1.
They other day on my local news, they did a segment promoting the "Puggle". It was disgusting, they went to this "breeder's" house ( I use the term loosely for these people) and where talking about how they sell the dogs for $800 each. And the lady just looked like white trash, it made me soooo mad that the local news was basically selling these dogs to the public. :pissed:
That must be what my dad saw on tv. He mentioned something last night to me. He saw something about "those 'designer' dogs." But he couldn't remember, "Pugs and something else." I kind went off on a rant and he was a little taken aback. I had to explain to him that I wasn't mad at him, I just feel strongly about that stuff. I was mad a the 'breeders' of these dogs.
2. Jack is now eating Innova Evo. (My cat is on the cat Evo, as well). He loves it! He was on wellness, but he stopped eating it after a bag. Then he was on Solid Gold until the Evo came out. I went with Evo because I do eventually want to transition to a raw diet, but, living at home with the parents right now, it's not feasible. We barely have enough freezer space for our own food, let alone pet food. On another tangent, I got sooo frustrated at work. I work at an animal hospital that "will never recommend feeding raw." And really pushed the food they carry. When I boarded my foster cat, one of the mgrs saw the Evo bag and wanted to "see me". She kind of interrogated me. Why did you choose this? Why didn't you choose Royal Canin? It looks bad if a client asks you what you feed and you don't feed what we recommend, but I'm not saying you *have* to switch. I didn't mention that I would like to feed raw, as I know the practice owners feelings, but I told her I like that the Evo is grain free, and I want a food with high-quality, human-grade ingredients. Then she quizzed me on ingredient labels, though she had to concede, "you are more educated than most people." I don't think the Royal Canin is a bad food, especially their new formulas for cats (they aren't sold in stores, only vet hospitals). But I feel that it's my personal business what I feed. I don't see anything wrong with raw feeding as long as the owner has done their research and is providing proper nutrition. I realize that some people won't do the proper research, and that is why I never just recommend it to ppl. And if I mention it to someone, I stress the amount of research they will need to do first. Just needed to get that off my chest.
3. Oh, no. Was there a segment last night? I didn't read this until today or I would've watched! Now I'm bummed I missed it.
4. Like others have said, rabies vax varies by state. In MA, the first rabies is given, and then, if the second is given between 9and 12 months, that booster is good for 3 years, if given earlier or later, it's only good for a year. For the other vax, I give bord because I work at the hospital and Jack sometimes comes and stays in a run. I give that every 6 months. The hospital I work at has recently switched to a three year protocol for the combo (except lepto - that's still given every year) as the others are not needed every year. Also, I vaccinate for lyme disease as it is endemic where I am, and even though Jack is on tick prevention, every once in a while I have to pull a tick off of him.
