1. Hello. Our family just adopted a mixed breed puppy from our local Animal Control. She was listed as an 8 week old Labrador Mix. She was listed in poor health (she was malnourished weighing in at 7 lbs), had 3 types of worms and kennel cough. We nursed her through it over a 2 week period (she never showed any signs of being sick) and she came through great! She is currently 12 weeks old and in perfect health. She is worm and parasite free and loving life! As she got older by the week, it looked like she may have some pit bull in her face, so to satisfy our curiosity we went to the local pet superstore and purchased a DNA test for $50. Here is what her generation feedback came in as... Funny how she has no Labrador or Pit Bull (I guess that Animal Control needs a pedigree lesson). 20 – 36 % Boston Terrier 20 – 36 % Pembroke Welsh Corgi 20 – 36 % Yorkshire Terrier (Yorkie) 10 – 19 % Newfoundland For those of you who don't know how the break down occurs... The first 3 types make up 60 – 90% combined of her DNA and the last type makes up 10 – 19%. We can see some parts from each in her (her coat, ears and coloring are similar to the Boston Terrier, and her body size, webbed feed and love of swimming explain the Newfoundland), but still there are parts that we don’t see (like the Corgi or Yorkie which make up at least 40% of her DNA). She was fixed at the shelter the day prior to us picking her up. The last thing we would need is for her to have a litter and add another mix to her melting pot of breeds. Although she is a beautiful dog, I don't believe it would be in the best interest of the litter's health for her to breed. So here is my question... What will she be like? She already is at least as large as her top 3 mixes (at least 81% of her DNA) and has a lot of extra skin to grow into (maybe just the body size and love of water explain the Newfoundland). She is super friendly and great with kids and other dogs (except for one boxer puppy her same age who she is more aggressive with, but not full on fighting with). Besides puppy biting/teething she only licks and plays. She is 90% house broken already and is very smart. I guess there is no way to know how she will turn out as I have not found any of these mixes online. Anyone have a similar pet? I have attached 2 photos. The first Black and White photo was from her kennel card when we adopted her. The second color photo is of her a week and a half ago. Now she is taller than last weeks photo. What do you all think?
