Jake is about 75 lbs and looks like a black wolf. Very friendly with people and othe dogs. He and our Black Lab (both males) are inseperable.

Your input on type of breed or mix is needed.

Jake looks fantastic. I'm no specialist about this, but... He looks like he has atleast lab in him and by the look of his face and ears I would allso guess border collie. I might be really wrong, but thoose are the two breeds that pop into my mind. :)

Thanks all. The responses on Jake's possible mix here on Dogomania have been consistent with others on various web sites. Another reason to love the Internet and the folks using it.

Crested: I can't see the pics in your post, just red x's. Let me know if there's another link to them.

Carolk9s: Jake was a stray who showed up one early morning 2 weeks ago at a neighbor's house found playing with their Yellow Lab (SF Bay Area). He brought the dog over to me because he knew we where looking for a 2nd dog, a playmate for our Black Lab, Max. Jake showed no sign of ever wearing a collar, was in excellent heath, and friendly to people and other dogs. He was exactly what we were looking for in a 2nd dog. He and Max hit it off immediately, as they are now practically inseperable. They play 4-6 hrs a day. Max has never been happier, even though Jake is clearly the Alpha male.

We will be bringing Jake in to the vet this week for shots and probable neutering.

As for the possible breed mix, all 25-30 responses say a Lab mix, most likely Husky, Aussie, or Border Collie (or multiple combination).

Huskeys and Border Collies are two breeds they are most likely to have blue eyes, so I'd say Lab crossed with either of them. The best way to tell if he's more likely part husky or border collie is by looking at his temperament, both breeds have very different temprements.

:D

I would have to say Lab/BC. He has that happy go lucky expression that the BC has, along with the blue eye and the rose ears.

Test him and see if he has any interest in herding, he should still have some herding instinct if it's BC mixed in with Lab.

The dog has no Border Collie in him...unless he shows signs of herding instinct.. (nipping, giving the "eye", highly energetic and intelligent, etc..) I have a Border and have been around a lot of Borders for a long time, and I see absolutely no Border Collie in him.. I don't really see any Husky either.. Just cuz the dog has a blue eye doesn't make him a certain breed.

My guess would be...
Hmm...I ALMOST see some possible Rottie in his face structure.. maybe... It's really hard to tell so I'm not really sure what I see... :-? He could be a black GSD mix... I don't see too much Lab, but it's also a possibility... This is a tough one. :P He's a cute dog!! I love his eyes and ears! :D

Well I think majority rules on him being part Lab ! :D I definitely see Lab, I'm not so sure about what else he is, I'm thinking Border Collie too.
And just because a dog is a mix, doesn't mean it's going to show strong tendencies toward both breeds.
My Gretchen is a Rott/Lab and she is pure black, she's taller and heavier than a purebred Lab but she has subtle nuances of the Rottweiler..... so subtle you'd really have to be looking for it. She's a lovely dog either way.
And so is Jake !!

I don't think that the eye color relates to the breed, but I'm not sure. Here's a article (don't have time to read it all right now).

[quote]Terrile Schukraft, a Siberian Huskey breeder who is active in Siberian rescue, would like to add: All blue-eyed dogs do not necessarily have Siberian husky blood in them, although many veterinarians and shelter personnel will identify blue-eyed mixed breeds as Siberian crosses. There are several other breeds that may have blue or split eyes - Dalmatians, collies, Shetland sheepdogs, harlequin Great Danes, Australian shepherds and Australian cattle dogs are examples that come to mind.
