1. forgot to mention that Pushycat is such a.......... BIG pushycat
2. Coutnek, I kept checking to see your babys' pictures. freebee is soooooo beautiful...
3. Hippo gave her dad a kiss on the nose for father's day
4. Just 1 dog... Name: Hippo Breed: Shar-pei Age: 9 months
5. I was thinking that what you need is not somebody to be in the house with Cosmic for th whole time you're gone, but just a teen who loves dogs and who can take Cosmic out for a one-hour walk. And if you walk him before you leave and after you come back, he should be fine... I wouldn't get another dog just because of the way your mom is... And I wouldn't talk to her more either, since it doesn't ever amount to anything else but you feeling miserable...
6. I love the uncropped look too :D especially the lond curly tail
7. What many people don't know about Shar-pei is that the look can be quite different depending on the lines they come from: some have less wrinkles (like mine), others keep wrinkles all over their body into adulthood. Puppies aren't wrinkly when born, but they start growing their skin around 2 weeks. Then they're very very wrinkly and cute, and some people get "the doggie in the window" without realizing that the adorable wrinkle balls grow into their skin somehow and some Pei reach 50-60lb! Also, there are mini Shar-pei (16-18 inches), but they are not officially recognized. The standard says 18-20 inches. And one last thing... apparently, they have good guarding instincts. Hipppo doesn't know that though  because we've never encouraged her to bark or guard anything. I've been told that she's just a Golden in disguise :P
8. Hmmm... I just read your post, and in your case, I'd do away with the "dog no sleeping in bed" rule :D Let's just hope that somebody on the forum has some more useful suggestions than mine  apropos of my suggestion, there is a Romanian saying--"do as the preacher does, not as the preacher preaches" and this is what the preacher does... that's me sleeping under Hippo's paws!
9. First thing: I don't have any experience with this... but fom what I've read, it sounds to me like Abby is dominant not only with Cracker--a simple "no" or "stop it" from you didn't stop her behaviour, did it? So I think you shouldn't allow her in bed with you anymore so that she understands that sheis not your equal, you are always right, she must always obey you immediately, and only humans distribute food, SHE DOESN'T! Other than that, I can't offer much advice, because as I said, I didn't deal personally with this problem. But some other people here might be of more help... Good luck to you.
10. Can I ask why didn't you have her sapyed before this happenned? Did you get her doggy pads to wear now? Are you keeping her away from any dogs, and keeping an eye on her all the time? Watch for it: dogs in the neibourhood will find their way into your yard, and she'll find her way out even if she never did it before. So DO NOt let her alone outside even for a minute! AND GET HER SPAYED!
11. Yes, I actually think it's a good idea to teach your dog to be ok when left on his own. Other people may disagree with me, but... Of course, no dog should be left alone for 10 hours a day, but a few hours only teach your dog that when you're out of the house, he shouldn't start barking and destroying everything in sight! Always walk your dog before you leave him, so that he'll be tired and happy to be left alone to sleep in peace. And I think you should probably start leaving him alone for short periods of time first, and then make them longer--so start leaving him alone for 10-15 minutes after the first week... It's gonna be tough--my pup cried and barked at first and I'd start crying that I had to leave her... But now she has absolutely no complaints, she just sleeps for the whole time we're gone, so that she's ready for going to the park again when we come back
12. First of all, I'm soooo happy for you that you found this good vet and Frontline :D The idiot vet doesn't seem to know what she's doing, so I don't think you should go! I've never heard of medicine put in jars with no labels :o :o Good thing you stopped using them. I think it's ok to stop pretty much the adiministartion of any med as long as it's not antibiotics... As for the follow-up injection--I think it's best you give the (idiot) vet a call and ask the name of what she injected Rowie with. You write it down, and then research it on the net, or bring it over to us to see if a follow-up is absolutely necessary. I'm happy to hear your granpa's leaving soon and Rowie'll be a house spoilt dog again
13. Yep, abker, Hippo burps  Not as much as when she was a baby, but still... And she doesn't fart much but when it happens she always turns and smells her bum and she looks very confused
14. Hippo's sending a big (and slobbery) hug to Rowie. We hope you guys will be better soon. It sounds like you're doing all the right things to help Rowie and that's wonderful. Keep us posted...
15. Poor guy, that sure is an odd look
16.
The vet (who didn't give her the vaccine -- I did, with the help of someone else in my rescue group) says it doesn't sound like she got it from the vaccine, because it normally takes longer for it to develop. He said it takes about a month; we gave her the vaccine almost two weeks ago. They think that she may have been exposed to bordetella before her vac, which I think is possible but unlikely. Poor baby girl.
My vet wasn't in favour of the "reaction to the vaccine" answer either. But considering that my pup didn't meet other dogs before her vaccination, I can't see what else could have happenned. Anyway, it doesn't really matter to me why it happenned as long as the cough could be gotten under control... I hope your baby will be better soon too.
17. you're an evil person, making people open picture threads with no pictures
18. Can't enter this contest, as Pei couldn't compete in shiny coats with labs or staffies... But I'll be waiting for a new one :D
19.
Yes, and I know dogs who have contracted kennel cough despite being vaccinated for it. One dog in particular had kc for almost a year after the vac. I won't give my dogs the bordatella vac. because i feel its not necessary for a healthy dog. I know its usually a requirement for those who board their dogs in kennels.
yes, my pup developed kennel cough right after her vaccine--it sounded horrible and she had to be put on antibiotics
20. I have a shar-pei, and absolutely adore the breed, so I can't imagine ever being without a Pei again. Other breeds I like: bull mastiff, blood hound, basset hound, staffie...
21. Yes, Rowie, keep at it, it sound to me like you're trying all that you can. Because there are so many ticks in your area, even after you disinfect the yard, and Rowie, I think you'd still need to order off the intrenet (or from a catalogue) one of the preventives--so that you and Rowie don't go through this again. And before you order, ask the vet if Frontline (which seems to be good against ticks) can be applied on Rowie in her condition... If not, then what else does s/he recommend? Good luck with everything.
22. Sorry the evil ticks are back  I don't think you should go to your aunt's now because Rowie has scabs and many substances shouldn't be put on open sores, scabs, etc. Can you call the vet's place and ask them how come the ticks are back, and what should you do--that is, what can you use on Rowie to get rid of them? I'm sorry I can't really help... But maybe somebody else will know better.
23. Geezz... I can't believe I have to stink like shampoo now when I had on a perfectly fine "dead fish" smell (and I worked so hard to get it!) 24. Glad Rowie's better--and I'd really like to see naked pictures
