1.
How is your dog growling at a child (even one with a threatening object) funny? Also he urinated beause he was scared. I don't see how your dog being scared out of his wits almost to the point of biting is funny.
I agree.

  2. Toby's growling was him saying, "I'm afraid of you, please don't come closer". By growling and putting on a show he was trying to warn off Timothy because he was afraid of him. That's also why he peed.

Many people see growling as being big and tough, but the reality is, confident dogs don't growl.

Toby sounds pretty nervy and probably has a potential for fear biting if put in a situation that makes him uncomfortable. Now that you know this about him, you should be extra diligent about socializing Toby and making sure he isn't pushed beyond his comfort zone in an uncontrolled situation.

  3. in 3 days!

It's not because I'm a terrible person. It's because he's had a cup and a half of Wellness sitting in his bowl for 3 days!

Buck has seriously dropped his food intake within the last couple weeks. It started shortly after he got rid of a tapeworm. Usually I feed him after our walk. He gets between 1.5 and 2 cups of Wellness each day. Prior to the last couple weeks he would eat about 3/4 of his food and finish the last 1/4 in the evening.

Lately, a cup and a half of food will last him a very very long time.

He's not losing weight, he's not losing energy, he's acting perky and happy. He's drinking like normal.

Throughout the day he does get various treats. He gets a Wellness Peanut Butter treat each time he comes in from outside. Plus he gets kelp training treats as well. He eats those with gusto like always.

Is it possible that the small amount of food, plus treats he gets during the day are enough for him?

  4. Actually, no. Denver never reversed the ruling made in 1989. It was temporarily suspended in April of 2004 and then put back into place until December of 2004 when the ban stopped being enforced.

Does this sound like a pit bull friendly environment to you?

This ban was only "unenforceable" for less than 6 months. How many pit bulls in Denver do you think arrived there only within that time frame?

I'm not supporting the forceable removal of dogs from people's homes, but there is an excellent chance MOST of these people should have been aware that their dogs were illegal. That is what bothers me.

  5. Crystal, to me it sounds like you've got a high drive puppy in need of a lot of discipline and training and exercise. That's a really tall order, especially for someone who is looking after two small children as well. My best advice would be to exercise Toby like there is no tomorrow. He really sounds like he is just begging for it. Remember, a tired dog is a good dog!

  6. I used to dogsit a deaf sheltie that barked nearly all the time. Her owners could not get her to stop. They learned to live with it and really didn't have any neighbors, so it worked for them. Had they decided they couldn't handle it, I would have no problem with them having that dog debarked. I probably would have done it.

  7.
I also agree that while debarking may not be the most inhumane surgery out there, it seems like it is widely abused.
Really? How many dogs do you personally KNOW that have been debarked?

While media hysteria would like you to believe debarking is widely abused, I highly doubt it is actually done that often. You can't believe everything you see on tv...

  8. I checked and he doesn't have fleas. The vet said he probably got it from eating another animal with tapeworms. Buck finds and eats small rodents quite often. I've pretty much given up trying to stop him. He's too good at it and he eats them so quickly that I can't get them away before they're gone. :-?

  9. I agree with AllAmericanPUP. Even if you do buy a puppy from a poor breeder for a $100 or so, you still need to have it spayed/neutered and up to date on shots. That means you'll need at least $300 "up front".

Rescues charge a very minimal adoption fee. Especially when you remember that the dog has been totally vetted when you take him home!

  10. A while ago I posted a thread about me moving Buck into Scott's house after we get married. Well things have changed. My parents are moving to Columbus very soon after we get married and Scott and I have decided to buy their house. I'm really excited because their house is a LOT bigger than Scott's and is in a better neighborhood. Plus, Buck is used to being in their house.

So my question is, should we do anything different for moving Sheridan into my parent's house? Are there things you can do to make the transition easier for a cat? Since Buck knows this house very well, I'm a little worried about him being territorial about it. Is there a good way to make sure this doesn't happen or to deal with it if it does?

Buck's doing a little better being around Sheridan. If Sheridan isn't moving he couldn't care less about him being around, but once Sheridan moves he usually goes after him. So we're working on it. I wonder if he'll behave the same way if he's not in a strange house though.

  11. Is it required that their ears be cropped in order to be shown? If not, do many people leave them uncropped? How does it effect their success in the show ring?

I'm not trying to start a cropping debate or anything, I'm really curious. :)
