Does anyone know of a good place to find a APBT puppy

Recommended Posts

I am looking for an APBT puppy and I dont want to support bad breeders. I am looking to spend anywhere up to $600. I would prefer a Fawn so that the hair wont show up on everything and I also prefer a longer legged APBT not a stubby one. I live in Texas and I am willing to travel pretty far.

I don't think theres anything wrong with supporting a good breeder. I'm looking for a good APBT breeder myself. Two breeders I like are RokiReds and Matrix Kennels. They have gorgeous dogs and both health test.

I did come accross a good breeder located in Texas the other day, let me see if I can find them again.

K I dont understand why you seem so upset about my asking for a good breeder. I have already check with the rescuses in Texas and they have very few APBT. Not to mention most of the rescues I have spoken with will not let someone who is renting a duplex adopt. They say that they are worried that when it is time to move you will not be able to take the animal with you especially this breed because of its misconceptions.

Thank you LC for that information. I will look into those breeders. If anyone knows of a rescue in Texas that I might have over looked that will let someone renting adopt a APBT please let me know. I would much rather rescue a APBT.

I agree! I'm in love! Thats one pretty puppy!

Oh I'd like to add, I fully support rescue. The only reason I'm buying from a breeder is because I plan to show/work the dog. If you only want a companion, I suggest a rescue.

Look at those gorgeous fawn puppies!

Rescues can often be ridiculously picky about potential adopters. I can imagine that you are having a hard time getting through to a rescue when you don't own your own house. My best advice is to keep looking at rescues until you find one that will listen to you even though you don't own.

You can also look at shelters. Usually shelters (at least in my area) are way less selective about who can adopt their dogs. You may have to visit a lot of them for a couple months to find what you're looking for, but I guarantee you will find a fawn pitbull puppy. You can probably find one quicker than waiting for a puppy from a breeder.

I hate to say it, but you may have just as much trouble buying a dog from a responsible breeder as you would from a rescue. A lot of breeders won't sell a dog to someone who doesn't own their own home either. :(

If you're getting rejections from rescues or breeders, I would get personal with them. Keep talking and tell them how committed you are to this dog. Tell them you understand why they have that rule and convince them that you're the one person they should break it for. Provide them with TONS of documentation from your landlord saying you can have this dog. Maybe even offer to have your landlord come visit the dog??

The decision to adopt to you generally comes down to one person so it's not like you're up against a corporation here. Get them to like and trust you. :)

If you have a hard time with rescues, you'll probably have a hard time finding a reputable breeder who will sell you a puppy. I know that Scot of Matrix won't sell a puppy to anyone under 21 years of age, and he also discriminates based on home ownership and career, he has his pup's future on mind when he chooses a home. I know Kim of Roki also discriminates based on age, occupation, and living situation.

I believe you commented on my dog, he's a rescue dog. I adopted him from a rescue I volunteer with. Maybe if you do some volunteer work with a rescue and show them that you're dedicated and responsible, they'll be less likely to base their decision on just what your application says. Good luck with finding a pup.

I'll bet if you go to your local SPAC or shelter (if they adopt APBT out) you'll fall in love with one of them.

So what happens when you get different colored furniture/clothes? Dog hair shows up on everything, regardless of color.

you said you were willing to travel pretty far...you could try this:

with the ban in canada, there are hundreds of dogs that need new homes. literally, hundreds. you can find links to sites that are dedicated just to rehoming canadian BSL victims. try getting ahold of one of those shelters, or possibly even an individual owner. talk to them.

if you are willing to spend $600, you could easily get a dog, possibly even with papers, from someone in Canada. you can have the dog shipped for less than $300, or you can split the drive with the current owner.

Just some more thought.

The BSL in Canada does not preclude people from keeping their current dogs. The have to have them muzzled in public, carry extra liability insurance and get them desexed. The loving responsible, owners will not likely ship their pets off unless they feel that their dogs would be very adversly affected by muzzling. The people getting rid of their pits because of this law are often (but not always) doing it because they can't be bothered or because they can't afford it.

This being said - getting someone to drive halfway to Texas from Ontario with a pit they no longer want might be tricky.
However contacting the rescue groups up here who are absolutely swamped trying to work on this issue might work well.

Aww...I love Reggie's lips! What a handsome guy :iloveyou:

I would suggest a shelter as well. There are so many pit bulls in shelters here in California it's insane. I'm not familiar with the situation in Texas, but I did find this sweet guy on Pet Harbor:

www.petharbor.com and do a search for ID # A018982, Cooper - he's in Texas.

Hope you find a very special dog :)

I appreciate all of you replying. :D I am going to try the shelters in Texas first. They will allow me to adopt as long as my landlord tells them that he does not mind. I will wait as long as I need even though I would like one now!! As far as the color, that reason that I would prefer fawn is that I just bought new furniture that is about the same tone as fawn and it wouldn

You said you're willing to travel so I listed all the fawn dogs in Texas that are listed on Pit Bull Rescue Central, of course that doesn't mean you can't just go to the shelter and fall in love.

May i suggest, contacting my good friends at Spindletop Rescue!

Leah tries hard to match up people with the right dogs for them, she's been making the refuge her life for about 17 years and has only the breed's best interest in heart.

http://www.spindletoppitbullrefuge.org/faq.html This page explains how to adopt a dog at Spindletop.

i'm not sure where you are, but they are in Houston.

Good luck!
