Pleeaase someone help me here.

A long time ago, I read a short story about a Bull Terrier named, I think, "The Kid." It's a rather far fetched story about a fighting dog who turns into a show champion, but I really liked it. Some time ago, I came upon an old movie that I realized was the same story, because the narration (it's told from the dog's POV) was along the same lines, and the story was pretty similar. The dog's name there was "Wildfire."

My question is... what was the name of the story (not movie), and who wrote it?

If anyone knows, you will make me a very happy person :)

 I am so dumb. The story is "The Bar Sinister" by Richard Harding Davis. It was pretty easy to find that out, and I realized I'd already found that out a few months ago when I was trying to remember it (once in a while it becomes an obsession).

What my REAL problem is, I've remembered, is I don't know what book I found that story in.

So if anyone HAS a book of dog stories with that story, please let me know the title of it. Please. Thank you.

The movie goes by both "The Bar Sinister" and "It's a Dog's Life."

The only dog book I've discovered that has the story in it is called "The Fireside Book of Dog Stories," so I'm thinking about getting a copy of that through eBay. It's from 1943, so I'm hoping to find one in nice condition :)

Rowie, if you liked the movie, I bet you'd love the story. It's a beautiful story, one of my favorite dog stories ever.
