1. since noone has guessed well i'll tell you what the rescue vet told them, St and corgi! my sister suspects basset, but i dunno, he does have a real bulbous domed head. some of the litter had longer, more propotionate legs, and some short and stbby, they were all so cute though! i'll see if his littermates are on petfinder yet and post a link.
2. We got this little guy today from a Saint Bernard rescue.....he's got the funniest little shape. Pudge is 12 wks, was found w/ his littermates in a box in a dump. lovely huh? here's the link to his littermates : http://www.petfinder.com/pet.cgi?action=2&pet=4323539&adTarget=468petsgeneral&SessionID=4263a55754ee24f8-app5&display=&preview=&row=0&tmpl=&stat= soooo what does everyone think he is a mix of?
3. Well, it's been a week and and since we got Misty, and she's fitting in wonderfully, and we are really getting to know her personality. i'm also learning to speak Pyr. She escaped once, which was terrifying, she bolted out of an open gate, as i was walikg through it. It was shocking but also interesting to see the difference in the dog that she is inside, and the dog she becomes when outside and free. She definetly had her own adgenda, and it didnt have anything to do with coming when called! But thats where understanding the breed came in handy, and kept me from being (too) frustrated. I was still very scared though. She came back aftwer 45 min and i was so relieved. We wont be making any more mistakes like that any time soon. The past 2 days we've gotten a blizzard, and here's some pics of Misty enjoying the snow isn't she a beauty?
4. We got our rescue Monday! Her name is Misty, and she's an absolute love, we are just over the moon with her. It feels like she's always been a part of our family. She's absolutely everything we were looking for in a dog. Im so glad she chose us! :iloveyou: She actually comes from a great situation too, her family could not afford to keep her so the rescue person (who happened to originally have a whole litter) bought her back. So i have all her papers, she's microchipped, and all vet records. She's a wonderful dog, and so calm and patient w/ the kids. she had 2 little ones at her old home. 9. Thanks so much for replying! I am working with NEPR . I have what is basically a 20 ft around sandbox in my backyard, so if the Pyr wants to dig, i can live with that. I want a dog that is inside w/ my family, and outside when we are outside, playing in the yard. The barking does concern me a bit, but i have been reading about, GoodBark,BadBark and that made alot of sense to me.I dont mind the time investment of investigating every single bark. I am a stay at home mom, so i have the time and the interest. And i vacuum almost every day anyways. Pyrs "cat like independence" is a large part of what attracts us to them.We are a family that values independence. And also their protective nature.I want a dog that feels like it has a purpose, i live in a nice neighborhood, i dont need the protection, but def admire that instinct...this is a big house and there will plenty of room to "patrol" Of the 3 breeds that we are looking at, Pyrs, Saints and Newfies, Pyrs seem the the most challenging, which is a good thing. Im really torn about Newfies thogh, i had heard it would be impossible to get a rescue Newf, but I ended up contacting the Newfie rescue kind of by accident, and was invited to come to their open house at the end of the month, but thats if we dont fall in love w/ a Pyr first. :D As far as agression towards other large breed dogs, I understand every dog is an individual, but I want to be able to take my Pyr places, The Park, river walk , the state forest...these are all places i bring my children in the nice weather, can Pyrs be that kind of companion? Well, im babbling at this point...but any more insight would be greatly appreciated. If anyone could compare the 3 breeds im looking at, that would be great, i've been doing tons of research, and my brain gets a little squirrely at a certain point!
10. thanks for posting that! what a great dog, that family is lucky to have him.
11. thats from a pyrenees rescue site. lots of good info, but breed specific.
12. I live in the burbs :) i have a fenced in back yard (6 ft fence) also i am home all day, and live in a great neighborhood for walks. With any rescue we get, we will be doing 6wks of doggy school, first me, and then my husband will do a course w/ the dog also. I hadnt read anywhere that they wanted to be outside all the time, i do not want a dog that stays outside. any dog we get will be a member of our family, the same as my children. The dog will however get many chances to go out in the yard throughout the day.and walks of course. I think my family will make a great "flock" for a rescue Pyr! i cant wait for my home visit on Wed. Has anyone here ever had a home visit from a rescue or shelter?
13. In addition to the Saint rescue, i had also contacted the Pyr rescue group in our area. Well, they move fast! We have a home visit schedueled for Wednesday! The contact will be bringing a Pyr to our house, and we all get to interact and i guess she will be inspecting the property. In the meantime i am doing as much research as i can on the breed. I've been enamored with them since i heard a story of a Pyr nursing a baby tiger. I do have some reservations about the breed, mostly wondering about the amount of barking, and excatly how independent they are. i like independence.but also i do want a dog that likes to be w/ it's family. There are no Saints right now that fit for us :( but they get new ones all the time, and who knows, maybe we'll fall in love w/ a Pyr!
14. lol thats funny about the towells, i was thinking of it this morning. designated drool towells  i will research bloat more, i thought all dogs were supposed to have their bowls raised, so i was planning on doing it anyways. i filled out my application yesterday, so now we wait. and i just keep researching.i have no idea how long it will take, but i'll try and be patient. thanks for the rundown, im sure i'll be around w/ all sorts of questions!
15. So, I've been looking into getting a dog forever. After taking every compatability test, and reading up on lots of breeds We are going to start the process to adopt a Saint :iloveyou: I know about the drool, I know about the shedding, and i dont care. I love them. Their dogonality is what we are looking for in a doggy. Does anyone here have experience w/ this breed? Im looking to get an adult, and i realize it may take awhile for the right dog to find us. we have been in in contact w/ the rescue leauge in my state I have a nice big house that we own w/ a fenced in yard, 6 ft fence.I live in a nice neighborhood for walks. We have 2 small children, and 1, 3 legged cat. Any considerations i'm missing? ask away? im trying to research as thouroghly as possible
