1. I've seen these stands at the shop, but they're so expensive here...
I've heard that these stands are good because the pose of the dog is more natural. Is it right? There are no stands in the forest with wild wolves. :-?

2. Wolfy, if you want to get a dog, if your relatives want too, then go and take the dog you like. 14 years is enough to choose any breed.
For what needs are you going to take the dog? Are you going to do agility, flyball or something else? Shnauzer needs a lot of excersize and it's a working dog, you should remember.
As for leaving the dog alone - many dogs can handle that if they have enough excersize.
After the occasion happened to your previous dog you HAVE TO pay much attention to obedience and socialization.
But you should think carefully before taking a dog. Will you smile seeing a mess in your home and say: "pretty dog"? Will you wake up at 3 am to go for a walk with your puppy? Will you spend all your and your family's money to cure your dog when it's ill? Will you feel good seeing your pup pooing on your new carpet, chewing the furniture? If yes, then you're able to grow up a healhy, obedient dog without any serious behaviourial problems.

3. I've heard that this problem is usually with small dogs. My neighbour's dashund has the same. Her owner says this is because the dog thinks the toes and face with hands are different animals. Face-and-Hands is a 'good' animal: it gives food, toys etc. And the toes is a 'bad' animal. A small dog can't see that it is one and the same man because of the size. Now she's trying to show that Feet is a good animal also. I wish her luck!

4. Abker, suppose you NEED to do this. It's really helpful. And it's easy to teach! Once we had to hold the competition on a large field. The snow was 2 feet deep! :o Asting won because of his long legs! :D
Two weeks ago we ran a trial, but the obstages werw COVERED BY ICE! :o You'd better teach your dog to run in such conditions.

5. Yes, I know much about their speed, but I've watched them jumping many times and it seems that they move in another way... :-?
However, I love this breed very much and your replies made me love BCs more. I even created a Windows Theme called " The Borders"! :D

6. I've heard that border collies have a special structure of their legs and paws so that they fail more jumping obstages than other dogs. Is that true? We don't have many BCs here and no one knows anything about this wonderful breed. :hmmmm: :confused1:

7.
JM, I'm not there yet myself but I believe that you can teach them that wearing a harness means it's ok to pull but when wearing a collar it's not.
I did the same. Asting is good at skijouring avd excellent at obedience. :D
