Horsefeathers!
My beloved old Yorkie is gone. Goober was an old rescue dog that nobody wanted, so we brought him home with the intention of making him as comfortable as possible for as long as was feasible. During the year he was with us, he did remarkably well and was lively and happy and somewhat agile (for an old man). He had been sick and started having seizures recently. For about a week, or so, he was on different meds and he did so much better, but quickly took a turn for the worst. Last night, he had a major seizure from which he never really recovered. A frantic call to the vet at midnight left us with the decision that it was time to send Goober on. We gave him all the phenobarb we had last night in hopes that he would just pass quietly and comfortably in his sleep here at home, but, Goober being Goober, he clung on for just a bit longer. The vet met us at the clinic early this morning and we sent Goober on his way. It was time. We are going to miss this baby so much. He made such a huge impact in our lives during the short year that he was with us with his will to not only survive, but to thrive, and that he did even in the face of such adversity (he was deaf, almost blind, had no jaw, no teeth, but his mind was good and his soul was beautiful). He outlived everyone's expectations, but it is still hard losing such a little trooper. We miss you, baby. Sleep well. Smooshie
So sorry to hear about Goober's passing :( . It is surely a comfort to you knowing you made the last year of his life a happy and love filled one ! Fragile Circle... "We who choose to surround ourselves with lives even more temporary than our own, live within a fragile circle, easily and often breached. Unable to accept its awful gaps, we still would live no other way. We cherish memory as the only certain immortality, never fully understanding the necessary plan." Irving Townsend. bk_blue
I'm so sorry to hear that. Goober has gone where all dogs will go and very few humans... He was very lucky to have you in his life, as you were in his, for that time- and there aren't too many people who would take on an old, ailing dog to make his last years a luxury. :)
shorty
So sorry to hear about your loss. It is wonderful that you made Goobers last year a special one. He is peaceful and happy now. Guest Anonymous
"An old rescue no one wanted", such sad words. Thank you for changing the last sentence in Goober's life. He was wanted and loved until the end. Rest in peace sweet Yorkie.
Guest Anonymous
Goober. you are now at the Rainbow Bridge - free of pain and young again, running and healthy with all of our dogs and cats who have predeceased us. RUN FREE! I'm so sorry to hear of Goober's passing, but I know that last year of his life meant so much to him. There's a special place in my heart for those who adopt these seniors, and those who have passed them by as "just too old" have really missed out on some special guys and girls even if their time with us is much too short. Thank you for loving him.
Guest Anonymous
o its soo hard to lose a dear friend!! dont worry!!! he died peacefully in a good home not in a pound, and at least he had a family that loved him till his last breath!!  dont dwell on the fact he has peacefully and painlessly passed away, just remember him when he was a healthy dog and remember all the good times u had wit him and all the laughs u had wit him!!! hes not gone, but he will still remain engraved in ur heart and mind! :) u should feel good for urself that u adopted an old dog who had many health problems when other people usaully want a roly poly pup! the important thing is he died comfortable and peacefully, painlessly and he passed away wit the thought that u loved him and u would miss him!
