1. How many hours till Saturday, DAL? BTW....I loved your list of supplies you got. Very nice. I'm assuming you have lots of brushes and combs because of the two different coats you already have at home! The leather bomber is the best....I love them!
2. Well....got an email from his foster mom. Said that someone will contact us about our references and home visit. She also finished the email with "He's getting his teeth cleaned on the 12th so there is plenty of time." I must have sounded frantic when I emailed her!! And also emailed the rescue cooridinator for our region....hmmm....must remain calm. If it is meant to be, then it is meant to be, right??
3. Ewww....was that a noodle I just saw fly by? :shocked!:
4. Oh good....in this instance, obnoxious is a good thing.....
5. I'm so sorry, sweetie. My Scooter will be waiting for her at the bridge.
6. HF Beasties is the correct word. Man....nasty little things, huh? But I love 'em. Horrible little child haters, though!!! My husband thinks my parent's (and mine when I lived there) Lhasa is a B*tch and a half. I just love Shasta to pieces!! This is the one that I showed in obedience. Are yours as dog aggressive as all of ours have been? Not a thing like their 'cousin' the Shih Tzu, huh?? I was walking out of Petsmart one day and a couple with a VERY happy Rottie walked in. I immediately picked Shasta up. They looked hurt and said, "He won't hurt her." I was just begining to explain that I was not afraid of their dog when Shasta started her nasty growl. They said, "Oh, but she'll hurt him, huh?" She made a St. Bernard roll over and pee on himself. It was very sad. Oh, and BTW....sorry....I get first dibs on Tater....
7. Court, We have used peroxide on our Lhasa's ears but not when they were 'bad' bad...... But it will change the color of the fur if used long enough! Remember....it bleaches things out!
8. The only reason I am for it is because Hunter and Dakota are VERY well behaved around small things. The cats rule our house and my parents Lhasa beats on them whenever she gets the chance. But hey....that's just a Lhasa for ya! Our kitten (6 months) eats out their food bowl with them. If they were wild dogs....then a big NO. But we are preparing to show in obedience....so they know their stuff!
9. Oh baileysmom.....I am so sorry to hear this. Make sure you bleach everything down where the puppies are. Keep it clean for the kids.
10. People think that they are agressive and unpredictable. Mean and nasty....untrainable. Right....untrainable. Is that why I am preparing to show him in competition obedience? Hmmmm......
11. PL, Thank you! I just love it when people say nasty stuff about white GSDs and I say.... "Well you know, Rin Tin Tin's mom was a white GSD." They just give me a blank stare. They are actucally brothers. Just a litter apart. The white is on the Dam's side. Hunter (black and tan) looks just like mom. With that soft face. And Dakota is built like his dad. BIG!
12. He's just sooooooo handsome. We've got email in motion....and an application submitted. So we are crossing our fingers!! Toes.... Eyes.... And ears (for Hunter....he has a 'lazy' ear)
13. Okay, guys....this is Tater. He's 7 or 8 and in need of a home. Gets along great with cats and dogs....LOVES people and children. Potty trained. Loves to curl up in your lap for hours....and MUST sleep in the 'people' bed. There was a death in his family and had to be given up due to finances..... Yes? No?? Jeremy says yes.....am I crazy to add one more? Even though he is only 12 pounds? But keep in mind....we have 2 dogs (120 and 110) and 3 cats..... But he's so handsome......*sigh*
14. Ours are affectionate towards us. That's it. When they meet someone, it will take them a long time to warm up to them. But they will not do 'happy dances' for them at all. You need to come over SEVERAL times before they will not LOUDLY announce that you are here. Only my parents have been able to have this happen. They love my parents. Dakota knows people turn their heads to look at him because he is just a big GSD. He's 120ish. Hunter is 110ish. He eats it up. Either of them could care less about other dogs. And Hunter herds the cats. 15. DAL, You get a third dog first, and let me know how it goes, k? We are thinking about a third addition. With the two boys (120 lbs and 115 lbs) we want to add a Chinese Crested. Like you, I want a tiny dog! I grew up with small dogs (lhasas) and I miss them! I love the Cresties....so why not?? So let me know how it goes....then I'll follow, k? :D *pushes DAL out in front*
16. So at least you see an ophthalmologist. Cuz that would be my next discussion with you!
17. And....you can actucally put super glue in the eye. BUT PLEASE DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME...... We had superglue where I used to work (at it was at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation) for big corneal flaps.
18. Court, First off....PLEASE don't get the over the counter allergy eye drops.... This is my job. I am an ophthalmic technician. Basically, I'm a nurse...but with eye doctors. And no, NOT optometrists...but Ophthalmologists (M.D.s). Those over the counter drops are HORRIBLE for you....so is Visine, Murine, and Clear Eyes. Promise me you won't get those..... Having said that....now that claritan is over the counter you can get that....but it will add up. If you have prescription coverage, I would check with your doctor and try out Zyrtec. Great pill. But....if Ford was rubbing along your face, she could have abraded your cornea. To have just ONE eye swell like that, it sounds more like a scratch. Both eyes would be affected if it was an allergy. Even if she was only rubbing by one eye....both would be bothered by the allergens. It's known as Sympathetic Ophthalmia. If the eye is still itchy and swollen, get some over the counter TEARS. Brands to try are: Refresh Genteal Bion Tears Systane Just NOTHING that says 'Gets the red out'. Bad....bad....bad.... K?
19. DAL You did such a good job on that! My husband is an IT professional and he thinks it was great!!! Do you do a lot with computers?
20. If she stops barking when you walk toward her, can you lead her away from whatever she is barking at? Then positive reward for coming with you? I'm assuming that she barks out the window. Mine do....or by a door. So if you get up, she stops, praise. Then take her with you where ever you go next. So if you are going back into the other room, call her to you and praise. Then get her attention to go elsewhere! Shouldn't be too hard with a tasty treat or a good toy. Maybe some of those can help.....
21. Hey DAL.... About the GL.....it didn't work with my GSDs. And I was told a very interesting reason as to why. Maybe with Cody it is the same reason.... Dogs with long muzles have more nerve endings on them. There for, the GL is uncomfortable on Collies, GSDs, and the like. But I did EVERYTHING right as to the introduction of the GL. I put it on the floor and they sniffed it, *treat*. They touched it, *treat*. And so on. So maybe that was Cody's issue with it too. Just a thought for you. And no....you are NOT a bad mommy! Bad mommies are mommies who don't feed their dogs. People who leave them tied up without food or shelter. People who abuse their dogs. No one who loves their dogs as much as most of us on the board (I can't say all, cuz you sometimes get some nasty Troll on here once in a while!) are not bad owners.
22. Court, My father still owes my mother into the 10s of thousands. And I'm 26. She and I shrugged it off. Now, trust me, I know not everyone can do that. So please, don't think I'm telling you to, k? Also to add (and we can see if DO agrees with me!!), our three cats do not get the leukemia. They still get rabies and just the regular vac. Our vet said if there are not any stray cats around, then don't worry about it. We moved into a brand new development. In May, we were the ONLY house there. No strays!! But who knows when the other 399 get built....Also, ours NEVER go outside. But I know what DO means, if they do come face to face by a screen, it's bad news.
23. Awwwwwwwwww What a wittlle schmooshie face..... Can you just nibble on his ears for me when you bring him home??
24. TDG, I thought good quality protien came from good quality foods. She was on Innova. So if she was getting poor quality protien, is that a bad food now? I was always told that was a good food to go with.
