CincoandDahlilasgirl
Feel free to cross post! Please read statement following this one
Rescued hurricane Katrina pets will be euthanized unless temporary homes are found right away. They are willing to transport these animals anywhere. Please help. PLEASE CONTACT FOR INFO Lynda V. at: 203 515 3024 (cell) Home: 203 227 5308 Email: Transport Provided to Anywhere - Room Desperately Needed! (For the Animal Victims of Katrina) There is transportation provided, with people ready and waiting, for upwards of 200 dogs and 150 cats so far rescued from the devastation of hurricane Katrina. What these animals need is a place to go. Kennels, boarding, vets offices, shelters with any extra space, foster homes and rescues. Even one or two open kennels would greatly help. From what we know, all animals have been vaccinated and are in good health considering the conditions. There are dogs and cats of every breed and size. Some are in groups of two, three or four, hailing from the same family, while some are solitary. ANY KENNEL SPACE AVAILABLE CAN CERTAINLY BE USED. These drivers are willing to move these animals ANYWHERE they need to go. Absolutely anywhere. The current safe houses for these animals are being inundated and some of these pets will have to be euthanized if they are not moved to make room for the incoming animals. Please feel free to pass on this information everywhere. Every forum, every list, every community. REMEMBER THESE ANIMALS WILL BE TRANSPORTED TO YOU. If you know anyone, anywhere, that is willing to take in even one cat or dog, please have them contact Lynda at the information provided below. They are also asking for ANY kind of donations for the animals - money, food, bedding, water, etc. Please Contact Lynda V. at: 203 515 3024 (cell) Home: 203 227 5308 Email: Please contact at any time, day or night. These volunteers, rescuers and shelter workers are working around the clock.
I'm so sorry for the confussion! Appearently someone misunderstood and told the person on dogster the wrong info! Here is what is REALY going on...http://www.dogster.com/forums/index.php?t=82482
I have come across an email on various site's forums (this one included) which adresses a need for foster homes for the animals displaced by hurricane Katrina. The email basically states the following: "If you know anyone, anywhere, that is willing to take in even one cat or dog, please have them contact Lynda at the information provided below. Lynda V. Please submit via email the following information; Your name, your telephone number, your city, your state and a veterinarian reference. We are compiling a master list so we can start placing animals from a shelter in Jackson. Right now there are 240 dogs, and 100 cats that need GOOD HOMES. As you can imagine, there are going to be many more. Animals will be delivered to you. The shelter we are working thru: C.A.R.A. Inc. (Community Animal Rescue & Adoption) Post Office Box 231 Clinton, MS 39060 they are a 501 C3 " (Not all of the places this message has been posted includes the Shelter info at the end). I very much wanted to help by fostering so I have sent two emails to the address provided, only to have them come back "address failed". I've been trying to figure out what to do and found this message on that shelter's message board: "Posted: Tue Sep 06, 2005 11:42 pm Post subject: Hurricane Evacuee Animals @ CARA ------------------------------------------------------------------ ------ There has been a BIG misunderstanding regarding the need for foster homes at CARA. We have a few pets that were owner give-ups due to their home situations. The mention of 240 dogs & 100 cats is incorrect. These are the numbers of CARA's shelter animals, not the evacuees. We would love for people to adopt them as well as the evacuee pets. We are expecting more pets to come to the shelter, so please keep checking back with us. As for the delivering of these foster pets, there are only a few women & men that run the shelter. We don't have enough people nor vehicles for transporting. We are sorry for the confusion and hope this will help clear some of it up. _________________ Sharon L. Pritchard Office Manager/Web Designer Community Animal Rescue & Adoption 960 N. Flag Chapel Rd. Jackson, MS 601-922-7575" I'm sure many other people have been trying as I have to contact Lynda so I wanted to pass along this new information.
So sorry everyone!!! JackieMaya
I looked at the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) Disaster Relief website which details their rescuing of pets left behind after Katrina. I didn't see anything about any animals having to be euthanized to make more room. They've set up several large-scale animal shelters to accommodate the animals, and have set up identification sites for evacuees to be able to identify their pets. Here's the link: http://www.hsus.org/

Like I said b4 maybe it's just certain shelters. I'll email ASPCA.

JackieMaya
Cinco, it could very well be certain shelters that maybe the HSUS isn't involved with. If it's true, I sure hope they find homes for all the furbabies!

courtnek
Noah's wish is there, along with HSUS and ASPCA. they are working with the Red Cross to try to find as many animals as possible, and eventually link them back up with their owners. they have pledged to not euthanize ANY of them unless they are too ill or too dangerous to survive.
