1. I definatley agree that neutering can help....I had an intact male and he did the same thing...he even peed on me once at a Dog show! he marked through out my house, he would hold his bladder, which dogs will do so they can distribute small amounts of urine. Neutering did help, but I still had to have alot of patience...Do you get a chance to take your dog out for a hike before settling for the night? this worked for me it helped that my dog had a chance to mark through out the "neighborhood" instead of in the house. He loved spreading his "charm" around. broaden your dogs horizons (or territory) so he doesnt have the need to mark through out your house...he'll want to distribute it else where and will possibly save it for his walk. This is only my advice, and I can't be sure exactly if it was the walks that stopped his indoor peeing or the neutering ( I did not crate my dog, but I did with hold water a few hours before bed time)....he still marks alot, but only on his walks, I have a spayed female who marks constantley on walks to....this is a Dogs way of communicating with others...of course I don't know what my dog was trying to say when he peed on my leg at the Dog show! LOL any way good luck, and if all else fails seek the advice of an animal behaviorist, your Vet should be able to recommend one. The other advice you received was great...crating, with holding water ...etc
2. To Newfiemom
I follow the diet outlined by the book, Holistic Guide for a Healthy Dog and I do not feed the bones part, I just add bone meal to the diet...
I just wanted to add that Raw bones are different than bonemeal. Bonemeal is a cooked and processed product, often high in lead content which cannot match the nutrients found in raw edible meaty bones. and to Crested, have you thought about supplementing your Dogs diet with Essential Fatty Acids, these fatty acids help support healthy skin, hair, joints and hearts...Good sources of EFA's include fish, fish oil, some vegetable oils, dark green veggies, eggs, raw nuts & seeds. Flaxseed oils, and eggs from properly fed chickens (free range) offer a good supply of the important omega-3 fatty acids. I am very much a supporter of the BARF diet, I have my Rottie and 3 Newfoundland dogs on it.
3. One of my Newfoundland Dogs was suffering from hot spots, vaginal infections, ear infections...the Vet was constantley prescribing antibiotics...it was a horrible cycle and she was in a great deal of discomfort. I switched her from kibble to BARF diet and cut out all grains from her diet instead using fresh veggies etc...she is like a new dog all infections are gone, she is happy and in good health...I swear she is like a puppy again and she is 7 years old! any way for me it was the diet that had been the problem...
4. If your Dog had erect ears and they were big... your fur freind looks a little like an Ibizan Hound
5. What about the Canadian standards for the Breed...
