1. Did you read the "instructions" for buying a puppy??! And those prices :o
Not meaning to start a religious debate here, but have any of you noticed that allot of the puppy mills/bybs,(like this one) play the "God card"- plastering the fish symbol all over and going on about God's creatures this and God's creatures that, and they are such "God fearin" patriotic folks? :niewiem:

2. :tard: Why you ask these questions on Friday when I can't remember my own name...

Cricket- small annoying insect. (Just kidding- she jumped around like, well, a cricket when she was little.)
Bug-She was the 11th of 11 puppies and was very tiny.
Merlin- he looks like a magic dog.
Happy- named after my first Alaskan, a popular name with sled dogs, named after the Happy River in Alaska
Zeus- King of the gods- if Zeus had a human voice, it would be James Earl Jones'.
George-originally named Jade, not sophisticated enough for that name, so became George.
Bernie- really Washburn, named after the town he came from.
Tynan means dark in Gaelic.
Woofy self explanatory- sometimes called "Goofy", also self explanatory.
Gemma- means gem in Italian
Dot- she has a pure white dot on the back of her head.
Topaz He is a pretty orangish brown color.

3. First , make sure there is'nt anything in there, like a thorn or small sliver of wood. Usually a limp is an indicator that there is something in there. Clean it with hydrogen peroxide and have someone shine a flashlite on it so you can see better. I wouldn't wrap it unless it continues to bleed. For superficial cuts, you can glue the flap of skin back down with super glue. (Really!)

4. I agree- the posts about this on a sled dog forum I go to have been locked for some time- lots of strong feelings. . The rescue site that I saw was associated with John Schandelmeier, a long time Alaska musher. Not only did his shelter dogs finish the race, they finished very respectably. If I remember right is was simply called
AK Shelter Team.
Found it!

5. I'll help Courtnek out here. If these are true working sled dogs, either racing or running tours, they were probably running 1500 miles a season at leasr. The majority would not do well if suddenly asked to be couch potatos. Even Huskies who are not sled trained can be destructive if not given something to do. There is a shelter in Alaska ( Second Chance League, I think) that places retired sled dogs. There was a team (90% shelter dogs) that ran and finished the Yukon Quest this year. Longer and tougher than the Iditarod. There are people who care. If I can find the addy for the site I will post it.

6. Here is a pic of my lead dog Bug- Since very few people can guess what breed she is, I guess she could pass as a "pound pup". (She's an Alaskan Husky)

7. Crested- I'm only basing that on what I know about most Huskies, some of my older dogs who have a drop of wolf in them only come into heat once a year. I guess were not dealing with Huskies here... :-?
I have to second the spay /neuter advice that everyone else has given.

8. beep, beep beep, back the truck up here folks....
You said that the female had pups, then had pups again, and the first set are 5 or 6 months old. Correct me if I've misinterpreted, but that is impossible. After a female gives birth, she normally would not come into heat again that quickly. :icon_rock:

9. Oh god, I never really thought of that- perhaps Cricket is really a hamster in disguise ! They are about the same size, same markings.... hmmm.

10. Pomeranians: I knew that you knew that... As far as being used for sled dogs today, a picture is worth a thousand words...

11. I was reading this website http://www.goodpooch.com/BSL/realitycheck.htm and came upon this quote:
"With that in mind, here is a list breeds that have caused at least one fatality within the past two decades:

Akita; Australian Shepherd; Boxer; Bulldog; Bullmastiff; Chesapeake Bay Retriever; Chow Chow; Cocker Spaniel; Collie; Coonhound; Dachshund, Doberman; Golden Retriever; Great Dane; Hound-"type" (may include crossbreeds); Husky; Japanese Hunting Dog; Labrador Retriever; Lhasa Apso, Malamute; Mastiff; Mixed-breed (where dog was known to be a mixed-breed, does not include dogs whose breed was not known); Newfoundland; Pit bull "type" (may include crosses or misidentified individuals); Pomeranian, Rhodesian Ridgeback; Rottweiler; German Shepherd Dog; Saint Bernard; Sheepdog; Sled-"type" (may include crossbreeds); Terrier-"type" (may include crossbreeds); West Highland White Terrier, Yorkshire Terrier"

A Pomeranian caused a fatality? A Westie?? A Yorkie!?!? :o
How?!?!? Fall over one walking down the steps? Have a heart attack when you are overcome with cuteness!?!?
Ban the Poms! They are Evil!! :evilbat: Evil incarnate!! I realize that the site is against BSL, but I wish they would provide some info about the hows and the whens...

12. Most of my Alaskans are really "Malaskans "(Malamute/Alaskan). :D
And of course George, the Bordalaskan...

Hey, scratch my butt, would ya?

13. My pleasure guys!!! 8)
Remember, there always two sides to every coin.... I still feed, water, poop-scoop and socialize whether it is raining, 95 degrees, or 30 below zero. Winter means training, foot care, meat/fish to chop and training/ races. Summer means brushing, brushing, brushing, trips to the lake for swimming and supervising the kiddie pool. (The dogs have a pool, we don't... ) Every one will also get old and eventually die, and most, because they are siblings, probably very close to one another. Not something I dwell on, but it is a reality. I wouldn't trade them for the world tho, I'm honored by their friendship and trust in me.
