding the crosses to each other to perfect your ideal of the standard type you were going for :-) AND gotten it consistently with no throwbacks to one of the founding types and no health problems and... well like I said people *can* but its a matter of honesty which seems pretty lacking in the breeder here. Guest Anonymous Posted June 19, 2002 Posted June 19, 2002 This post was not suppose to turn out like this at all.....Ok I never said I was going to charge $400 a puppy or anythign like that. I was planning on breeding several times, before claiming that these dogs were pure breed. and you are right I can do what ever I want, but I will not be dishonest. My father is a preacher and I do not believe in being dishonest. I do plan on being a very responsible breeder. I will bo one of the ones who will follow the dog for it whole life. If someone gets one of my puppies and something happens 5 or 10 years down the road I will be there returns are always accepted here!!! This dogs are not a money making deal to me they are sweet loveable animals and I love them like children (makes it hard to allow them to go) I am not doing it for the money I am doing it in hopes to make someone eles life better for knowing the joy of an amazing breed of dog Quote

Guest Anonymous Posted June 19, 2002 Posted June 19, 2002 I am very careful researching any dogs that I plan to breed with mine. I will not have her fixed. I am going to find the dog with the closest temperment and attitude to hers. I do know what I am doing even though people act like I don't. The thing about trying to place rescue dogs is, you never know how things will work out..what if the dog you place doesnt work out or maybe it bites the owners child. then I would feel responsible for the situation. Some of the dogs that have to be rescued in the first place have been through so much that they dont like people or trust is a better word. so that makes them hard to place. People just need to treat all animals with respect and take care of there dogs. why get one in the first place if you are going to not take care of it. Quote

People just need to treat all animals with respect and take care of there dogs. why get one in the first place if you are going to not take care of it. Well lets see, your dog was so valueless the breeder gave it to you for free to get rid of it. Now you say you plan to do a lot of breeding for no particular reason except making pups as your dog is a mixbred you don't have any clue how her pups will turn out or if they will go into homes that are suitable for them. ie they will end up just like the dogs you claim are unreliable and not worth bothering with that are in the pound. Who will you be giving your pups to? Let me assure you your pups have no better chance at finding good owners than any other mixes do. In fact 70 percent of all dogs do NOT stay in their first home. Thats pretty slim odds for any pups let alone a mix. Responsible breeders and rescuers are willing to take back every single dog they place or produce for life. Are you? I feel you are not taking care of your dog by planning to breed it. Do you know intact females die younger than spayed ones? Do you know with each pregnancy you risk your dog dying from complications? Are you prepared for c-sections? mastitis? ecclampsia? and all the medical bills a litter comes with? Do you have any idea what health problems your dog should be tested for before breeding? and which ones the prospective stud dog should also have? Do you plan on keeping all the pups if you cannot find good lifetime homes for them? Because of your dog's mixed heritage you have no way to predict how any pups of hers will turn out. If you breed her to another mix bred dog that lowers the odds even more for having any assurance as to what you will get. Even with purebred dogs I tell people if they want another dog like the one they have they should go back to the breeder and look for one for a repeat breeding. I understand that you love your dog - I just don't understand that you can say that and then say you want to breed her. People who love their pets want them with them as long as possible. Spayed and neutered dogs live longer than intact breeding animals do. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted June 21, 2002 Posted June 21, 2002 'bullboxer' Do You know if the parents of your dog are pure bred? Even if you think they are would you know about your dogs Grandparents? You may have alot more than Boxers or any of the bull breeds in your dogs lines! Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted June 23, 2002 Posted June 23, 2002 I never said my dog was valueless. Infact the woman was selling the dogs for quite a bit of money, I said she gave it to my daughter. I was going to pay here, but she said my daughter was just so cute she couldn't resist letting her have the puppy so....Now you can say whatever you want about my breeding my dog, frankly I don't care about your opionon. I do know what I am doing. I have been involved in more breeding than you think I have, and I have spent teh last 2 years just studying and researching this type of thing. I also spent quite a bit of that time researching breeds. So despite what you think I do know what I am doing. and I already said no matter what I would take back any dog that I placed if it didn't work out. Besides that I already have several homes lined up for puppies. Again I say I do know what I am doing!!!!! now to answer another question asked of me yes I do know about my pups parents and grandparents and way on down the line before her. I saw the papers of 3 generations before her. They were purebreed and registered there were not any mixes anywhere. So as for that I do know what blood lines are in my dog. Like I have said before I am not stupid I do know what I am doing. Quote

You even have shown you do not know what a purebred dog is. Sounds to me like you plan to breed your dog to death to make money and are proud your daughter weaseled a free mutt pup out of a breeder who claimed they were making big bucks breeding them so that you could do the same thing. That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. Your statements make a good argument for the mandatory licensing and prequalifications of breeders. You claim you want to breed your dog to make someone else's life better for knowing the joy of an amazing breed of dog. You have a mutt. All puppies will be a mutt. And there is nothing you can do to change this. A mutt is a mutt. There is nothing wrong with owning a mutt and loving him. But if you think you yourself are going to invent a new breed....that's delusional. You can tell yourself all you want how knowledgeable and responsible you think you are...but no one who has any knowledge of breeding, standards and genetics is going to agree with you. This is not even a difference of opinion. This is nuts. Quote
Guest roo Posted June 23, 2002 Posted June 23, 2002 I must agree totally and utterly with the two above posts, breeding dogs as a hobby is for the betterment of the breed, that means breeding to the standard, (Do you have a breed standard) You and you alone are and will be held responsible for what you breed and sell, are you prepared for this? Have you the time the money and the energy to whelp, rear and find SUITABLE homes for these babies, what of breed problems, you say you have researched the apparent breed, what of the problems in both? you have A 3 GENERATION pedigree. your dog is not a pedigree, you have a family tree, that tells you nothing it is names on a bit of paper, do you know of anything that they may have had wrong with them? Have you seen them, or if you have are they all at the address of where you got yours from? As to being given the pup because your daughter was sweet, Well, all i can see here is that she could not get rid of the pups quick enough. please please see some sort of reason and logic as to what you are about to undertake. If you decide to do it anyway, fine thats up to you. but be aware its not all an easy ride, the cost of rearing the pups especially is anything happens can far outway what you think you are going to make on it. :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( Think about it and if still sure...... be prepared for all eventualitys Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted June 25, 2002 Posted June 25, 2002 All pedigreed dogs at one time did come from an out crossing of 2 different breeds. Some of this is still going on today, but it is being done by experts who have scientific knowlege of genetics, have for years researched the backgrounds/pedigrees of the dogs they are using. and it takes years of generations before any dog from these "experiements" to be called a purebreed. To say a dog is AKC registered does not make an excellent specimen of the breed. AKC can and does register any pups who have AKC registered parents of the same breed, i.e., a boxer w/a long nose, bad bite, bad rear (totally not conforming to breed standard) can be bred to another poorly bred boxer, and the resulting pups can be registered as AKC although they barely look like a boxer. You need to research pedigrees, make sure there are at least several champions in the 4 generation pedigree (especially 2nd and 1st). No because a dog has many champions in the pedigree does not ensure a perfect dog, but these dogs cannot be champions if they do not come close to breed standards. The term "champion bloodlines" means absolutely nothering. Quote
