1. LOL I can't imagine owning more than 1 of these types of dogs!!!! Loving, sweet, devoted,,but OMG ....... LOUD!! :D I always prided myself on the fact that I owned 4 dogs and none of them were barkers. HELLO??? Not anymore!! It's a good thing I love this boy so much  Courtnek, can you share pictures? I'd love to see your new girl. What made you choose a hound for your 2nd dog?? I'd be interested to know.
2. Oh goody! Someone else has a vocal hounddog  LOL Isn't that bay something?? Almost jumped out of my skin when I heard it in the van the first time. Talk about loud!! Good luck with your new girl. We can swap hound stories :D
3. I'm sorry the above post was from me. I kept getting an error page when I tried to post my name...
4. Duncan, the coonhound, arrived 2 Saturdays ago. He has fit in quite nicely with my other 4 dogs here. Poor Duncan had been tied to a tree in his previous owners backyard and fed a few times/wk. This boy has absolutely no manners or social graces whatsoever. He has no concept of personal space and I doubt he's ever heard the words "off" before :D His bite inhibition is terrible. Seems he's forgotten everything that momma and siblings taught him his first 8 wks. On the other hand he is so wonderfully sweet, I can hardly stand it!! :P His eyes are so expressive and his demeanor so loveable. He has already learned (in a little over a wk) sit, lie down, wait (at the door to go out), leave it, and off. Now all of this is a work in progress but it does lead me to believe that he wants to learn and is pretty smart for a hound dog  He is definitely going to take alot of work!! I had him at PetSmart for a social outing (since he has had VERY limited socialization). He was fabulous with everyone until dogs started walking in. It took all I had to try to control him. He was barking and lunging like a crazed lunatic (so embarassing when people think you have some out of control dog, isnt it?? LOL) We are signed up for obedience classes that will start in a wk. and I can only hope that he accepts the dogs there without wrenching my arm out of it's socket!! He is pretty quiet for a coonhound. Only baying at strange noises in the backyard. We are teaching him the quiet command, but since coons are vocal to begin with, I don't hold out much hope. Am going to try to cut down on the nuisance baying/barking but know that it is his nature to vocalize. Tell me, do you think it's too early to practice NILIF? He has had such a poor life up to this point (he is 8 months old) that I almost feel bad by making him do things. :(

What....

I'm currently feeding CA Natural, lamb/rice I have fed, in the past, Canidae and Wellness My next choice (since I like to rotate to avoid allergies) will be Innova. I treat them with Canidae snap biscuits, Wellness dog treats, and Old Mother Hubbard treats.
6. We scoop everyday. My 2 sons will do it after school, or I'll do it if they can't get to it. We installed a doggy dooley system in the spring and that thing is amazing! We just drop the poop into it, and it disinigrates by weeks end. No more flinging or wrapping it up in grocery store plastic bags for the trash!
7. He's a beautiful boy. I love his "doe ears" :D Good luck in getting him!!
8. You have NO idea how good your replies make me feel!! Courtnek, I agree with you 100%. If you cant afford to care for them, then don't have them. Simple as that. I'm extremely fortunate that we are able to care for 5 dogs or even more if that would ever be the case. BTW, I posted pics of my crew in the Introduction forum (sorry about not putting them in the picture forum) along with a pic of the b/t boy... It's not the greatest pic of him. He's a bit thin and his hair is a bit dull due to cheap food and neglect. Problems easily taken care of. His picture is at the bottom and his name is Duncan.
9. this very question! I too am seriously thinking about adopting another dog into my already 4 dog household!! I must be certifiably insane, right?? I keep going back and forth about whether or not bringing another dog here is ridiculous or normal :D I currently am furmom to 4 dogs, all mutts, all rescued. They range in age from 8 years to 18 months. A woman I have become friends with from a rescue notified me about a b/t coonhound they had adopted out who ended up coming back into their foster program because "he wouldn't stop jumping on the kids" :x This pup is 7 months old and had lived his life tied to a chain outside. No wonder the poor thing has no manners!!!!!! Anywhoooooo, I have an opportunity to adopt him. He is mine if I want him. He is sweet and gentle and submissive to other dogs. He is a bit needy due to lack of attention in his first home (easily solved) I'm a stay at home mom. I also have 2 boys (10 and 11). 3 if you count hubby!! I live in a large 4 bedroom home with 1/2 acre fenced in backyard. I have the time, the luxury of having the financial means, the space and room in my heart for another critter. So why can't I make up my mind?? Because people already think I'm the crazy dog lady. No one but a few people (these include my boys and my husband) understand my love of dogs. If I have the time, money and room, why not??? Why can't I give a needy animal a home? Like someone said previously "The more the merrier" I just can't seem to make up my mind about this guy. *sigh* Just wanted you to know that you are not alone in wanting another animal! BTW, nice to meet all of you :P
