1.  Trying to type an IM to someone, and a message on here doesn't work! I kept pushing backspace after submit and it took me back to the posting a message page! You'd think I'd never posted before....

  2. I tried to find some in your area that might spark your interest.

Of coures I know you know there are tons more dogs out there. I looked for dogs that were good with cats as well. Maybe a Boxer type dog would be a good fit?

  3. I hate to say it, but I don't think any of the dogs on your list would be good choices for you.

Tallie is dangerous and should not be adopted out.

Same and Duke have to go together right? Adopting two young, energetic pit bulls is not a good idea for someone's first dog owning experience. Sam and Duke are young and get along now, but may not in a year or so. Would your mother really want to deal with two dogs that can't be in the same room together?

What about Butternut or Rusty? I know they are not listed in your signature, but you did post about them originally. Rusty is also not in a permanent situation and needs a home very soon.

  4. I guess it's not a huge shock that someone who calls herself Kittygirl wouldn't fit in at a place called dogomania.

Good luck with Caesar kittygirl. You were getting some good and desperately needed advice. It's pretty obvious you have no idea what to do with a dog. I hope the Petfinder people can help you.

  5.
they were always more adaptable, which is why they have survived when the wolves almost died out. and now they are the "wolves"...they are packing and hunting like wolves, something they never did before we stepped in and took their living areas and prey away from them.

    does that help?
Yes, but do you see this as a bad thing? Deer need a predator besides humans anyway.

Yes, we did take over the habitat of a lot of these animals. Again, I don't see why that's a bad thing either. It's not like there is a chance of wildlife like, rabbits, deer, skunks, possoms or coyotes becoming extinct because of it. The fallback is now we have to live with them in our backyards.

Just because our presence changes the way of things, doesn't mean it's bad. It's just different.

  6.
coytoes packing? unheard of. they have always been solitary. we changed the course of the coyotes lifestyle, forcing them to pack to eat, when they were loners before. when there was more little prey. now the prey is big, they have to pack to survive...

..when do we realize that nature controls this, not us?
I'm not sure what you mean here? Are you saying we caused the Coyotes to start hunting in packs, or that this is a natural next step beyond our control?

  7. Mostly I skip his posts because I'm too busy to read them.

It does get hard to find the more substantive posts amongst all the Alan ones but it's not that big of a deal. I'm assuming he will run out of questions at some point!

  8. Really?? That's the first tick you pulled off one of your dogs?

I just pulled 6 off Buck yesterday. And he has been treated with Frontline. :o I've pulled 3 off myself so far this spring.

A couple weeks ago he tried to eat a big bloated one on my white down comforter. There was blood everywhere! That was pretty gross to wake up to.

Maybe we have more ticks here.

  9. I guess I'm more intolerant than most of you.

I have to say that if Buck ever bit me intentionally (accidents don't count) and there were not some serious mitigating circumstances, I would have him put to sleep very quickly.

I can't say exactly what those mitigating circumstances would be, but they would have to be more serious than if he was in pain or something like that.

There are too many homeless dogs to be putting up with one who bites on purpose.

  10. Before you crate him, give him some good exercise. Make sure he's at least a little tired when you put him in the crate.

Then, ignore his crying. If you let him out one time while he is whining (even if it is time for him to come out) it will only get worse. NEVER let him out if he is whining.

Once he's ready, you can start leaving him out of the crate at night.

  11. This has got to be one of the worst cases of breed misidentifications I have ever seen on petfinder!

    Is This a Poodle?

  12. Can you just keep him inside full time and leave him off leash as much as possible? Work with him on commands when he's on the leash, than when he's off the leash. Work on a "chill" command to let him know he needs to calm down. You can have him in the crate at night and when you're gone.

Generally, with a male dog, you know if he's not housetrained. So he's probably at least a little aware of the difference between inside and outside.

When he nips, is it playful, or is he serious? If he's already excited and rambunctious, it sounds like he's just playing very rough. You need to correct it of course, but I don't think it's aggressive or even necessarily a dominance thing. He just sounds excited to me. Training and more time in the house will help that.
