1. hey guys..i was doing some searches and found this site. sled dogs in alaska are starving to death due to a salmon shortage, and owners are resorting to shooting their dogs as opposed to watching them starve to death. purina has shipped in food, but it is no where near enough...you can make donations. i made mine....if your interested follow this link: http://abcnews.go.com/onair/WorldNewsTonight/wnt001023_sled_dogs_feature.html
2. o.k. oprah doesn't even deserve to be called a bitch...just an opinion. she went on this rant about how to "correctly train dogs"...nevermind her pooches probably go to professional trainers so she wouldn't know anything about it!! last week she spent $350 on a polka dot sweater for her dog..wish i had that money to burn. o.k. i'm sure you're all losing me now (get back to the point, mcobbin) anyway, as part of her "campaign to educate dog owners" she said never...EVER should a dog be allowed to sleep in the bed with its owner. according to oprah, doing so would make the dog feel that its status in the pack was equal to the owner, and would almost certainly lead to agression towards the owners. mmmmmm-kaaaay  the only time wanker doesn't sleep with us is when mommy & daddy need "special time" and he's never gotten too big for HIS paws. anyway...rant over.
3. i know!!! i know!!! :o i'm REALLY late on this one, but it doesn't sound like your situation would change in a couple of weeks!! just a funny story...and i can sympathize. i had a chow mix named bailey that i got from the shelter in jonesboro when i first moved here. i don't know what happened to him during his life, but he barked every second that he was outside. not just barking...high-pitched someone-please-tear-out-my-eardrums- yipping. when he was indoors though, not a peep. i only let him out for an hour a day on a runline, and i had two of the crabbiest old codgers in the history of youth hating history living right next door. and i couldn't even mow my lawn without him coming over to tell me how the next time bailey even peeped, he was calling the police and filing a noise ordinance on me. well, i thought the old fart was just a blowhard, but the day finally came, (incidentally, bailey hadn't even been out yet, and hadn't been barking). anyway, the police showed up, their cocky little blue lights blaring in my window. so they said "ma'am, your neighbor here's called us about the noise pollution from your dog" i said, well, aside from having his vocal cords removed, there's not a lot i can do, i just got him, and he hasn't adjusted, and i just started training him." then the police officer said "well, we realize that it's not you, it's your dog." so i said "so, really BAILEY is the one in trouble?!?! "Yes ma'am, i suppose so"....so i told the cop that he could cuff bailey and take him downtown, but that he'd be hard to pawprint, and i wouldn't post bail!!!" he smiled, went to the neighbor, who consequently had been staring greedily out of his window the whole time to personally witness me get in trouble. cop told old man to leave me alone, and save the phone calls to the Police department for real emergancies!!! never had anymore trouble!! you could always get your neighbor in trouble for fraudulently attempting to claim part of your property...you know that once a fence line is made, even if you own the land it has been placed on, if you let it remain there for a certain number of years, your neighbor could claim that little sliver of land by default? at least that can happen in ark.!!
4. sorry, i just saw the first post...have you taken george to the vets to see if this is hormonal or if he has some sort of medical condition that may be causing aggression? is this sudden, or has he ever had these tendencies before? have there been any drastic changes in the household lately? sometimes a good vet can even recognize that "bad" behavior is being caused by an imbalance in something as simple as vitamin levels!! are you opposed to training? or have you tried that already? i can understand your fear of liability should george make good on his threats, but you need to check your options first before taking such drastic measures. at the very least...take him to the vet for a chekup before you take him in for gas!! someone here may have better advice for you...sorry, i'm not the most knowledgeable person here for aggression problems!!
5. first of all, am i missing a previous post? why is hubby taking him in for PTS??
6. ok...i just went to that link...and i'm going to be sick....as the proud owner of horses all my life, the only thing anyone could ever accuse me of is OVERfeeding my horses. my dad and i rescued Spike when he was two...we saw him in a 10x10 lot with no food, and a bathtub with an inch of frozen water in it. it was december, and cold, and he was catching the dead oak leaves rolling into his pen and EATING them!! my dad showed his true colors that day.....he actually gave the guy our CAR for the horse because the man said he wouldn't take a check! he was 2 years old, and my dad and i were able to PICK HIM UP and set him in the horse trailer!!! when you said their hooves were curled up, i was thinking ok, that can be fixed.....then i saw the pictures!!! :o :o those hooves are so distorted, they can never be truly fixed....for hooves to curl that far, the ankle bones would already be distorted and the white walls would have fallen by now!!! even trimming the hooves will never allow those horses to support a human rider ever again!! and those hooves look like founder....which means those poor creatures had to have been eating weeds poisonous to horses to survive!! i'm so mad right now i could spit in these people's faces

16. to HnDMarshall: i'm not in the business if starting beefs with people old or new. if you read most of my posts, you'll see that i usually just leave all this fun to the big guns. i didn't mean to offend, i was just making an observation. i've only been on this site for a few months, but i've read all of the backlogged forum discussions, and HAVE noticed that whenever we question someone, they tend to tell us what we want to hear. not that its our business, but many of us do tend to cringe at the thought of a new breed when there are many wonderful "companion" breeds sitting in shelters just waiting for someone to want them. i realize though that this is not a "new" breed...just a revamp of a pre-existing one. something in me wonders why it fell out of breeding in the first place. and don't get me wrong....i'm not questioning your right to do whatever you see fit to ensure that this breed gets reintroduced and thrives....i am not qualified to make any judgements. and it IS a free country. what you choose to do IS your right. and my post was not meant to question your integrity as a breeder. you seem to know quite a bit about this breed, and that wouldn't be so if you didn't care enough about the breed to do your research. as a matter of facct, i'm sure that you've made yourself quite knowledgeable on all aspects of the breed, the breed requirements, registering requirements, etc. and frankly, i cannot, with a clear conscience, even dislike those who breed mixes, as my own lovely baby is the result of a botched mix breeding, and i wouldn't trade him for the world. :) and i do feel a bit humbled this morning reading this reply, when i realize that i am always one to say "the people on this forum always seem fair"....perhaps i am guilty of giving you a rough time...but like i said, it often seems that whenever someone is questioned, they do tend to say exactly what "seems right". but, like roo said,...who am i to question anyone's integrity....no one really. i used to help my dad purify the bloodlines of the dogs he raises, but i haven't bred a dog in 7 years!! i probably don't even know the standards any longer. so...long story long, i will quietly sit in my corner and thrust my fork deeply in the humble pie i just baked. i look forward to reading all the new posts each day, and am always excited to see new posters...i hope that my words haven't shed poorly on my fellow dogo posters.......like roo said:
we are all members of this forum, we all have different opinions, views, ethics etc.
i hope that you do not mistake MY opinion as a reflection of the opinions of everyone here, as i'm sure that there are members here who would not agree with me!!! FURTHERMORE (she says as she flosses bits of her own foot from her mouth)...i hope that i have not contradicted myself too greatly.....the people here are great, and generally  do not make a habit of "attacking" new members......i'm sorry to say that i may have.
17. does anyone else notice that whenever we question someone's breeding integrity, by saying something like oh....i don't know.....
18 months doesn't even guarantee that the dog will be able to pass its OFAs......anything less than AT LEAST 2 years is unconscionable. In no way is 18 months a "basic guarantee", at least not in the realm outside of BYB.
the breeder in question always seems to magically have some reply that tells us EXACTLY what we WANT to hear? usually starting it with something like.....oh.....
here are some inserts from my contract................
no? no one else notices this??? maybe it's just me.....

Dog pregnancy.

no news yet? i just saw this post and read it, and i'm already all nerves wanting the final outcome. and getting off the subject too.... my dad once had a bitch that had great papers and background, and he tried to breed her probably 10 times. he even drove to louisiana to get her bred to the top night champion stud that year!! she just would not stick!! but she wanted puppies very badly....she would even STEAL other babies!! she'd steal other bitch's puppies, kittens, anything baby she could get her paws on...she'd even make milk :o :o !!! well, he met with a man in missouri and bred her and it stuck....she got big, we were even worried for a while that the litter was going to be 10+ judging by her belly size. she made milk, her teats dropped....we were READY for some puppies. the big day came, we put her in her whelping box, she went into labour, and..... ALL WATER!!! she was in labour for about 2 hours and all she ever managed to do was pass about 1 and a half gallons of water!! so i am a FIRM believer in hysterical pregnancy!
19. how old is kato again? we used to have a colt that would follow the others around in the pasture just WAITING for another horse to poop so he could gobble it up :o . we called the large animal vet out, and he said it was one of those things they can just grow out of. we waited around, and sure enough, in about 4 months, he just stopped!! yeah...ummm.. that was about a horse though... nevermind
20. YES...wait....NO......wait...i want to change my answer...maybe? oh, i know!!! C i choose C!!...wait...what was the question again????? :o ooooh...i know.....PASS i refuse to answer a question that may incriminate me? Does anyone else feel like pleading the 5th on this??? :drinking:

24.
I think I'm still scared of Dachsunds! Hmmm...I just don't know what I really think. What a terrible thing to happen.
ha ha ha!! i actually AM scared of dachsunds :o a car lot owner had his dogs on site and unsupervised and as i was perusing the newest model of fords, he took a 2 inch deep and two inch wide plug out of my leg!! seriously though, i agree with everyone: 1. the kid was too young to be in a playpen :o 2. the parents should never have left him alone with a dog that hasn't had more than 6 weeks to get used to the new addition to the family. 3. the dog should NOT be a babysitter 4. and the dog should have been placed in a home without babies
25.   peshaw.....update: she's doing great, and she actually seems able to get around more now than when she was living with her old owner. Amy put her on glucosamine and condroitin, and lets her out to run around in the field for about two hours everyday...she seems really happy. i wasn't sure how she'd adjust to the knew owner after all these years, but she is just a regular member of the family now!! :)
