TDG, I wanted to tell you I went to your site and found it extremely helpful and educational. All my dogs have been on IAMS forever, but our new Pyr seems a bit more sensitive, and in Pyrs it shows up in coat and skin. So I looked at your site and read the articles and learned about ingredients, and have switched them from IAMS to Diamond Lamb Meal and Rice, which they seem to be doing really well on! (i also give them olive oil in the winter and eggs sometimes). Thank you for the information and all the hard work.

cc, yeah, poopsicles, argh.
Truly in the realm of fantasy? Go to work while I sleep all day! :D -
How to pick up the poo. Seriously. Barring that, teaching them all to go in one corner of the yard!
-
Thank you, Michele -(takes a deep stage bow)- It is one of my favorites and especially appropriate here, yes?
-
yeah, i agree to both, actually!

You bloody stupid gash. You can't even remember to lock your doors and somehow dog ownership seemed like a good idea to you? You are worried about kennel fees and Disneyland? You leave a dog unattended in a vehicle? Get off the computer and get a bloody goldfish. You don't deserve a dog.

I also think that dog show judges should be people who actually work with the breed as it was intended, after all if a show is an exposition of breeding stock, they would know best what to look for.
Yeah, my eyes just about bugged out of my head when he said my lovely purebred Pyr looked like a Labradoodle! I was not very kind in my reply... -
Someone said Baxter looked like a ^%&^@^ Labradoodle...
-
okay good! :D

sorry hmmm, if i offended. Bear in mind "dog aggressive" coming from me is not an insult, many Pyrs are dog aggressive because of their guardian instinct and it doesn't bother me.
So "gameness" then, is the ability/willingness to fight? -
Um, okay, again, I am clearly no expert on this breed but I think i read somewhere (on dogo maybe) that a proper APBT is supposed to be dog-aggressive but submissive to people?

oh, michele, i was asking! i would like to know too!

Slightly OT, but while all you guys are talking pits...
Does anyone know how they got to be the dog of choice for the thug type guys in the first place? -
it could be a hot spot-Baxter has an abrasion from a hot spot in the same place which he managed to get the scab off of and it is bleeding again. i did the same thing with peroxide and neosporin. it looks bloody awful.

Does anyone know anything about the Pro Plan Turkey & Barley?

yes, this can certainly work, HOWEVER since you will have two males, you MUST be very careful and supervise ALL interactions until both are past adolescence, you are somewhat at a disadvantage here because toy breeds mature quickly and giant breeds often take three or four years. They will challenge each other, and the Shih-Tzu could get seriously hurt. I have an eleven year old Pom and a two year old Pyr (among others!) both females. They were fine until the Pyr hit eight months or so, then she attacked the Pom over rank and seriously hurt her. They can only be loose together outside supervised, so as not to take this chance again. However, our male Pyr and the Pom get along great.
Good luck. :D -
right on!

i saw someone advertising a malt-tzu...forty ounces, anyone?
-
hee hee!

gentlemen can prefer blondes all they want, as long as the non-gentlemen (ie guys you actually wanna f***) continue to prefer brunettes!
Ladies, do you think that will make him think 2x? -
ah, the puppy trap, those sad eyes! :D remember if you aren't the boss, she will be, so just be firm and gentle and I promise, if you are consistent this will stop in a few months.
Pictures, please? -
Good post, roo.
Ickle, sorry the congrats are belated, but CONGRATS!!!!! it is hard work, what you are doing. -
hi metalann!
r2 is right, the mouthing is puppyness. One of our dogs as a puppy was an incurable nipper as well and none of the stuff they tell you to do worked (NO, yelping, giving a good chew toy, time outs, you name it). So I started spraying bitter apple in his mouth and on my hands when I said No. It sounds a little extreme but it worked like a charm.
And my husband is similar to yours, he has a very laissez-faire attitude towards training and all except one like him best! :D
so where did the screen name come from? i like it! -
Dude! i thought that was a typo! creeper. What a dumbass.

Ash, you said it. Owning any large dog is a potential large liability and personally I think potential owners need to jump through more hoops to be able to own one.
