GizmoRedNosePit Posted May 31, 2002 Posted May 31, 2002 ok, 5 month old pitbull and she is allmost done loosing her puppy teeth and her breath is getting worse by the day?? Is there any home remedy that I can give her...... Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted May 31, 2002 Posted May 31, 2002 There is a remedy - but it's not all that cost effective. I have a 4 year old Akita - and the only thing apart from a good dose of Listerene - is Charcoal tablets - most pet shops have them - but some sell them for outrageous $$$$$$.....PS - just check that the gums are not infected. If its not smelling like normal dog breath then you perhaps should have her checked for medical problems - some have bad breath as an indicator. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted June 2, 2002 Posted June 2, 2002 Please elaborate - what should "nice fresh puppy breath" smell like ? My dog's breath is in fine health and does not have good breath - so what your saying is that now I should maybe get rid of him ? Geez - I guess this also means I'm gunna have to get rid of the mother in law.... Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted June 2, 2002 Posted June 2, 2002 I think maybe a run to the vet is in order. I will agree that puppy breath is not for everyone... and dog breath can be worse!!! It might be the food/treats you give. But if it's really bad then there could be something wrong. I cleaned doggy teath for a while, and I can think of nothing more disgusting then some of the mouths I have seen!!!! I once had to do my mother's own doxy, she was fed moist food. UGGGG :o We pulled four teeth and it took an hour to clean her mouth... I couldn't do it my self... I was too nautious...... Have you tried to brush your dog's teeth? Quote

Guest Anonymous Posted June 2, 2002 Posted June 2, 2002 Isn't it kind of bold to suggest that if one doesn't like typical NORMAL puppy breath, they aren't truly a dog lover? I, myself, find puppy breath foul, vile, raunchy... YUCK! I mean the typical, healthy puppy breath. I can't stand it. It doesn't mean I'm not a dog lover. It means I hate puppy breath. Good/bad breath can be a matter of opinion (I'm speaking of typical breath... not dragon butt breath). I also hate the scent of vanilla, but have a friend who loves it. :P I'd love to be able to brush my dogs' teeth except I don't think it's good for my dogs to eat a toothbrush daily, or even weekly  . Guest Anonymous Posted June 12, 2002 Posted June 12, 2002 You can buy breath biscuits by pedigree chum just take a look in your local pet store or on the official website. The best way to conquer this is too feed dry food and brush his teeth. You must use a doggy brush as the bristles are softer and a pet toothpaste or lightly salted water. Quote
Peng1zrule Posted June 12, 2002 Posted June 12, 2002 bad breath can be the food you are feeding, an internal problem, or bad teeth. however, if you mean he is just losing puppy breath...dogs seemingly go through three breath stages--puppy breath, which is nice enough, regular breath, and dog breath. if it's not horrendous, I'd assume he's just getting older. Guest Anonymous Posted June 12, 2002 Posted June 12, 2002 You might want to take her in for a check up. My dog had the same problem and it turned out to be an infection in the flaps of his mouth. Quote

As for your training problem - well use your finger as a brush for the toothpaste ;-) or regularly feed your dog a nice large bone to self clean the teeth on. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted June 12, 2002 Posted June 12, 2002 You said why bother to have a dog... Welllllllll... I can like my dogs just fine without having to like their breath. Kinda like I don't like poop scooping, but, hey, it's part of the job. Would anyone dare say, "I love the way dog poop smells!" It's part of it... :D Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted June 12, 2002 Posted June 12, 2002 Uh, I was just kidding about the eating toothbrushes thing. I thought it was a ridiculous enough statement that nobody would have taken it seriously. They don't care if I brush their teeth, trim their nails, pluck hair from their ears, etc. etc., but thanks for the advice, anyway. 8) Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted June 12, 2002 Posted June 12, 2002 I use the breath spray from doctors foster and smith. My beagle loves it but that is the one thing my other dog will not tolarate. He runs inside his dogloo every time I take it out. :D I think it works great! -beagle88 8) Quote
GizmoRedNosePit Posted June 14, 2002 Author Posted June 14, 2002 Thankyou for the great advice....some of it was a little extreme but ok! lol It turned out that she is just getting older and going through the whole growing up stage...she gets bones that clean her teeth and get rid of plaque...she loves them...thanks everyone! :D Quote
