Aroura

As promised I have taken some updated pics or Merlin (9 weeks old now), and will try to do so weekly while he is growing up if time permits! We went to puppy pre-school on Wednesday, it was so much fun! I took him to the vet to be weighed on Tuesday, 4.6kg, by puppy pre-school on Wednesday he was already 4.8kg! He is growing so quickly, probably the healthiest pup I've ever seen! Its so different to raising Diego, I had forgotten how full on Boxers were! He doesn't stop, not for a minute! At puppy pre-school he started bouncing at all of the other dogs, you would have had to have seen it to know what I'm on about, but it was SO funny! Everyone was laughing as he took turns going to each of the pups, bouncing at them while barking, waving his head everywhere, big floppy ears flopping up and down, I pictured him as a 30kg adult doing that and am glad I'm beginning training now! So he's getting the same socialisation as Diego, who is (ask anyone) the most laid back, polite, well socialised dog ever. Merlin is coming everywhere with me, and I've had a lot of people come here to meet him as well, people of all shapes and sizes wearing all sorts of things, hats, those real baggy, noisy pants, beanies, tall people, short people etc, you name it, he's used to everything now (most of the dogs I know will freak out at certain things so I'm making a huge effort to prevent this!). Sorry I haven't got any photos of Cassie, I will take some of her later, but I did get a very nice one of Merlin with Montie and Diego. I took more, but it is getting very late, I will have to post the rest later! I'm not quite sure how I'm managing to live with such a cutie, I have to keep sitting down and taking deep breaths, asking myself "Is this for real? Can puppy's actually be THIS CUTE??!"... I think I will need therapy soon :o Smooshi, I'm sorry to do this to you, I knew it would be painful for you to see such adorable Boxer baby pics without being able to grab ahold of him and give him a big, smooshy cuddle, but at the same time he is too cute for me, I have to share his cuteness around otherwise I'm afraid I might not be able to cope with all that cuteness on my own! Sorry Mutt_Lady, he's not up for grabs!!! He's mine! :evil: :lol: I'm getting more and more used to his tail, I love that white tip on the end, thinking about it now I'm not sure I would be happy with the thought of it being chopped off! Josh loves it too, he is not much of a Boxer person but has been 100% converted, he adores Merlin, especially his tail :D I'm so excited, we start puppy pre-school tomorrow! I get to show off my precious little puppy! Oh its so exciting! Can't wait to get there, everyone is going to fall head over heels in love with him! Haha, but he's coming home with me!!! 8)

Mei-Mei, you forgot one thing, those gorgeous little puppy kisses! He has got THE sweetest little licks, melts my heart away! And you're right about the ears, so warm and floppy and fuzzy, just adorable. He is absolutely kissable! DAL, here is Diego giving it all his got for Best Puppy in Show - he was beaten by a stunning Papillon (owned by one of the best breeders in the world mind you!), but I was so incredibly proud when he won puppy in group! I'm still getting used to the tail (it was whacking me in the face this morning while I was snuggling him in bed), but the white tip is very precious! He is only having supervised play with Diego at the moment as I don't want Diego playing too rough and injuring him (he is so tiny and precious!). Montie is asserting his authority over him, as he always does when a new dog comes to the house (you need to when you're that small!) but Merlin is a fast learner and is staying out of Monties way. Once Merlin is a couple of weeks older Montie will fall in love with him and be all over him - I've had a couple of RSPCA pups over the past few months and Montie is always like this, once the pup is mature enough to respect Montie Montie starts his "I love you so much!" doting that he does, its very cute! Cassie is not all that sociable with new dogs so just kind of ignores him. Diego loves him though! He's obsessed, he's in love! How could you not be??? :wink:

Well if you are lucky I will post updated pics weekly :wink: Of course they will be the first of many, unless that is, my camera dies of a cuteness overload!!! :o I can't wait until he's had all his shots and I can take him to training and show him off to everyone there!!! He's gonna steal quite a few hearts this young boy... :wink:

Hi all, I haven't been here for a long time but last night I got my adorable little Boxer pup and felt an undying urge to come and share some gogeous pics with you all :D I've been waiting for him since before he was concieved, one look at both the parents and I knew this was the cross for me. I'm so happy, I'll admit it, I did have a few tears of joy running down my face this morning, it is SO GOOD to have another Boxer in the house! His dad just won Challange dog and runner up BOB at the royal easter show the other day, and at 7 years of age too, thats something to be proud of! I just want to add, you must have some real problems if you have nothing better to do than stick your nose into other peoples buisiness when they are harmlessly going about their own life. I pity you. You needent bother replying either, I'm leaving this forum now. I used to enjoy it here, but certain people have made it a place where I'd prefer not be a part of, I'll go about my life happily ever after, without self rightious snobs trying to stick their nose in where it isn't wanted to make themselves feel better about their sorry life. Great post Doberfanatic :D A agree with everything that you said, about getting to know the breeder, using the breeder as a mentor, and never studding without their acceptance, wheather it is a co-ownership of not :wink: The breeder who I am considering for my pup has great lines and a reputation to uphold! I would never consider putting my dog to a bitch without their approval, that would be just wrong. Even if that meant I showed my heart out for years, and the dog was never studded out, not once, I would still be happy :D Diego does indeed have a very promising show career, he's from almost pure grand champion lines. I love showing him, which is why I want to get another show dog, rather than just a pet quality dog. The pride that comes with winning is fantastic, and as for not winning? Well I still have great pride, because I know I have the best dog there, and that he is coming home with the luckiest owner at the show, ribbon or no ribbon :wink: Diego's breeders are also my friends. They have done so much for me, they're fantastic. I'm making them a DVD for christmas titled "Diego's first six months" with slide shows and videos of Diego's first six months, as well as Montie and Cassie and a special section in memoration to Lily. I think they're going to love it! The breeders who I am in contact with for the Boxer are also very friendly, they are 12 hours away so it would be hard for me to spend time with them, but we have emailed back and forth for a while now and they have been very helpful. Well isn't it true that everybody has to start somewhere? I'm not just running out and breeding dozens of dogs, no, I wouldn't do that because its not what I believe in. It seems like not one of you, except for mutts, has actually READ one of my posts, maybe skimmed over but missed the point completely. Yes, I enjoy showing, and yes, if my dogs get titles and a reputable breeder approaches me and their bitch has had all the tests etc, with the all clear from my dogs breeder, I would stud it out. I can't see how this could cause a PROBLEM, I mean, either they use one dog, or they'll find another. At least I have the morals to desex my dog if it doesn't turn out the best. Goo, the breeders do all the tests, I would not even consider buying from them otherwise. I know a network of boxer owners, lovers, and breeders, all around Australia, who have been helping me find a good (the best) breeders. Sizzle, I understand where you are coming from, which is why I would desex the Boxer at the first signs of aggression (or Diego if that happens, but from past behavior, and all the dogs in his lines, that is highly unlikely). I'm sorry I even came here asking for oppinions, seeing as all I've got (on the most part) is a flaming. From now on I will stick to the oppinions of fellow Australians, who are willing to help and guide me, without judging me. People who understand that a lot of show dogs are used at stud at some point of their lives. People who ACTUALLY LISTEN to what I'm saying, without jumping to stupid, unreasonable conclusions. I feel I've wasted my time here, it would be better spent else where. :-?

Honestly :roll: I don't care if the breeders want co ownership, how many times do I have to say I don't care if I make any money from it? Or am I just talking to myself? :roll: Kiwi, I have thought everything through, over and over again. Money is not a problem, by the end of next year Josh will be making more money than even the lecturers at university, if I had a part time job on top of that we would be swimming in money. I know kids are expensive, I know dogs are expensive, which is why I have waited this long to get another Boxer. By the time the pups are ready Diego will be 10 months old, he is 6 months old already and completely under my control when it comes to obedience etc, so it wont be like I'm trying to train two puppies at once. If Diego and the other pup don't get along, I will desex the other pup, Diego hasn't got an aggressive bone in him. If a breeder was unsure about selling a pup to me I have plenty of references I have already offered with degree's in animal behavior, or vets, etc, who can put in a good word for me. They all know me personally, and know my situation, and can say with all certainty that I would make a great owner for a new pup.

Levi is absolutely gorgeous. I think it has lifted my spirits a little having a kitten named after Lily (Lilian), she is so beautiful and is always ready for a cuddle, just like Lily was. Its still hard, she really was extremely special to me.

I am an owner and lover of Papillons :D In fact my little one has just come up to say hello :wink: My advice though, is to visit as many breeders as possible and meet their dogs. I got one of my Papillons from a not very well known breeder, but he is from good lines and is the sweetest, most loving, smartest little dog probably in the world (I'm not biased!). The other girl is from a big, very well known breeder. She is very timid, doesn't look "quite right" and I think was hiding behind the corner when god was handing out the brains :o I love them both though, they are both very sweet and definitely traffic stoppers when I walk them through town! Everyone at training wants one, they see Montie doing agility or going through his tricks repotoire and just say "I want one!", even the big dog people want one, I've always gotta be careful that one of the great dane owners don't try to steal him from me! :lol:

Kendalyn, I'm curious as to why you are concerned that I am thinking about the possibility of studding him out before I even get him? It only makes sence to me, that I would go through all this effort to get a dog from only the best lines and intend to stud him out, as opposed to getting a dog from a BYB and then deciding I might as well stud him? There are plenty of breeders closer by who sell pups for a lot cheaper if thats what I wanted to do! Everyone has their own views on breeding, in many respects I am strongly against most breeding, but honestly, I don't see the harm in striving for the best and striving to better the breed, the other alternative is that I don't stud, breeders have less QUALITY stud dogs to chose from so all breed from the same stud, the gene pool grows ever smaller and more problems crop up from inbreeding. To be honest if he didn't turn out well (or even if he did) I wouldn't care if I never made a cent from studding him out, thats not my priority, my priority is to have a dog to love and cherish. I don't get it, there are plenty of breeders on this forum who aren't questioned, and here I am trying to do all that I can to better the breed (including considering an import) and you're all questioning my motives? I thought you knew me better than that, obviously I was wrong, I appologise for having too much faith in the human race! And for those of you questioning how many dogs I have, I suggest you have a good look at yourself before judging other people!!! All my dogs get all the individual attention they could ever want, I'm not at work all day, I have plenty of money to afford nothing but the best for them, I have thousands of acres for them to run on, they get two walks a day + daily training, and I wouldn't even consider getting another dog if I couldn't handle it! So really, have a look at yourself, I may have three dogs already but they don't take up a great deal of space and are treated like royalty. Whippets are not nearly as fragile as they look, he is still young and his bones haven't even hardend yet and he roughs and tumbles with Great Danes without a worry in the world, and if you look at the breed sizes Boxers are not a great deal larger than whippets are. I wouldn't get a Neopolitan Mastiff because I know they are too big to safely have with a Whippet and Papillons, but a Boxer is a different matter. I think a lot of you seem to be forgetting that I've owned a Boxer before, so I do know the breed.

Glad we agree then 8) I also agree about the not over vaccinating adult dogs too. I do know the harm that it can do to some dogs, especially if they react badly. I always worry when vaccinating an animal when I get it, even just to finnish the baby shots. My kitten needs to have her final round of baby vaccinations soon and I'll worry about her as much as I do for the dogs. Personally though, I chose to vaccinate about every 5 or so years after the initial shots, I just feel safer that way :wink:

Thank you Cairn. It will be good the day I stop crying for her, it has already been 8 months. The time we had together was definitely worth it though, I will never forget.

I mean never by a mother dog who has never been vaccinated giving birth to a litter of pups that are never vaccinated. I may feed my dogs a healthy diet, but I would never endorse something that can so easily lead to the deaths of many puppies. I know of several puppies that weren't vaccinated and died of parvo, hardly the thing I would want to see a family have to deal with. I may advocate a natural diet, but I'm not stupid!

I know I keep posting about it, but I was just making a DVD and was making a section called "In Memoration", with a slide show of photo's of Lily, with "her song" that I used to sing to her, playing in the background. It has made me all upset again, just when I think I'm getting better, I'm back to square one, crying hopelessly over Lily. I miss my baby :cry:

I apologise, I didn't mean to come across so bluntly! It just gets me going when (in my oppinion) idiots, say NOT to vaccinate at all. Fine if they chose not to vaccinate their own animals and they die, thats their problem, but as soon as they start telling other people not to vaccinate, that is SO wrong! :evil:

Sorry, I think everyone has mis understood me, I don't mean MAKE money as such, just to get a little bit in return after spending so much. And of course I wouldn't stud him out if he wasn't up to standard, why would I do that? I didn't breed Lily when I began to see problems with her, why would I go back on everything I believe in now?

Well I wouldn't be buying a dog to make money, but if I went through the effort to get the best dog from the best lines and spend hundreds on going to shows etc to make some money from studding would be a nice reward. Of course I would only stud to approved bitches etc but I don't see any problem in studding out a good dog from good lines to improve the breed and getting money for it. Definitely the tail! No way, not the ears! :o (Personally, I can't think of anything worse than a dog with cropped ears) It is fairly short after getting Diego, but it gives enough time for me to train him etc so its not like getting two dogs at the same time. It also means he's still young and playful when I get the pup, he REALLY needs a friend, he will be the happiest dog in the world when he gets a friend.

Thanks DAL, I think I will be happy with what ever I get, so long as its a Boxer! :lol: Mouse you're right, it is so easy to let your heart rule your head, at least I know I have thought everything through though. Importing a dog from NZ though, I guess that is a case of my heart ruling my head! My heart says to get a dog that is a docked, my head can't work out why I'd pay double the price for it though! :lol:

Apparently it doesn't cost that much for importing from NZ, a girl at training was telling me today that her Danes breeder was importing from NZ and it was only $1000 for the importing, plus $500 aus for a good dog, so I'm thinking that a Boxer would be less? Plus if he turns out as gorgeous as his dad he is sure to make the money back in stud fees!!!! I'll have to talk to Josh about it, but I'm sure that if I give him "the look" he'll agree to it! :angel:
