Luka's breed

Good eye Marble - you're right he does look "boxerish"...could be some Boxer in there Luka... send us his "specs" (sorry, been around computers too long) maybe someone else could be more definitive So far, possibly lab, possibly pointer and possibly boxer. Interesting combo....
2. I LOVE the Mas commercial!! Especially the end when he's dragging the guy around! I crack up everytime I see it. It takes a LOT of good, strong, teeth to DRAG a sailboat through water with people hanging on to it!! The strength of that dog is incredible.... and he jumps from a helicopter, no less!!
3. aawwwwwww! That's so sweet -I hope she doesnt try to walk him!! He looks a little big for her to handle.... I have a friend who was at one time a client where I work. He bred Newfies, and he sent me a Christmas card one year with him his wife, their daughter and the two Newfies. Seeing the people with the dogs gives you a real good perspective on how BIG they are!! If I remember correctly they were named Sassy and Griz..... They are so HUGE, yet they looked SO gentle in the picture.....

Luka's breed

Freebee's dad was a yellow lab, but the mother was all black. Black is the dominant color in animals, but maybe a few recessive genes acted up there... And the way I understand it, if you mate a black lab to a yellow lab most of the puppies will end up black, but there still may be some yellow ones.

Luka's breed

Well, I'll give it a shot - this is speculation of course.... Everyone (and thing) with black hair/fur has an underlying color of red. That's why people with dark hair have a hard time lightening it. It gets through the black and thin hits red.... So speculating, maybe a dark colored pointer (black and grey perhaps) and a yellow lab? The fur might come out reddish and that would account for the white stripes.... :-?

Luka's breed

Except for coloring, he looks ALOT like Frebee - I have kinda determined that she is part lab, and part short haired pointer. We know the father was a lab, but the mother was a mix. (an ooopppssss on the part of the owners; the yellow lab is a purebred) And she was trying to pass them off as purebred Shepherd's! Whoever heard of a Shepherd with floppy ears? Does Luka point? The tail raising is a bird dog trait. Check out my avatar and compare - they seem to look alot alike. I'll try to get a frontal photo for you.
9. well, count me out.... I;m about as balanced as the Leaning Tower of Piza.... LOL

Update on Collies

I would like to see her and her husband do jail time.
I would also like to see the court order that they are never allowed to own a companion animal again.
I agree with both of the above statements and also that they are ordered to pay restitution to the vets involved in care and also to camp collie
So do I!! this is terrible!! There was a guy here who was arrested and tried for mistreatment of his horses - we're in the Chicago area, and he wasnt brushing them or providing the stables with enough straw to keep them warm, according to the reports. This sounds MUCH WORSE and they let her go??? At least the horses were fed, and had water every day. And he did clean the stables....and he lost his horses. This is outrageous that she could get away with this.
11. My question exactly.... New wave roller skates? snow hikers? hmmmmmm? Dont leave us out in the cold!! :D
12. I need to point somethng out here - now please dont everyone get mad, but this is a personal observation and I have to spill it. First I assumed that laduenda was a male, I'm not sure why. So for that I apologize. Second, does it not appear that everytime she posts something, we all get up in arms because it's so outrageous? So I have to ask..... Is she doing it deliberately, just to see what we'll say? And if so, would she please STOP? I'm sure we have enough stress in our lives already....I know I do. And it upsets me when people behave like this. I know people at work that think "pushing all the wrong buttons" on others is humorous..... Just my take on the issue.
13. Another Barkfest going on, only this time it's because the police are around. We had snow/sleet, and I'm thinking from the polce/fire truck response someone had an accident. I hope everyone is ok...
14. I hate to admit it, but it WAS funny to watch. He was licking, swallowing, licking, swallowing....it took forever to get down without water. He decided that stealing food wasnt worth it after that, but like I said, it wont work with every dog. And you gotta put the water up, or its just another treat for them. Might not work foir Hazel, since she's used to eating peanut butter already. It wont hurt her, without water, if you're worrying about that. It just requires them to work hard to get enough saliva to swallow it.... It's gotta be a good sized glob too....since they eat everything without thinking, it's got to be big enough to cause it to be hard to swallow. It wont hurt her. :D
15. An inexpensive plastic baby gate can be gotten pretty much anywhere - all you nesd is one wide enough to cover the doorway - The peanut butter would not have worked except we put his water up - so he couldnt drink anything to force it down. even a piece of plywood would work in the doorway. anything to block her out will do, and the towel/rug/bed is just a reminder that this is where she needs to go when yu eat. Best of luck to you!!
16. My solution to this is a baby gate - give her her rug, tell her to lie down, and then gate her out of the eating area. If she gets up yu can order her down again, without having to have her in your face while doing it. Then when you're done eating, if she was good, give her a treat. My Golden used to steal food all the time - right off the table!! We put his water up, and left a spoonful of peanut butter on the table. He of course snarfed it down, and tried continuously to swallow it for over a half an hour. He was licking and swallowing constantly. He never stole anything again, but this wont work with every dog.
17. BE REAL! How could we turn you in? As was already pointed out, we have your forum name and nothing else... "Hello, Animal Control? There's this guy on our forum we dont agree with so we want to turn him in. No, we dont know his name. No,. we dont know his address. We know nothing about him except his forum name.... You'll get right on it? Thanks!" COME ON!!!
18. Rott is right - it IS hard to ignore them when they look all sad and pitiful. But you have to. This teaches them that their behavior is unacceptable and only if they stop will you be happy. Mom dogs do this with the puppies all the time. And higher pack members do it with "uppities"... It might take a couple of lessons before she gets it, but it's in everyone's best interests to make her stop. I am a firm believer in NEVER allowing a dogs teeth to make contact with your flesh. I used this to teach my dogs to take food gently from my hand. They werent really trying to bite, but they needed to learn that they cant touch me with their teeth.
19. I kinda doubt Alex would hurt anybody - but he's the loud, boisterous, deept throated barker and he's big (by lab standards) he's 100 lbs. Freedee is 75 lbs, smaller, sleek, quieter, and SHE would be the one to take out the burglar. They'd be so busy watching Alex they wouldnt see her sneak up on them!! LOL I brought them both into my office one day (to show them off, of course) and everyone shied away and commented on how big Alex was - the whole time he is wagging his tail furiously and begging to be petted. Freebe sat down real quietly and just watched everybody. One of my friends came by, looked at both of them, and said "HER I would not want to meet in a dark alley...." He hit it right on the head....
20. Try this - when she nips, grab her ear and pinch with thumb and forefinger; then say NO loudly and forcefully. follow it up with "BAD DOG" and then ignore her. Only pay attention to her when she "apologizes" by looking contrite. This is how the pack would treat her. Unfortunately, you have to pinch hard enough to cause a small amount of pain. She might yelp, dont let it affect you. She will come around. I've had to do this with both of mine, they handle it and get "straightened out".... in the pack situation, the ear gets bit for "reinforcement" of the pack rules.... good luck!!
21. LOLOL - that's FUNNY! Maybe I should try that!! They annoy me, but they cant help doing what they believe they need to do. It's funny though that they dont appear to like dogs. I would guess the reception at houses with dogs is not good.... Things have quieted down somewhat - I think they've gone home. Beagles dont give up easily - he was still baying long after all the other dogs had stopped.... I finally had to go outside and yell "PEPPER!! shut up!!" and he did. It's funny - we all tell each others dogs to shut up and they do.... is "shut up" a standard dog training term??? LOL If you're a dog lover, THIS is the neighborhood to live in!! LOL
22. This is the first town I've lived in where more people had dogs than DIDNT have them. There is a high incident of crime in the center of the city, and people just feel safer with dogs around. I have to agree with that. I saw a show on TV where a police chief said that having a dog is better protection than an alarm system. Didnt matter what the size of the dog, what the crinminal was afraid of was the dogs barking alerting a neighbor or the owners to call the police. In this neighborhood, those of us who have dogs have never been robbed. So that seems to play out what the Police Chief said. It's SO funny when a Barkfest is going on! You'd think the entire neighborhood was being ransacked with all the noise!! LOL
23. SERVES HIM RIGHT!! If you dont want the dog, find someone who does... I hate people like that. Animals rely on us for eveything.... and they TRUST us - that's the sad part.... Annemarie Lucas woulda SMACKED him!
24. LOLOL - the guy just showed up here. I answered the door and he saw my dogs, and of course the other dogs are all still barking (and baying - that Beagle cracks me up) and he says "Are there any houses here that DONT own dogs?" And I said "one or two...not much more than that"... and he says "HOW do you sleep at night?" LOL poor guy - he wasnt expecting THIS kind of reception.....
25. This guy and his kids have strong nerves, that's for sure. We're lucky everyone around (just about) has a dog or the police would be here. It's so NOISY - it's funny too. The whole neighborhood just goes up every time a stranger (or the mailman) comes around. If you dont like dogs, this is NOT the neighborhood to live in!! LOL
