"Only" two more weeks

I can't stand it!! I have to wait untill the 20th untill I can get Bella. I got pics of her yesterday and she is SO ADORABLE! Her nose has turned from white with black spots to black with white spots and now it's totally black. Half of her face is still white and she's got theese adorable chocolate eyes! And the tip of her black tail is still white! I have to wait TWO weeks!!! Aargh!
I'm going to do this kind of "puppy box" of wood on the side of my bed so that at night when I can't check on her, she doesn't go and do her pee-pee everywhere. I'll have her little bed there and the rest of the floorspace will be for news papers (easy to clean up). What do you think? It will be like a box, but without a top or a bottom. Just walls.
And it will be a place for her only for the night or if there are a few minutes that I can't watch her. (the idea is to teach her to become house broken sooner)
I can't wait to get her home!

Does any of you have an idea of how to let Ben and Bella get aquainted? Ben has always been the only dog in the family and here comes another dog. I know he will be angry at the pup for a while and I'm afraid that he'll start to fight her (wich she will have no chanse to win).
My mom is more important to him then me (he even sleeps with her). See she does all the good things and I do all the bad things (like wash him, empty his anal glands etc.). So offcourse he goes to her whenever he can. So he has decided that mom can not touch any other dog besides him. He starts to bark and growl at the other dog if mom does that. It is not acceptable with me, but mom can't really say "NO" to him in thoose situations. She doesn't know what to do.
Ben has always from the time he was a pup seen me going to strange dogs and giving them a good rub behind the ear etc. So there is no problem if I touch a dog, but mom and dad... he's never seen them go to another dog and make that dog's tail wag.
So I'm a tiny bit worried. I know for a fact that when he realizes that Bella isn't the enemy, he will calm down and try and become her friend.
So does anyone have any idea of how to make Ben comfortable with Bella sooner?
Thanks.

I have limited experience with introducing two dogs to living with each other. The experience I had (with bk and rinny) went really well. They knew each other beforehand and had spent almost 2 years hanging out with each other until living together. So the eventual move went swimmingly, though the tussle for alpha went on for some time.
There is a fantastic dobermann site somewhere, i will post the address if I can find it.

Hi there,

The puppy is new to your household and therefore you must make sure that Ben knows his place and knows that the puppy doesn't pose a threat to the social hierarchy that he is confident and familiar with.

Put the puppy into a puppy pen or a cage that is open at all sides( fold down cages are super). Place the puppy in the room and then let Ben come in. Don't say anything at all, just watch the responses. If Ben is sniffing the puppy happily and not growling but is alert then reward him with a tidbit, then take him outside to another room or your garden. Wait a few minutes then let him back in again. He will probably be quite eager to get back into the house again and curious as to what this strange little puppy is all about. This time encourage Ben and talk to him positively if he is being calm and alert with the pup, but refrain from using words like good boy just yet.

Again take him out of the room and wait a few minutes then bring him back in and start stroking Ben (kneel down to the dogs level). Stroke him big long strokes along his body starting at his head and ending at his tail. Do this a few times then while you do this start talking to the new pup. Start alternating stroking Ben and talking to the pup so you aren't doing both actions at once and only 1 dog wil be receiving attention at one time.

If you are confident that Ben is happy, then remove the puppy from his cage and hold him facing Ben in between your knees still kneeling on the floor. Talk to both dogs and stroke them alternatively. Let Ben sniff the puppy and eventually release the pup watching both dogs but only intervening if it gets rough.

This is the best way I find to keep the peace, instead of just throwing them all in together and leaving it to pack order.

Best of luck with the new fur pup

Hi there,

If he starts to growl or bark the important thing to do is not to have a shouting match with him as this actually reinforces the bad behaviour and rewards him for the bad behaviour. Clip his lead on and flick the lead slightly, and twist him around but don't say anything. When he is quiet then reward him and take him back to the puppy. Easiest rule when understanding dog behaviour: Reward the god behaviour and ignore the bad. Voice/tidbt does the good wok and lead serves to correct or avert the bad behaviour like barking.

If he incessantly growls or barks then go right back to the start with introductions. Dogs love familiarity and routine and when a new baby enters his world, it can greatly upset him, so he needs to be reassured and reminded where his place is in the household but also he must know that this new pup is here to stay and that he will only get rewards if he is pleasant to the puppy.

Let's try it this way then:

NOW it should work, by clicking on the URL.

I just recently went through this. We took Mary with us to pick up Stewie. They met on his (actually his mommies) turf. Mary played with his mom and all his littermates. Then when we left, he just happened to come with us. She loves other dogs so she was ecstatic. I think that is probably the best way to do it, but if that is not possible then the info provided by others should work too.
That's a cute little pup.....what kind of dog is it? and why is he partly shaven? Just wondering....he's a little cutie though and looks like he'll be tons of fun to play with.
Hope you don't mind me answering crested. :D

But that is a crested dog. They are not shaved, they look like that. :D
But not all are born so special and have that balled look.
Bella is the only one out of her litter to look like that.
What a special pup.

She is such a cuttie crested.
She is going to be a beauty when she grows up. :D

Angelboddy: No, I don't mind at all! Thank you!
Oh, and there are diffirent hairless varities allso. Hairy hairlesses look like powder puffs, but get shaved. EXTREMELY hairy hairlesses are sometimes not even detected, so some breeders even think they're powder puffs. And then there are so called "medium hairlesses" (like Bella) and true hairlesses (like Ben). ;)

Do you know that she allready has nick names like: Bellushka, Bee-bop, Boo-Boo, Bootilishious etc. etc.? :D AND SHE'S NOT EVEN HERE YET!!!

What do you think about the "puppy pen" or what to call it? I would place it beside my bed (offcourse) and then old newspapers on the bottom and her little sleeping box in it. This way, she wouldn't be able to get up at night, walk through the house and in the morning, when I'm walking in the house barefoot and still a bit groggy I find a nice "surprise" when my foot splashes into a little water "pond".
She would be able to get up and do her buissness, but inside the pen. I would make it big enough for her to walk about a little in it too offcourse!
I would make it like 1 meter x 1 meter or so. For a little puppy, that's HUUUGE!!
And with time, I will take the pen out and it would just be her little boxy beside my bed.
What do you think?
