1. thanks for the tape trick! i will start with georgia soon! too cute!!!
2. i am an absolute irish setter lover! i met one when I was a little girl and from that day I have always dreamed of owning one. I live in an apartment now but the day I move into a house I am going to look for one! In my opinion they are the most beautiful breed! GEORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
3. My suggestion is to call a rescue group or your shelter and see if they need Foster parents. Then you can live with the dog for a bit and see how they fit in with your family. It shouldn't take long before you fall in love with one~
4. Mommacat - how do you do the paw on nose trick? I've got a 13 week old baby too. She can sit lie down and roll over... she's a bit to spazzy to learn how to play dead .. I think... we're trying to think of new tricks ..
5. I'm curious, Ferky, on how things are going now. My pup (chi-pom-poo) is like this. We've had her for 2 weeks and last night she finally cuddled on my lap and fell asleep. I was in shock!! She's usually way too excited to sit and be petted or cuddle with me. I had a springer spaniel puppy and she was such a cuddler from DAY 1. she also would sleep through anything we'd pick her up and put her in another spot just to confuse her but Georgia perks up if she hears the slightest squeek on the floor. She's too alert!! I think she will calm down after a while and settle in - but that is good advice about not cuddling and pawing at her too much . I'm sure I'm guilty of that
6. she's a chihuahua/pomeranian/poodle mix and she's so small even the small kong that i have seen at the pet store looks to big for her!! maybe they make mini ones I'll have to keep looking. we got her one of those treat balls where the treats come out when you roll it -- well she can barely roll it over its so cute ! she seems to have given up on that. I'm going to try some hiding games but her attention span is VERY short. maybe that would help though. She can sit and lie down (I'm so proud) but I am going to try new tricks. Its so cute I've noticed that everytime I say "good girl" she automatically sits and looks at me. She loves liver treats! Thanks for the suggestions!!1
7. the is some kind of spray called wee spray or something silly like that ask for it at the pet store. apparently it smells like pee and you can spray it on the pads to get your dog to go there. i haven't tried this but we use the puppy pads and georgia goes on them most of the time - every once in a while she goes outside it but i figure that's just bound to happen.
8. I also meant to say that Georgia had the same symptoms - mucus and blood in her runny stools (not so fun when she's not house trained ) but she had no other symptoms - just that. (oh and her stomach makes some CRAZY noises!!)
9. i just wrote this responding to someone else:
My puppy had bad diarrhea and we found out it was Giardia - and I was reading about this and all the articles I read say it is kind of difficult to detect and also is thought to be something else. And as well it is very hard to get rid of since the little giardia cysts can hang out for a couple of weeks if you don't sanitize everything or if the dog keeps rolling around in the same park/yard or drinking from the same water (pond or stream - something like that). Your dog probably has been tested for this but maybe not!
Giardia is known for coming back again and again. I found a website that listed some homeopathic remedies.. 1) - Oxydrops - kills bacteria/fungus/protozoa/virus but not good bacteria in the gut. 2) - BacPacPlus - Fortified with Yucca - to reestablish the intestinal flora and a healthy mucosal lining of the gut which is uninviting to Giardia. 3) - MSM - Nutritional Sulfur - this makes an environment were Giardia does not like to live and grow, as stated in the Patent research on MSM http://www.filadog.com/giardia.htm maybe this will be helpful - good luck

11. We want to try to train Georgia to do this. I read somewhere everytime you go outside to make a big production about ringing the bell and pretty soon they will want to join in on the fun and start relating that to go outside.
12. I found a great article on biting http://www.shirleychong.com/keepers/archives/bite.txt tell me what you think

Dogs

my parents had a doberman when I was little and she was gorgeous, gentle and very loyal. I could see how she might have become too protective but thankfully I don't think she did. I love dobermans so that would be my suggestion out of that group.

Toes Biting :(

my little girl loves biting feet and ankles - i spray "bitter apple" on my feet and she doesn't go near them!
