KP
This theory irritates me. Sorry... I don't believe it. :-? I have yet to hear a logical explanation...or even proof for that matter. What do you think?
ObedienceGrrl
If a dog's mouth is so clean, then why do dog bites get infected? I wish I knew where it started as well. EVERYTHING has bacteria in it's mouth!
kendalyn
If you're talking about total amount of bacteria in a dog's mouth versus a human's mouth, than I'd say neither is cleaner. But I'd rather be bitten by a dog than a human. A lot of the stuff dogs carry around isn't zoonotic bacteria, so it's pretty harmless to us. It can only effect other dogs or other animals. If you're bitten by a person, you are susceptible to whatever they happen to be carrying. My guess is that is where this myth came about. People noticed that if you got bitten by a person, the bite was much more likely to become infected then if a dog bit you. So they assumed that dogs had cleaner mouths. Seijun
Whoever came up with the idea that dogs' mouths are cleaner should come meet my dog, that'd make them rethink it BIG TIME. ~Seij
