shawnr
hi all just a bit worried about leaving my dog behind while i'm away (for about a month), some friends have offered to have her stay over at their place while I'm away. She's fairly familiar with them and they have had dogs before but I'm just a bit worried as to how she's take it being over 13 yrs old. she's usually kept out in the backyard and copes quite well being left alone for a week or 2 with friends coming over to look after her, but i'm guessin the new location would be a bit stressful as well? I'm leaving in a couple of days and have already moved her across so we can see how she settles in before heading off and she did seem a little stressed when we were leaving and apparently she spent a bit of time in the garage today waiting for us to come back. does anyone have some advice on how to make this a little less stressful on her? I've thought of dropping off things like old clothes etc with our scent on it but wouldn't know if that would do any good at all.
torii
I would encourage you to keep the dog at home, if possible. But your friends are kind and would be more available at their own place. Supply her usual blankets, toys and try something new, like a Kong filled with peanut butter. She will manage, if loved, even though she will be bewildered by the strangeness. Too bad you will be gone so long. At her age, that is about a year. Hope you have made written plans and given written permission for vet needs and health emergencies she may have at her senior age. imported_doggy
Let the dog stay at your house. At least the dog knows that it is safe in there. But your friends were very kind too, offering to let the dog stay with them. That'll also be great. You said they've got dogs too right, so with that, your dog will have company. Anyways, it'll be your decision.

doggylove
dog sitters are a great idea, or asking a friend who is dog friendly :)
