  1. I would have to say that some of my favourites would be Dobermann, Rottie, pharoh hound, english bullys (that pic is just adorable Kiwi!!) Saarloos(sp?) wolfhound, Great Dane (especially the blue merle & harlequin) Shiba inu, mals, and of course my pride and joy, the Siberian Husky!
  2. When I was in Junior school me and my friends went through a lion king phase and we used to pretend to be each character  I was always Nala! I uses to pretend to be a horse too!! Yay! The fun! :D I am always pretendiing to be a dog now, is that weird? Me and Zoe wag when we see each other-tee hee!!! Not in public though don't worry! And at work if someone has no hands free and has an itch someone scratches it and we do that twitchy leg thing that dogs do! hehe!
  3. Yes it is to do with it being a smaller land mass I believe..I guess the reason it still exists in the us is to do with the sheer size of the place, and the greater and more varied wild animal population. I think the vaccination for rabies was developed in the late 1800's, that combined with destruction of stray dogs, licensing dogs and muzzling was what eradicated it from the uk and the same for the other places. Apparently Austrailia has never had rabies introduced I am not sure whether that goes for any other places, but I read that the EU is close to total eradication, so hopefully US next! By the way, my coworker was back at work today with only some small swelling on her hand, but I think (hope) she is getting it checked out by a doctor on monday. She won't listen to any advice I give her, her best friend who works in the pet shop is the only one she'll listen to, so she has been walking around all day with ice on her hand...fat lot of good that will do.(yes that was the one who thought rabies exists here) :-? But it did bleed alot, which reduces the chances of serious infection, but even so I will keep nagging before she has to have her hand amputated.
  4. O.K so today we had two cats in the grooming parlour, British blues very pretty but complete psychos! Anyway while we were attempting to trim ones nails, it flipped out and bit one of my workmates hand about 8 or 9 times while she was trying to restrain it from escaping. Later on, while she was having it cleaned up another of the girls came up and said that we should use tcp on her hand or she could get rabies... :o Of course I thought she was joking, but apparently not-(I live in the UK by the way so you can see why I was a little confused) Anyway, thinking she was just kidding I just said-rabies? I think thats a little unlikely as it doesn't exist in this country, and she replied adamently Yes it does, you don't know whether those cats have been vaccinated or not..and my boss (the manager of the grooming parlour)!!! was nodding along in aggreement. Of course at this point I was in complete shock and just stared at her while she was explaining how apparently the cats catch it off foxes and hedgehogs...yes hedgehogs. :o She has two dogs herself for fuck sake I have decided to print of a sheet of information explaining rabies to them, including its eradication in the uk in 1906...and stick it to their foreheads tomorrow. I still can't believe it I am so angry! How can someone who has worked in a pet shop for near on 3 years and another person who has done a 2 year college course on animal care and is the manager of a pet shop for almost 8 years believe that we have rabies in this country! It is madness! I dread to think what advice has been given out to owners with new puppies who come into the shop asking about vaccinations, and diseases... It really made me ashamed to work there..as much as I love my job. GRRRR! Sorry about the rant guys I just had to get it off my chest, I was so dumbfounded by their stupidity that I didn't bother to argue back I just left, but they will find out tomorrow, I will make sure of that.
  5. hmm, I saw a shiba inu at at show a couple of weeks ago, a lady who used to come to dog training had an italian spinone. umm, its hard to decide what is rare...we have two curly coated retrievers that come into the grooming parlour once a month flloyd and ace, flloyd is a total sod though! I have met a couple of Leonbergers, hehe, they are fun to get in the bath. Harley our regular came to us as a pup about a year ago and now he physically can't fit in the bath so he has to be done on the floor, we have to take off our shoes and socks and roll up our jeans  its a sight! Same when we get irish wolfhounds, deerhounds and GD's in. St. Bernards or Newfies are about the limit in our baths  I have also met one Irish red and white setter I think they are quite unusual & a shar pei lives across the road from me (her name is Flower and Kodi luuuuvs her!) Don't tell him I told you he will get embarressed :D
  6. Ohhh I found a website about them a while back, they are so cute bless em! I thought it would be great to get one so that Kodi could have a mini-me! Tee hee :D
  7. One of the girls I work with has a black boxer-Missy she is goooorgeous. I'll try get a piccy of her to post on here. She isn't completely black though I don't know if that is possible, she has a few very faint brindle markings that you can only see in bright sunshine, and she has a tiny white marking on the front of her nose :D
  8. Hmm, hopefully it was just a temp thing, puppies bellys can be a bit funny at first. About the milk, did you use cows milk? Because when I got Kodi as a pup I was advised to give him goats milk, as cows milk is not really good for them and can upset their tummys so it may have been that. I would keep an eye on her though, and if she is still bad I would take her to the vets just to be sure. Also, as she is a pup, has she just been wormed? Cos that can give them a little diarrhea, Kodi had a bit when he was wormed too. Hope this eases you mind a little, let us know how she is x
  9. Hi shih tzu! I am a dog groomer (well in training still :P ) and if you are wanting to know about trims there are many that shih tzus can have. If your furbaby has a nice full coat and isn't knotty at all, the best trim would probably be a scissor or just a tidy up, basically just tidying up the edges, bottoms of feet, around the legs, bum and skirt etc, or slightly trimmed up all over (scissor) you can specify to your groomer the length that you want to go. There is also puppy trim which is quite popular and is clippering around the body, leaving the legs, head and tail longer, but I am not sure whether this is acceptable for proffesional showing. But if it is just general maintenance of the coat you are asking about, I would suggest using a gentle metal bristled slicker brush and comb to go through the coat every day. Also when you bath him, you should use a doggy conditioner as well as a shampoo to soften the coat and keep it managable. And if possible dry him straight away as a pose to leaving him to dry naturally as the coat can go curly if left. Hope this helps! x
  10. Wow! They are identical! :o Is that dog from anywhere near you? They couldn't be littermates? :-?
  11. How about spin? Dogs pick that up really easily! :D Or leaving a treat on his nose or paws
  12. Hi everyone! God its been so long since I last posted I have been sooo busy at work! :x Hope you haven't all forgotten me! :D Anyway, just thought I'd mention (well ok brag  ) Kodi got reserve best in show in a novelty show last week! YAY! :D He did awful on his obedience though, he did his sit stay perfect and then wouldn't lie down because it was so muddy! Snooty dowg! Anyhoo I will really try to make the effort to come back on here more often, Its great to be back! Luv Lannie x
  13. Yeah Bedlingtons are little sweeties! I have to say I dont like that cut on them though...to me they just look silly. I prefer them nice and short so you can see their little faces. :D
  14. :-? I dont think it's real...um...the dog has red eyes :-? Unless it is black shuck
  15. Kodi and I play hide and seek, I wind him up so that he is going crackerdog around the house, and he eventually goes into the garden and watches me through the window. Then I duck down really fast and hide, and he comes plummeting through the dog flap to find me. I sometimes get impatient and jump out at him though which is hilarious! The first time I did it he leap about a foot in the air and then jumped all over me. But then once when I did it I thought I heard him coming and jumped out screaming my head off and it was my dad.. kinda embaressing..
