  1. Thats females for you  my Penny is so much the same with cuts....she would lick them better all day :D ...some females can feel very concerned about the owner/family and love to be there when something has happened (kinda like mothering).
Its the same when she has her paws squeezed which she hates when corrected for being naughty....she will nibble my hands then lick them straight after :D so its not unusual for your girl to be doing the things she does.

(THIS IS FUNNY) We were on holiday once......a few months before we had Charlie.....walking down to the beach....there was an elderly couple coming the opposite way. Penny walks over to there dog for a sniff and then decides to stick her nose in the dogs eye. Im not surprised there dog started smiling :D even the owners looked at us strangely but with a smile....well she must have been standing there above 5 minutes!
  I have heard of dogs greeting by sniffing each others butts.......but not eyes!

  2. K I have no idea about pork causing that disease but I do know that it is the worst meat you can feed your dog as it causes upset stomachs. My friend used to feed her dog pork until that happened and the dog had to be rushed to the vets....also the dog was bringing it all back up.

  3. I know the feeling......the RSPCA won't do much over here either unless the dog is at deaths door. Sad world we live in! Jac sounds really happy though. I don't know what else to say....everyone seems to have said it.
The only problem is with Jac being at your house getting all the attention and love that he should be getting......when he returns back to his owner...its going to be totally different the way hes treated....being locked up in a cage and more or less hung by his collar, this is going to confuse poor Jac. Maybe you could have a word with this man..I don't know but something has to be done for the dogs sake.....I know how worrying this can be for you....

    Good Luck!

  4. CONGRATULATIONS Yellow. Don't worry though if Sable is reserved in your name....(rescues do normally do that) know one else can have her! Hey your lucky....I had to wait 2 weeks before I could pick Charlie up
Wish you all the best with your new bundle of joy, by the sounds of her she sounds a darl :D :D :D .....keep us posted and send in those darn photos

  5. Mich. I am so sorry for your loss. It can be hard to deal with when a loved pet has passed, but Rocky hasnt really gone....hes still there in your memories, just think about all the happy times you had together, Rocky wouldnt want you to be sad, hes happy playing with all the doggies at RAINBOW BRIDGE. time is a healer. even now I still think about my little girl Shandy (Border Terrier) who was taken away when I was 18 years old.....in late 20's now and thats a long time....but the feelings are still there with you and never fade, but I know she is up there happy as can be with my brother *BLESS HIM*

Smile :) ....it will get easier you will see!

  6. Thats good news Dogpaddle, but that doesnt mean that leaving Jac in the cage and picking him up by the scruff/collor is going to stop..this man needs sorting out totally and the only people that could do that is the SPCA, but they would need proof like snap shots of this man when hes in action of his behaviour towards the dog. You could talk to him yourself but this might make complications worse between you both. (just be very careful) and always keep watch.....people dont change no matter what they say. Once cruel......always cruel! What ever you do...do not let your neighbour fool you!

    Good Luck!

  7. Im here too......was earlier and now I am back again. You only get to see the posts that are replyed too.....not all do but those that are ... it takes a little longer depending on the person replying to it...the main page isn't messed up though  and we are all from different countries as well so the times vary :D

  8. Charlie had a little redness and oozing so i phoned the vet but I was told it was ok it would soon clear up, and has long as he was having his antibiotics there was nothing to worry about.....anyway it had cleared up in no time.

  9. Your Laminated and Wooden floors must be stronger than mine
I only ever use a damp mop to clean my floors....never spillled any water on it. We have rugs down too but most of the floor is peeling up.....even in areas the dogs dont go. Well there has been one problem after another, not just with the floor but tiles falling off now etc after the decorators put them up.....thats new houses for you

  10. Cooked vegetables like carrots, cabbage, brocolli, potato etc are good for dogs....including cooked meat like chicken, lamb and beef......pork tends to give them upset tummy's though. Fruit like apples and pears are also good but grapes cant digest properly. Rice is nice too and a little pasta occasionally.

  11. We had laminated flooring in our hall........after a few months it started to peel...it was layed properly which I cannot understand.....so now we have wood in there has well as the lounge (what a mistake that was) there is not a place in the lounge that doesnt have scratch marks or has not peeled......we used the best hardener to no avail.....sticking to carpet next.

  12. Dogpaddle. You are going through the same I went through a few years ago. My neighbours were looking after a Jack Russell mix who the man treated with hate....no love....apparently beating it with the broom when his wife and kids had gone out (because he didnt want them to know what an  wicked husband and father they had got) Well I couldnt stand back and watch this happen so I got in touch with the RSPCA who came out 4 days later but would not do nothing without proof so I tried catching my neighbour with the camera....from the bathroom window, to no avail because by then (with him being embarassed in front of his family) he did not touch that dog again......by the end of the week the dog had gone....I have no idea where.....hoping it went to a good home.
All I can say is, it scared him

So if possible try and take a few snaps of the dog in its cage from your bedroom or bathroom window...also of the man picking it up by its scruff etc. This way you have proof!

    GOOD LUCK!

  13. Go for it Yellowlab. Im sure she will be happy with you.....she sounds lovely!
I know the feeling of all the excitement when going to see a dog...its so amazing...Hm looks like you have a busy day ahead of you....dont get too tired though....you will need all the energy you have got being round a sweet little Sable

    GOOD LUCK :D

  14. Daisymom I am so sorry to hear of your loss  memories never fade they will always be there with you, time is a healer. I know what your going through though...it is a very difficult time when a loved one is taken away.

  15. When I had my dogs spayed and neutered I just made sure that they had a nice warm comfortable bed to rest in away from draughts, and a clean fresh bowl of water, little food nearby which all is needed. Secondly keeping watch over them so they dont lick the stitches which can become itchy. With my Bullmastiff Charlie (because he had to have an operation to remove his one testicle) the vet gave me some ointment to put on to prevent the itching, and when taking him outside to toilet...I just made sure that he was calm as not to pull the stitches. Exercise of walking the dog is a no no while the belly is still healing....just plenty of rest, clean water and a little bit of cooked chicken and rice to gain her energy back, as well has a steady walk into the garden to toilet. The first day she will be too tired to do anything but sleep, but over the next few days that will change.

Good to hear your getting her spayed. Doing the right thing!

    GOOD LUCK!

  16. Hiya Kara. WELCOME :n00b:

I am owned by a 3 year old Bullmastiff, Charlie, (hes in the pic too your left below my name).....not much difference in size to the handsome Rottweiler

Also owned by a 6 year old Border Collie/Springer Spaniel mix, Penny, and a Westie mix, Patch age 14 years....plus 3 cats.

  17. I don't know much about it either, this is something I am not looking forward to myself but I will do my upmost to help my Bullmastiff in any way that I can. I know my vet will be there for me so I have no worries there.

With advice from others here Im sure you will find something to help your dog!

    GOOD LUCK!
