  1. it didn't work, why didn't it work?
  2. I'm trying to get my avatar to work, just ignore me. :)
  3. thats fantastic! I live in Illinois and it's just apsolutely wonderful news!
  4. yes i know that they're are definately not for everyone that's why I can't have one. But they are extremely loyal to their families. I especially can't have one if I can't handle a german shepherd, but I still love the Fila.
  5. that's the Fila Brasileiro for the full name if any one wanted to check them out, i can't remamber where i found out about them though
  6. any one know about the Fila. i just fell in love with these dogs. they hate strangers but are the greatest dogs when it comes to their family. i could never have one though
  7. my mom wants a bernese mountain dog. not at this time, just later when our number goes down. does anyone have any info on this breed? i hear that they're really great dogs but i've never met one before. like are they quiet or loud, smart or not, great with other animals, kids? any info would help.
  8. yes my mom does need to be sneaky about it. but she doesn't care much for the law. she's always getting trouble, not bad trouble but it shows enough of her feelings towards legal and illegal.
  9. oh they are, in fact they're getting to be the chubby side. once we get our fenced yard with the new house they're gonna go wild. they don't mind he tie out but with the yard more than one can go out. Sydney just loves being outside rolling in the mud then tramping through the house proudly. i don't think i could live a day without a dog or more, that'd just kill me.
  10. Tucker used to do that. First we switched him to a chain linked lead. Then we took him off that, every time he bit the lead we'd correct him with a stern "No" then when he stopped we praised him. He got the idea that it was much more fun not biting than biting. He loves praise. Many of you've heard it before but I really love Tucker.
  11. at the current time we have seven dogs. my mom is home during the day and my siblings and i are home durong the night. our house is large, soon to be larger when we move. we have the time and space but is it too large a number? most of my dogs are extremely mellow and do not require much fussing over, except the GSD which our trainer has yet to take. opinions please.
  12. my dad said he'll be out of the house by the end of this month :D this is so great. the house has a fenced in yard (right now we have a tie out for the dogs) it's so much bigger than our current house. it's going to take awhile to actually move since we plan on redecorating before moving. plus this way we'll be right down the street from both my sister and grandmother. my whole family going o be in the town, excluding aunts, uncles, and my many cousins. which means when we have our gettogethers the dogs can be included too. yay i'm so happy! :D
  13. my mom already has tried to talk to her, it didn't work. She got a 9 month old male pug puppy. Such a little dog wouldn't work in our house since our dogs are much larger and are used to larger dogs. Tucker went with us when we went over there to babysit my nephew. He loved the little guy but was a little harsh when they play fought, Tucker's 43 lbs when the pug is like maybe 10 lbs. I know it's not the pug's fault of where he was born so i kinda fell in love with him, even though I know my sister's in the wrong. And then my sister had the nerve to go to the animal shelter and get two cats, thinking that it would make up the difference. My sister's about the same with cats, once she gets tired of it she wont want it anymore. She knows she did it so she's making an excuse.
  14. i don't know if any of you remember when i posted about Drake and Reesie. for those who don't, my oldest sister and two diferent dogs, at different times. one was a rottie mix, she had him outside all the time and decided to get rid of him. she just gave him up, a little while after that she learned that he'd hanged himself. he was chained inside a fence. he jupmed and killed himself. then my sister had this beagle who she also decided she didn't want anymore and that dog ended up getting stolen. i didn't write about her other dogs though. one she, of course, got rid of ending to some unkown person that might or mightnot take care of her. then there was the rat terrier when he ran away my sister said "oh well". now she's getting another dog from a puppy mill! it's for my brother inlaw. my mom just told me this. she's getting it today. i called her on her cellphone and got her right when she was sining papers. This place is called Puppies Paridice. i told her that she shouldn't and she just blew me off! she doesn't care. i can''t stand her! she knows that it's a bad idea but she's doing it anyway. i'm calling her again and, after she helped the puppy mill. i hate this, first of all she shoulld'nt have another dog. all of the dogs she had had bad fates, now she's getting another one. I hate her so much!
  15. well for one thing i did say that i didn't think "strong" was the right word. i can't answer any of those qustions because i was meaning the future when i'm out on my own. i have at least 6 to 8 years where i can responsibly make this dicision. these years include finishing highschool, college etc. i want to be able to get my next dog when i can provide the right care for him/her. i just want to make a list so that when i'm ready i can do it the right way, instead of my mom's way. which i suppose if it's going to be 6 years then i really don't need this NOW, but it makes for a nice discusion anyway. :)
  16. well like i said since i pretty much have no say in what dog we get i just wanted some sites for furure reference so that when i do get to choose my next companion i'd know where to look. and you're right the GSD is a beautiful dog and that's the main reason my mom got it. and because of that incident i'm not wanting to have another GSD. not that all of them are like that, a lot aren't, but i just feel that this breed is too strong for me. i'm not sure if" strong's" the right word but the german shepherd is just not the right dog for me. ( sorry i got off topic)
  17. is there any online test where you can determine the type of dog best for you? my mom's current theory about how to get a dog is by looks( my mom likes this way but i don't) when i decide to get my own dog someday i want one capatible with me not based on its looks.
  18. he was at an old woman's house but she fell ill so she returnd him to the breeder. i guess i have to agree that we unintetionally messed the dog up. it's going to be about two weeks before our trainer can take because she's moving to a bigger and better training facility at the moment and so has no room for the dog at the present time. so i'm punching a lot of pllows during this time to keep myself from going crazy. but while we do have him we've become stricter. and i don't think it was my sister's doing because (i've just found out) before my dad's dog and the GSD started fighting and he put the the dog out there, his girlfriend came over and the dog crushed her hand, broke her thumb bone and a couple of other finger bones. Since our trainer can't itfor two weeks we're taking it up when we take Tucker for his training session. Our trainer already said when she first met the dog that she doesn't trust it.
  19. it's conformation that shes going to train me for. but even if i don't get any money it's going to be great.
  20. she's one of those mixed breeds that you just can't tell what they are, the best i can do is terrier mix. i'm going to take her to the vet and see what he thinks
  21. She's the greatest dog in the world (i quess that's what we all think about our pooches) last year she tried jumping on the couch but didn't make it (she's a small 20lb dog) she fell right on her hind knees. the only damage had something to do with her ligament. the vet said she'd be fine. and she is for the most part. he did say that there could be a chance of arthritus. she's going to be 8 this April. anyway simetimes after she has sat for a long time when she stands up she starts wobbling and falls down. she's fine after a few minutes but we give her her pain meds afterwards. just a few weeks ago she started having trouble with her teeth, she can't chew her dry dog food. so we've been her softer dry food and canned food. i didn't think 8 yrs was young but its not that old either. i got her as my 7th birthday present and absolutely love her. i've had her since she was was 8 weeks. i really hope she stops declining.
  22. she decided that i'd be good for junior handler. she said some jr. handlers come out of it with some money. while i was working Tucker on an off leash heal instead of watching him she was watching me. i wont know when she'll start traing me for a awhile but i'm really excited. she was also impressed with the bond between Tucker and i. he originally was going to be a family dog but he kinda attached himself to me, which is fine with me. I love this dog! does anyone know exactly what goes into being a jr. handler?
  23. our trainer is going to get him. she breeds GSDs and has been a trainer for 17 years. i had no say when we first got him. while i was at home my mom and sister went out and got this dog. i didn't like this dog from the beginning but my mom "just had to have him" being only 14 yrs old i couldn't do anything about the situation, especially when i try to tell my mom it's a bad idea but she wont listen. i really don't care what his problem is, i just want him out of here. i love dogs but when i have a 4 yr old nephew it gets scary. some of your suggestions are great but i'm going to let my trainer deal with it. i've been around a lot of dogs, my mom used to have a rescue and i volunteer at the humane society and besides the great pyrenees i've never been around a dog like this and i hate. and it's not just my sister, this morning he bit me in the leg, in this situation i was just standing at our ferret's cage giving them a treat when he did it. and i agree he doesn't belong in this house
  24. my sister's 15. i think he should be uthanized but it's up to my mom. we didn't know what my dad was going to do. he's been really good to his previous dogs, we didn't know he was going to do that. but like i said the dog's done this before my dad had him.
