Court, I'm sorry this is all happening to you and that poor Pittie. I'm REALLY glad that doggie came to you, insted of someone who might hurt him. Please update us soon.

I just got the worst news. My Aunt Barbra's dog got hit by a car, and was killed. She tryed to was putting his leash on, and he got loose and ran into the street. He was a lab. Her other dog is really depressed now.
Exactly what happens when you let him off leash when he's inside? Have you even tried it yet? Is he housebroken?
He's good for a while. He gets very excited if someone he doesn't see often comes along. But when I try to put his leash back on, he might give a growling sound, or nip. I'm not sure if he's housebroken. He'll go outside, and he has not had an "accident" yet, but who nows?

Still reading, but I love your posts everyone. Its good to know these so I won;t make them, and its good to know I'm not the only one.
she wasn't crate training at the time.
Right. Now I'm crate training. I also need to have him in nearly all the time I'm home. So I need tips on getting him to behave inside, because he'll be in alot.

Okay, summers here. Its burning hot. I love warm weather, but not with an outdoor dog. He is allowed in three rooms on leash so far, and he is starting crate traing. I need tips for crate training and getting him to behave inside. Help!

Guys, I love your anwsers. About K, yes, I think she made them in the past, and less now. I agree with that. Keep going guys. :D :D

I was just wondering, some say they have never made a mistake with their dogs. It may be true. (Wanted to say sorry to K, that I doubted her without proof, if she can forgive me) I just wanted to say I have made many. (Please remember I am new a puppy parenting) Caeser got loose (but we caught him in three minutes) he messed up lots of things, swallowed some not so good stuff, and even got in the trash can. :o I don't feel like a bad mom saying this, because I know that each mistake makes me a better dog owner. I learn from those mistakes. If you have made any, please feel free to admit it. How do you feel about other's making it, if you haven't (or even if you have)?
-
I can see I upset you all. I'm not going to try to explain any farther on how I feel about this, seeing as it won't do any good. Have a nice day, everyone.
It's very possible to not have had any of the accidents K refered to! I can count on less than one hand the number of times I've had a loose dog. I've had unaltered dogs live together for years with no accidental litters...notta one.
I understand that, I mean we haven't had that kind of mistake eithier. But I mean she sounded like she makes NO mistakes. No nipping, no mistake in general with dogs.
-
I give him a tap on the nose, with a loud, NO.
-
Thanks you guys! :D *hugs* He nipped once when he didn't want to have his leash put on, but that was it. I think he's getting better. I'll keep working with it, and update you again.
-
The harsh tone, and the way she says she has never made a mistake. What a lie. Everyone makes mistakes, especially with dogs.
-
Update: Okay, I make him sit for his food and water, sit and stay before he comes on the couch, sit and stay before we go and a walk, and lay down for a bone. That's all so far. No nipping so far! :D
kittygirl, perhaps you shouldn't comment on something you know nothing about.
I read this whole thread. I have to admit I didn't like all of Crystal posts, but K's really...
-
I happened to think her posts were very rude. Crystal is having a problem here, why make it worse?
-
I'm gonna try NILIF. I'll let you guys know how it goes. :D
-
I'm still reading. I'm on page three, and I may add another post, but I must say... :o K, you are being extremely harsh. I have a dog that doesn't give me time to breath. I love him. All I have to say is.. Crystal, Toby needs more time. I have had Caeser for 8 months and I feel like I just got him.

:bad-words: :evilbat: :grab:  :eek2: :eek3: :diablotin: :bigcry: :peace: :madgo:
-
We don't know of a behaviorlist here. I'll search for NILIF on google, but they only give a few examples. Please tell me more about the method.
-
Thanks, CE. I'll see how he is tomorow. If he's still not better, I'll take the advice.

Personally, I feel its as bad as declawing for a cat. Its unnatural. Its like cutting a person's vocal cords so they couldn't talk, except for a whisper. (Hmmm...maybe I should do that for my brother...*just teasing*) Its just cruel. Train them to bark less. Its just pure laziness(sp?).
-
How cute! :)
-
Update: I rubbed Caeser's belly, and he seemed to enjoy it, so I don't think it was something he ate. We trained for awhile, and he was a little nippy, so it might be behavioral. We watched part of a movie together, and he was fine there, so...

I'll talk to my parents about it. I went on a very short walk though, and I think maybe he was upset because he didn't want to go back. Maybe it was a leader of the pack thing. What do you think?
