1. On Friday's ep no. The episode Sherman *might* be in won't be aired until October when Animal Planet airs a program about the Reliant Dog Show that took place last weekend. Between now and then we may end up on the cutting room floor though. Let's hope we don't though! Rachel
 2. Did anyone happen to catch Wild Rescue on Friday. This would have been the episode featuring Texas Hearing and Service Dogs. If you did see it, did this episode feature a Lab (and possibly a Doberman) being tested for service dog work. And if it did, did you see a Rottie in the background? I know. Lots of ifs. :) Rachel
 3. Just wanted to let everyone know there's one week left til our Intarsia raffle drawing. Many thanks to those of you who have participated!! Rachel
 4.
I was watching animal planet last night and they rescued a bunch of fighting pits. It was in the state of Michigian I belive. Well they said that they had to immediently put them down because no sheltars in that state will take pits! Can you belive that!
Sadly, yes, I can believe it. Unfortunately there aren't too many reputable pit bull rescuers, and the ones who are reputable stay full all the time because they're very selective about which homes the dogs go to. And many shelters have a blanket policy of putting to sleep pit bulls, Rotties, and other breeds. Our shelter has a policy of not adopting out pit bulls. Not because the dogs are unworthy of being adopted, but because of the scum bags that come in wanting to adopt them. This area is renowned for several dog fighting rings, and because the shelter is limited in the amount of screening they can do of potential homes, this is the only way they can keep these dogs from getting into the hands of the dogmen. They only transfer the pit bulls we get to rescue, but the vast majority of them are put to sleep. :( On another note if these pit bulls were in Michigan, they got off lucky by being put to sleep. Michigan still practices pound seizure, and many of the dogs who don't get adopted are purchased by class B dealers then sold to medical research facilities at a great premium. Rachel
 5.
rottie_mama - Some places are som overwhelmed by dogs to place they make very bad choices, they ignore the fact that bad placements often come back to them or another shelter organization or worse.
I suppose that is true. Too bad they don't understand that when they place an unsound dog it reflects poorly on the breed, on them and on rescue in general. Poor Cai could have been saved a lot of time, trouble and money had the rescue she adopted from been more concerned about placing a suitable companion with her rather than just unloading a problem dog onto someone else. Not all rescues were created equally, folks, so don't be afraid to ask more about the group's acceptance policies, temperament evaluation, methods of housing, etc. Groups that employ foster home as opposed to kenneling their dogs will be much more acutely aware of their dogs' likes and dislikes, behavior issues, and temperament. Rachel
 6.
I rescued my 4 year old Rottie when she was 11 months old...boy did I have alot of bad surprises with her! she has a very high prey drive... <snip> I did not give up on her even though she attacked me 3 times when I first got her...
Good grief! Where in the world did you adopt this dog from??? Ethical rescues will not place dogs who are temperamentally unsound, and they offer full disclosure about the dog's nuances, i.e. high prey drive, doesn't get along with other dogs, etc. Rachel
 7.
WOO HOO! We found a black lab puppy to adopt and she is coming home to us next Friday, April 11. She will only be 9 or 10 weeks old at that point though and I am not sure of how to care for a puppy who is recovering from being spayed. Any tips?
Congratulations on your new baby!!! Puppies bounce back very quickly from surgery, and your pup will probably zoom around and not give any indications that she's just had major surgery. That's the way my puppers have always acted!! Be sure to keep an eye on her stitches to make sure she's not chewing them or they don't get infected. If the incision gets dirty you can clean it with warm water or peroxide. Just be sure to dry the area thoroughly when you're done. You can apply some Neosporin to the incision to speed up healing if you'd like, but she'll probably just lick most of it off. :) Again congrats on your new baby! Ain't puppy breath grand?? :D Rachel
 8.
Hey, how's the fund raising going???? Hope you are getting the support you need!! It was very easy to make a small donation with PayPal!
Thanks for asking! So far so good, Daisysmom. We've raised about $80 so far. It's a good thing too, because I have to take two foster pups in for neutering on Friday. Thankfully the fundraiser should cover those expenses. We still have about a month to go before the drawing date, so I hope we'll be able to sell even more!! Rachel
 9.
No problem!! Happy to help. I haven't looked again. Daisy has been sick, so I have been focusing all my attention on her.
I'm so sorry to hear about Daisy! What is wrong with her?? Rachel
 10. Hi Crested, If you want to start a Crested rescue I highly recommend the book Breed Rescue by Sheila Webster Boneham. It is an invaluable sources, and should be required reading for anyone who is wanting to start a rescue group. I also suggest you contact your local shelters and rescue groups to see what the legalities involved in starting a group are. Laws differ from country to country, and other groups who are already involved in the process should know what is required by law of those working in animal rescue. They can also provide you with contacts to local vets who give rescues a discounted rate and help you in establishing your adoption requirements, intake protocols, etc. Best of luck, Rachel
 11. Thanks, Daisysmom! I thought that was your raffle ticket purchase! :) I just sent you a confirmation letter, and your ticket stubs will go out in the mail this week. Any luck in your search for a rescued Rottie? Thanks again! Rachel
 12.
but when I do get my own home I plan on it! I also believe abused dogs can make the best pets! Good luck with your new one!! :) Good job!
Just keep in mind not all rescue dogs have been neglected or abused. Many dogs that wind up in shelters lose their homes because the owner is moving and can't take him/her, a couple divorces, people can't find dog friendly housing, families lose interest in the dog, etc. etc. I'm glad you're keeping the option open to adopt! Perhaps you can volunteer in other ways for the meantime. Our group is always in search of people who are willing to help with reference checks, transports, home visits, setting up educational booths, and I'm sure the shelters/rescue groups in your area are the same way. You should check 'em out, and remember that just because you can't foster or adopt, doesn't mean you can't help out dogs in need! :) Rachel
 13. LOL I asked not because no one had purchased, but because the post had only had 4 views. :) I wonder what international postage would cost??? hmmmm Thanks for the heads up, Daisysmom. I am getting a 'We are experiencing temporary difficulties.' message too. *sigh* Rachel
