  2. My boyfriend can try and try to get Smoke's attention but he rarely ever pays any attention to him. Not that he really like dogs though. I just don't think Smokie likes him.
Smokie really only likes me, my mom, dad, and brother, and a few various visitors that will play with him... He's pretty mellow.. once my aunt came over and nobody was home, Smoke ran out to see who it was, and then he went back to the bedroom put his head on the pillow and went back to sleep lol.
What about your dogs? Do they like everyone, or just not like certain people?

  3. Are you comfortable around all dogs?

I volunteered here at the animal shelter (I want to start doing it regularly but I have no transportation, while it's open), a while back.

I just took the dogs for walks along the road and animal shelter, and outside to play, but I only took the ones out that I felt comfortable with. I must admit, most were labs or labmixes. I should add that's what the shelter mostly had too.

There was this little dog that I felt completely uncomfortable with, and I'm talking like 20 lbs.. His name was Tommy..he'd been in the shelter 3 times, supposedely he gets protective and had to be muzzled on walks. Anyways the shelter worker, asked if he growled at me and if I minded taking him out for a walk? I said ofcourse not but I was kind of uneasy about it. Anyways he was really sweet, to me and my boyfrined (he's afraid of dogs completely but getting over it)...But I was just wondering to those of you that volunteer at shelters, are there just some dogs you're not really comfortable with?

  4. I am sort of familar with them. I know that the MOD does do cruel animal testing and I have went to their site marchofcrimes.com before. But no, I didn't really do any background research on them. That's terrible that they do crap like that! I just saw Pamela Anderson did a fundraiser for them on Ellen. I did see a site on iams cruelity or whatever. But I kind of like Iams, I see them sponsering a lot of stuff, and no other company doing that.. I know nothing of the actual company though. No no, I don't fully support any organizations other then local animal shelters.

  5. Mei-Mei

Actually, I called my brother and he was planning on getting him the same thing for xmas. His girlfriends mom is really into dogs, and got her dogs nice beds online. So we decided to each go in half and get Smokie a nice bed for xmas!

    Thanks so much guys!

  6. I live out in no where, in most places in the Upper Pennisula of MI we are lucky to have a walmart, lol-- super at that! Maybe I will try them online, at their websites.

Thanks everyone, I'm considering making it but now I'm thinking I'd like to take the easy way out, lol.

  7. I don't have anything positive to relate about sizes,

But on tv they had a mastiff type dog that was nearly 300 lbs, and ate 30 lbs of food a day. It was on the local news, the anchorman was like, I think he's actually a horse. Obviously this isn't normal though.

  8. Does your dog have one? Where did you get them?

Since me and my brother (he just left) have grown up and moved away from home, Smokie likes to sleep in my parents room but they don't have a dog bed (he slept in our beds before). I'd like to get him one for xmas. I'm not sure I like the ones they have here at walmart, I think it'd be just as easy to make one(I'm into sewing), but I'm not sure.

I'd like to get him the rounded ones with the mat and not the big pillow types.
He's aroung 60-65 lbs, any ideas where to get them? They are way to small for him the ones at walmart.

  9. I agree with whoever said just say no. But I'd gradually stop as much, incase they are going to the bathroom a lot.

Luckily Smokie goes to the door if he wants out, if he wants out REAL badly then he jumps at the door. When he's ready to come in, he jumps at the back window lol. He hates it out there in the winter lol.

I do have one problem though, if he has to pee real quick he won't go - unless I shut the door and wait outside with him.. lol.

A doggie door would be so nice though. I hope to have one, in the future.

  10. I think it just gets better as they get older. Smoke use to be like that. He's 10 now, still playful but not as fast, and let me tell you. It was hard for the first few years. But now it goes soo smoothly. He can just pick up when to stop now... If he does try to get out of range, I just hold the leash a little closer and tell him no calmly and to slow down. I usually do let him pe in the ditches though, if he wants lol.

  11. Yeah 300, just seemed really steep to me. I guess it's in IL oops, i thought it was lower MI.

They have a really nice website up. I don't think I'd pay 300$ either. But they do have some beautiful dogs there. Ohh it's 300 for each dog. 150 for a cat.
